Snake Alert

03 May

Yucca shootThere’s a snake in my yard! It’s getting bigger by the day. I think an invisible snake charmer is calling it out of my yucca plant.

Maybe it’s good that it’s coming out of the plant. At least I know where it is. That would be terrible if I happened to walk by that yucca plant, you know, getting ready to do my business or something – and that snake jumped out at me.

Did you jump when I said that? I’m getting scared just thinking about it.

The worst thing is that a second snake is starting to come out of that plant now. How many more snakes might be hiding in there? I hope that invisible snake charmer gets busy and calls all of them out.

In the meantime, I think my person is going to have to take me for extra walks on my trails instead of letting me out in the yard. I hardly ever see snakes on my trails.

Hey person, I don’t think you want to take a chance that that snake might get me. I don’t care if it’s dark. I think you’d better take me out on my trails right now.

Yikes! That is HUGE – would give me nightmares. Maybe you could put Scratchy on watch duty to keep an eye on that thing.

Diane, that’s a good idea. Scratchy – get out there now and keep an eye on those snakes. I don’t care if you’re not allowed outside. I won’t tell.

Penny, I’ve been steering clear of that thing. It’s not good to get near anyway. If you get too close it pokes you.

Cee, my person says the worst they will do is drop blossoms on me after they bloom. I’m not so sure.

Get you Super Dog mantle out, Bongo! Let no snake scare you! [having said that, I think you should be more cautious for snakes on your trails, than the ones in your yard. They look like they’re on a job protecting you and your people, so maybe you should consider being friends with them.]

Marina, I think you’re right – Super Dog and that snake could get along.

OMD! That snake looks very huge and scary! ( and it also looks like enormous asparagus to me! BOL!) Yucca plant? I’m not sure if we’ve seen yucca plant here …maybe we have them in Japan, too…speaking of snakes, we say that white snake is an incarnation of one of Japanese Gods in our myth. Do you have something like this story, Bongo? 🙂

Kevin, I didn’t think of it before, but that snake does look like a giant asparagus. When it finishes growing out it will have white blossoms all over it. In Christianity and Judaism the snake, or serpent, is the bad guy. He’s the one who talked Eve into eating the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden which got Adam and Eve kicked out of the Garden. That snake represents the devil.

Hmmm…I didn’t know that in Christianity and Judaism, the snake is the bad guy….always very interesting to know other religions! Thanks for telling me that, Bongo! 🙂

Bongo, that was scarry at first sight, but now I know who the snake is, I’m not so scarry anymore, and you shouldn’t been either, dear dog.
I googled this yucca because I wanted to see what kind of flowers would come out of the snake, and I did the most grand discovery: I have a yucca in my garden as well, but I never knew the plant’s name. It’s not as big as your snakes, but it has beautifull white bell-flowers. Well, looks like I have learnt today something from you, Bongo, thanks 🙂

Angels Whisper, I’m so glad I was able to teach you something. We have lots of yucca plants in our yard, and it looks like we’re going to have lots of flowers this year. I guess I get a new hat now – Teacher Dog.

Just the same height as the sunflower that collapsed on me when I was a lot younger, Bongo – lol. Now THAT was scary. You will love the flowers when they appear.

Susan, that would be something – having a sunflower collapse on you. At least this snake won’t get as big as a sunflower.

I had a snake in my yard once. I barked at it and it left and my person said she wasn’t sure if she was glad or not. She told me it wasn’t poisonous and it would eat rodents, so maybe we should have kept it, but she squeals and runs when she sees snakes, so it’s probably a good thing I scared it off. You’d better keep an eye on your snakes to make sure they don’t take over.

Lola, that was good of you to scare that snake away for your person. I don’t think the snakes will take over my yard. We have lots of them coming out of yucca plants but my younger person likes to chop them down with a machete. The kind of snakes that move don’t very often come in my yard.

WOW. That yucca looks like it’s going to take over the house! Do you think the wind frightens it? It looks fierce.

Karen, I don’t think that yucca is scared of anything – except maybe my younger person’s machete. He likes to cut off the yucca snakes with it.
