Let Me at Him

12 Jan

Bongo Next to a RockMy person and I were walking along our trails today when all of a sudden around a bend comes another person with a big white dog. That other person pulled her dog to the side of the trail so us dogs wouldn’t meet. Kind of like my person usually does to me.

Well, that white dog and I must have had the same thing in mind. We both wanted to get to each other. I was pulling hard toward that dog, but my person held me too tight. That dog was pulling to get to me too, but his person held him even tighter.

My person made me go past that other dog and I wasn’t very happy about it. I really wanted to check him out. But no – people spoil all the fun sometimes.

So we continued on our walk and I forgot about that other dog. There were so many good smells and things to think about. As we headed back to the trailhead I began to think about dinner – until I saw him. I found that same white dog hanging around at the trailhead. Of course we both tried to get to each other again – yanking and pulling – and of course our people wouldn’t cooperate.

Then something really strange happened. Our people decided to let us get together. This is too easy. They let us sniff noses and —-other things.

And now I have a new friend named Bentley.

Bongo and Bentley

My person doesn’t want me to greet other dogs unless I’m off my leash. When I’m on leash, I’m supposed to ignore them but I can’t always do that. Bently looks like a friendly pal, so I’m glad you got the chance to meet.

Lola, my person found out that Bentley is a new neighbor, so we’ll probably be seeing each other a lot. I like it when I can make friends with the dogs I see on the trails all the time.

Great post and pics. Bongo and Bently – has a nice ring to it. Lulu is not allowed to meet other dogs when she is on her leash either. – DogDaz

Fangs for stoppin’ by our bloggie, Bongo! We liked your ‘meet and greet’ story today! We get to go out in our stroller and sometimes meet puppers but then they stick their noses right up to the screen and sniff and well, we hiss! Most kitties just aren’t as trusting as doggies…and we are glad you have a new neighbor and ‘hiking’ friend!

People are funny you know..they always think that dogs will be aggressive and this is why they pull back..to save you from being hurt…so it was a very brave person who let you nose to nose etc…happy friendship..now you will have someone to meet along the trails and not just puddles

I am so glad you chatted nicely with your new friend. I think sometimes are people aren’t sure how we are going to react. They seem to think we are unpredictable or something. Strange, huh?

Mind you I did suddenly bark loudly in the face of a boy greyhound I met when we were both on our leads on a walk a few days ago – which the LOTH certainly wasn’t expecting.

He looked remarkably unimpressed and turned away as if it hadn’t happened. Not sure who was the most embarrassed. The boy greyhound’s mum said: “Oh! I’m not used to hearing a greyhound bark. He never barks”.

The LOTH muttered: “She doesn’t – USUALLY!”

Sometimes, humans are too conservative not to let us at the other dogs. I know they are worried if we might get fight, but we could be friends occasionally.
Oh! by the way, thanks very much for the note that you found me on Rumpy’s blog!!! Yes, I luckly had an oppotunity to be a guest on his blog, like you did! 🙂 I truly thank Rumpy because of him, I could meet you, Bongo and the other friends, too! 🙂

I couldn’t have ever let my other dog Sephi do that. She was dog aggressive. My dog Maya, on the other hand, would have loved to meet Bongo and Bentley. Sephi passed away this past November. We have a new dog now, Pierson. Since he won’t walk on a leash yet (because he is leash shy and doesn’t know how), I haven’t had a chance yet to see how he will do. We will have to take it very slow so that he doesn’t feel threatened. He might have been a bit intimidated by Bongo and Bentley.

Dawn, my person never knows what to expect from me the first time I meet another dog, so she usually makes me stay away from them. After I know a dog I get along fine. Bentley and I got along fine the first time we met, which made my person very happy. She didn’t have to drag me away.
