Blooming Yucca

Bongo looking at a yucca plantFor some reason there seem to be a lot of yucca plants blooming on my trails this year.

Usually I’m lucky to see one of two of them.

But this year they’re blooming all over the place.

.

.

.

.

.

Look, here’s another one.

Yucca plant beginning to bloom

This one’s just starting out.

But here’s one that’s halfway there.

Yucca plant in partial bloom

And of course my person has to stop and take pictures of all of them.

I think I need to hide her camera.

Here she goes. Stopping again.

But sometimes there are advantages to having my person stop at all the blooming yucca plants.

Sometimes they come with good messages.

But then again, maybe it’s not so good having my person always taking pictures.

Does my butt look big in this picture?

Earth Day at the Computer

Bongo's faceWhat an excuse!

My person has been sitting at the computer all day.

I mean it. All day!

And she says she doesn’t have time to type up my blog post.

So you know what she’s doing?

She says it’s Earth Day today so she’s making me post pictures of flowers on my trails.

Those flowers that she’s always making me sit around for while she takes pictures of them.

I’m surprised we have any flowers since we’ve hardly had any rain in months.

Maybe I should stop watering them.

Happy Earth Day everybody!

Stump with a Heart

Tall stump with a red rock shaped like a heart on itI pass this stump almost every day when I go walking on my trails, but there’s something different about it today.

This stump has a heart.

It never had a heart before.

Not until today.

I wonder if this stump went to the Land of Oz and got its heart.

You know, like the tin man who wanted a heart.

So he went and talked to the wizard.

That tin man had to do a lot of hard things to find out that he really did have a heart.

I wonder what this stump had to do.

Maybe build a few rock piles – or knock some down.

Or chase away the aliens when they try to invade my trails.

Or it might have stood guard against those nasty javelina when they tried to eat the prickly pear cactus.

Whatever that stump did, it worked.

And I think I’ll hang around it for awhile because…

Bongo next to the stump with the heart

This stump has heart.

Rock Pile Wars

Bongo looking at new rock piles on the trailThey’re at it again.

More rock piles on my trails.

Right near the part of my trail that everybody passes by.

They should leave the rock piles on the part of my trails where hardly anybody goes.

Those rock piles keep multiplying.

But here there are rock pile wars.

Somebody puts them up – somebody takes them down.

Rock piles don’t last long here.

.

But it looks like someone worked hard to make sure these rock piles stay.

That one pile has a double column of rocks.

Bongo checking out the rock piles

I’m getting a bad feeling about these rocks.

I rarely growl, but these rocks deserve one.

Just a low, quiet growl – enough to put those rocks in their place.

Bongo slinking away from the rock piles

And now I’m outta here.

Carefully, so those rock piles don’t get suspicious.

***

Guess what!

I went by that spot again the next day and the rock piles were gone.

Up again – down again.

Rock pile wars.

Gone with the Century

Bongo and a fallen down century plantHmmm. What’s this?

It looks like it’s from another century.

Last year’s century.

I know last year was only a year, but it had centuries in it too.

How do I know?

Because here’s one of them right here.

.

.

Bongo looking at the fallen down century plant

This century plant grew up right next to my trail last year.

And now it’s gone. Splat!

Bongo walking away from the century plant

I guess that’s the end of the centuries on my trails.

I’ll have to take it year by year now.

One of these big things only shows up once in a hundred years.

I don’t think I’ll be around for the next one.

***

Hey, what’s this smell?

Bongo sniffing near a new century plant

It smells like that century plant.

Bongo walking away from the century plant

Naw. There’s not a chance in a hundred that another century plant would show up on my trails.

Probably a good thing.

My person takes too many pictures of them.

Decorating the Cactus

Prickly pear cactus with gum on itLook at this!

Somebody’s decorating the cactus on my trails.

And it isn’t even Christmas.

Oh, I know.

It’s almost Easter and this is kind of an Eastery color.

It must be an Easter decoration.

I saw a bunny today. Maybe it was the Easter Bunny coming to decorate.

But wait.

Is this really an Easter decoration?

Gum on prickly pear cactus

This looks like it might be a balloon.

A balloon that had the bad luck of landing on these pricklers and popping.

Maybe I should investigate this and find out what’s really going on.

Bongo looking like he wants something done about the rocks across the trail

Hey person, can you go get my Detective Dog hat for me?

I’ve got an important investigation and I don’t have time to get it myself.

