Where there’s Smoke…

22 May

Bongo in his kennel chewing on his frogHey, how come I don’t get to go?

That’s not fair.

That big camera always wins out over me.

It’s not like I’m gonna break your camera or anything.

I won’t yank on the leash and pull you over on top of the camera.

Besides, if you fell on your camera wouldn’t it be your fault?

So what are you taking pictures of?

Smoke?

That’s not very interesting.

You should be taking pictures of me.

There’s a fire?

Where?

You can’t leave me in dog jail if there’s a fire.

What if I get stuck in here and I can’t get out?

Those cats would leave the house without me.

You know how they are.

Are you sure it’s not that close?

.

Okay, I’ll look at the pictures.

Coffeepot Rock with smoke in the distance

Yeah, I guess it is far away.

But what if it comes closer?

Smoke from fire in the distance

See, I told you this was gonna come closer.

Let me out of this dog jail and grab onto my leash!

I’ll protect you.

Oh, and leave your big camera at home.

***

P.S. My person says we are safe from this fire, but asks for prayer for the people who have been evacuated from their homes, and for all the firefighters who are fighting this fire. This is the Slide Fire in Oak Creek Canyon in Arizona between Sedona and Flagstaff.

Of course I will say prayers for the folk who are losing their homes and for the firefighters.
    Please stay safe

Thanks Patrecia. The fires last year were further away, but the smoke came over here. There was a hot shot fire crew lost in one of the fires last year, so everybody here is especially concerned for the firefighters.

Trust your person, B. She’ll keep you safe. Mom and I always say prayers for the people faced with fires. Scary.

Thanks Cupcake. We’re not in any danger from this fire – except for all the smoke we’re getting – but there are a lot of firefighters fighting that fire and people living in its path so your prayers are appreciated.

As long as the people are evacuated I’m sure they’ll be OK, and the fire-fighters will also be there putting the fire out. Yes, trust your person Bongo, the fire may be far away but I’d still stay at home.

Epicaldragon, the smoke was really bad last night and this morning – even in our house – but it wasn’t so bad this afternoon so my person did take me for a walk on my trails. She says my trails are safe.

Lily & Edward, smoke actually drifted all the way over here from the San Diego fires. We’re hoping the fire here burns out soon too. This could be a bad year for fires since it’s been so dry.

Thank you Kevin. So far the firefighters have done a good job of protecting all the structures. None have been lost and no one has been injured, but with the dryness and the rugged terrain they expect it to get much bigger before they can contain it. The smoke is really thick at my house today.

My son Justin is in Flagstaff. He called me last night he said he is ok but if they tell him to get out he is.

Capacina, the firefighters are working very hard to keep the residential areas safe. Praying that they are successful, but it sounds like they will be.

Thanks Collies. So far there have been no injuries and the only property lost is a fence post. Now if we can only get rid of the smoke.
