Ever since my younger person was little my family had a Christmas tradition. As soon as the tree went up a special visitor came to their house every night. That visitor was the Christmas Elf. The elf would leave candy for my younger person in special containers under the Christmas tree. A couple days before Christmas the elf would even leave some small gifts.
My younger person used to look forward to getting up in the morning and checking to see what the Christmas Elf had brought him. It was kind of like a mini Christmas.
That all changed when I came to live here. I’d been here for several months before Christmas finally came around so I was pretty much part of the family by then. Well, they put the tree up and that night the Christmas Elf showed up. There were chocolates here and there under the tree. They smelled so good and since they were left where I could reach them I figured they must be for me – so I ate them. Mmmmm delicious!
The next day I didn’t feel so good and my person noticed that all the candy was missing. I didn’t get in much trouble because my person figured the natural consequences of my actions were punishment enough (What did I just say? I was sick and that was bad enough.)
I was never tempted by chocolate again so I guess you could say I learned my lesson. Actually, I’d probably gobble it right up if I ever found any chocolate, but that was the last time the Christmas Elf ever came to our house. I’m not sure where he went, but it isn’t here.

Dianda, I’ll see if my younger person knows where that Christmas Elf went.

So, I guess you won’t be coming to Belgium then, the land of chocolate 🙂

Sweet Kitten, I’ll still come to Belgium. Just don’t tell my person when I eat the chocolate.

I wish an elf would come leave presents under the tree for me. I know I’m not allowed to have chocolate, but I do like other yummy presents. My favorite thing about Christmas presents under the tree, though, is the paper they are wrapped in. I love to shred it!

Lola, you’re right – sometimes the packaging is the best part of the present, but tasty treats are awfully good too.

Ya know, I think you got off lucky. Once I got into some chocolate and Jen freaked! She kept pouring peroxide down my throat and then taking me outside, then back in for peroxide then back outside. I never did puke, and the chocolate didn’t make me sick. But just in case, she learned to be more careful about what stays out- even if she THINKS it’s out of reach.

Rumpy, I guess I really did get off lucky. I didn’t feel very good after, but that peroxide sounds really yucky.

Don’t eat any more chocolate Bongo, it’s bad for doggies, makes you really sick, as you know; in fact, it’s poisonous to dogs. Stick to the doggie treats – a much safer option!
I wonder where that Elf did go?

Barb, I’m still looking for that Elf. My person says no more chocolate for me, but doggie treats would be nice.

The Christmas Elf should leave doggie treats. Then you could share with the younger person. 😉

I bet your little person appreciates having you year-round more than an elf that just visits for a few weeks. He might miss the chocolates, though.

Wonderbutt’s person, my person says it was about time for the Christmas Elf to go away anyway. I just pushed the issue. I think I’m good at doing things like that.

Maybe if you go to bed very early and sleep all night, the Christmas elf will come back.

Literary chicks, I’ll try anything if it will get that Christmas Elf to come back.

The German has been moping around wanting a Christmas story with a dog in it (that’s not sad and tear-jerky), so I’m sure she’ll appreciate this nice little tale. (but she’ll probably want to dictate a letter to the Christmas Elf requesting dog treats. If successful she’ll share.)

Karen, please tell The German that I’ll help her write that letter.

Deannamelanie, I’m hoping my younger person knows how to get hold of the Christmas Elf so he can tell him to come and bring doggie treats.

I understand you Bongo. I love chocolates because it smells very delicious, but we can’t have…that’s why we are so desperate for chocolates!!! If I had been you, I would have done the same as you did! I wonder why Christmas elf stopped coming there??? Woof?

Kevin, I still keep looking for that Christmas Elf – but maybe he felt bad because he didn’t have any doggie treats for me.

Don’t tell the little fella this but in ancient English tradition Elves were evil and caused misfortune. They’d fire invisible magic arrows, stick their spears in you or hit you with their sword when you weren’t looking. That’s where we get the terms “shooting pain”, “stabbing pain” and “stroke”.

Bones, I didn’t realize that about elves. Quite different than when we think of Santa’s elves. Even the elves in Harry Potter weren’t that bad.
