Reasons to Go Out

16 Oct

I go out in the yard for a number of reasons.

Sometimes it’s to do my business.

But that’s not always the case.

Sometimes it’s nice outside – or there are good smells out there – and I just want to hang out in the yard for awhile.

Other times my people tell me to go outside.

And when I come back in when I’m told they give me a treat.

I like that treat thing.

So sometimes I ask to go out…

…so I can come back in again and get a treat.

Bongo waiting at the door to come in

Hey people, I’m ready to come in now.

Bongo with a sad look

Are you gonna give me a treat?

What do you mean, no?

Bongo sitting and waiting for a treat

How about now?

I’m in my best treat pose.

Come on. I came back in the house, didn’t I?

That’s got to be good for something.

Patrecia, I’m coming over to your house. My people are stingy with the treats.

Well I would not give you loads of treats because too many will make you fat but I would give you lots of love

Patrecia, I’ll never get fat. I’ll just jump up and down and run around some more. But I’ll take all the loves you will give me.

Mary, that’s what I say. I can’t figure out why my people think differently sometimes.

Did your people tell you you’re too smart for your own good? I feel like that’s coming if they didn’t say it already….

Cupcake, it’s only good if it brings you extra treats.

It is good when you come back on by yourself, Bongo. Unfortunately it doesn’t count, it only counts when you are called in and come. We think its unfair too especially Aspen. He is learning commands and gets treats when done correctly, then he will come over to do the new learned command but gets nothing since Mom didn’t ask . He has a hard time with that, mom always gives him lots of love and good boys but no treats. You might tell Mom you did a very pretty sit 🙂

The only time my person tells me to sit is when she’s putting on my leash. I still don’t get any treats for it, but at least I get a walk.

Getting a walk is a reward, what if you walked away all the time and never sat. Would you get a walk if Mom had to chase you? Aspen loves pets, scratches and being told he’s a good boy so that’s a treat to him too 🙂

Smart …… I have also used this strategy in my training. I pretend I don’t know how to do the thing she wants me to do. More attempts. More treats. (Don’t tell her, I ‘m still hungry)

Junior, it’s always good when we can trick our people into giving us extra treats.

Lily & Edward, sometimes lizards show up in my yard and on my trails, but I usually ignore them.

Oh yes!!! You’re in your best treat pose and it is unbearable not to give you a tear because of your cute face, Bongo!