What do you mean, I don’t need my Detective Dog hat?

What clue?

You’ve got a clue for me?

Three sticks of gum

What kind of a clue is that?

If you won’t get my Detective Dog hat for me I guess I’m going to have to get it myself.

I’ve got some serious investigating to do.

And I don’t think I’m going to ask my person to help.

What to do with Flowers

White FlowerI don’t believe it!

My person made me go on a different path today because she saw some flowers on it.

We don’t need any extra flowers.

It’s bad enough stopping for flowers on my regular trails.

Now I’ve got to stop while she takes pictures of strange trail flowers.

Alien flowers.

That’s what they are.

Popping up in unusual places and forcing my person to take pictures of them.

.

I’m going to have to do something about this.

Bongo and a white flower

I’ll get you my pretties!

Yeah, you’re about the right size for my feet.

Bongo almost stepping on the flower

This flower was made to be trampled.

And don’t you even think about popping up out of the ground again.

Find a Rainbow Day

Bongo on the kitchen floorToday is Find a Rainbow Day.

That means I’d better go find a rainbow.

We did have a rare occurrence last night.

Rain.

So there must be a rainbow out there somewhere.

I didn’t think that a rainbow would be hiding in my house, so I took my person out for a walk.

It was a struggle getting her away from the computer, but I finally convinced her we had to go.

There were things to do and rainbows to see.

So I sniffed a few bushes to see if I could catch the rainbow scent.

.

.

Bongo Sniffing Bushes

Nothing there.

I checked behind a bush.

Bongo sniffing behind a sunlit bush

Still no luck.

Maybe there’s a rainbow hanging out with the flowers.

That seems like a logical place for a rainbow to be.

Bongo eating weeds under the bush of white flowers

I don’t know where these rainbows hide themselves.

I’m having no luck finding one.

Bongo sniffing below a sunlit tree

No rainbows around the trees either.

How can I celebrate Find a Rainbow Day if I can’t find one?

I finally gave up and decided to head back home for a nap.

Maybe I can dream about rainbows.

I headed into the house and I happened to look up at the sky.

Rainbow, clouds, and moon

What is that rainbow doing up there?

Stalked

Bongo next to a manzanita bush full of blossomsThere’s definitely been some mischief going on on my trails today.

I’ve been stalked!

I know it.

I’m not sure why though.

Maybe because the stalker knows that these are my trails.

Or maybe the stalker wants to be there when I finally catch the aliens who have been piling up rocks on my trails.

Or maybe…

I don’t know why.

.

So I guess I’ll just tell you what happened.

Hummingbird in flight

This hummingbird has been stalking me.

Everywhere I went on my trails today, there it was.

Right now it’s flying to its next perch so it can keep an eye on me.

Hummingbird in a tree with an arrow pointing to it

See, there it is.

Looking down at me from that tree.

Hummingbird on a branch

And there it is again.

That bird is everywhere!

My person seems to think there are a lot of hummingbirds out today, but she’s wrong.

There’s only one.

And it’s stalking me.

And she only thinks she saw two hummingbirds at the same time.

Those birds are faster than a speeding bullet.

That bird tricked her into thinking there were two.

But I just thought of something.

If that bird follows me home and starts tapping at my window it’s going to be in trouble.

I’m still living with three cats.

I knew cats were good for something.

Butterflies

Orange spotted butterflyI’ve been worried about the flowers that are starting to show up on my trails, because they make my person spend too much time with her camera.

But now I’ve discovered I’ve got something else to worry about.

Butterflies.

At least the flowers stay in one spot.

But those butterflies are moving all over the place.

So my person starts chasing them with her camera.

And since she’s stuck to my leash I end up having to follow wherever she goes.

What kind of a dog wants to follow butterflies?

Oh no, here we go.

Here comes another one.

White butterfly on white flowers

I was hoping my person would just go for the flowers…

What am I saying?

Now I’m wanting my person to take flower pictures?

It’s not as bad as chasing butterflies – but maybe I should just hide her camera.

Then I wouldn’t have to worry about those pictures at all.

***

Oh.

She wouldn’t be able to take any pictures of me then.

That wouldn’t be good.

I’d be stuck with all the old pictures of me and I’d never be able to get any new ones.

Oh well.

I guess I’m going to have to put up with it.

Bongo with a butterfly on his nose

If you can’t beat ‘em – join ‘em.
