I don’t get it person. Do you mean to tell me that Peter, that guy who tried to walk to Jesus on the water, and told Jesus he loved him, got arrested and put in prison? Why would anyone put Peter in prison? Who did it? I want to give them what for.
That mean old King Herod did it? I’m for sure going to give him what for. He’s really nasty. Didn’t he want to kill Jesus when he was a baby?
What? Now I’m totally confused. That wasn’t the same King Herod? That other King Herod was this King Herod’s grandfather? So grandson Herod was a meanie like his grandfather and put Peter in prison.
Is being in prison kind of like being locked in a tiny fenced yard with no way to jump the fence?
What? It was worse? Peter was chained between two soldiers and there were guards making sure he didn’t jump the fence?
What’s the good part? That sounds pretty bad to me.
The church offered constant prayer to God for Peter? What good will that do? Will prayer help Peter jump the fence? He’d have to drag those two guards with him. I can’t even drag you over the fence when you grab hold of me.
Well, my person says that prayer did do some good because when Peter was sleeping an angel of the Lord stood by him and a light shone in the prison. The angel woke Peter up and told him to get up quickly. And you know what? Those chains fell off Peter’s hands.
Then that angel told Peter to get dressed and follow him. Peter thought he was seeing a vision and that the angel wasn’t real, but he followed him anyway. They went past two guard posts and came to the iron gate that leads to the city. And that gate opened all by itself. I wish the gate in my yard would open by itself.
Okay person, I’ll listen.
They went down a street and the angel left. Peter finally realized that everything that had happened was real and he was free.
Hey person, if it was those prayers from the church that sent the angel to free Peter, do you think you could pray that an angel would come let me out so I can run free. I’ll come back when I’m tired. I promise.

Bongo, I’m sure an angel will come when you’re praying for one, but they are to protect you and they want you to be safe, therefore I think you can better pray for something else 🙂

The angel certainly could protect you while you were out running around but think how sad your person would be not knowing where you were–even if you were with an angel. I think you should be happy on your trail and taking care of your person.

Yes….your person is good to you, like God is good to us. He puts boundaries around our lives so that we won’t get hurt. Because He worries about us, like your person worries about you.

I asked God about opening the gate to let you out and He said that it was not a good idea as there are cars and other nasty things out there which could harm you , so it is better for you to stay inside the gate and only go for walks along your trail.
Peter of course was a different matter. He had God’s work to do and God did not want him in jail so He got Peter out. God knew that although Peter would still be in danger from nasty old Herod…the angels would always be there to protect him….

Patreciau, I was just thinking about you a day or two ago because I’ve missed you. My person has been so busy lately that we haven’t been reading our friend’s blogs much. Do you think I would be safe if I hung out with Peter? After all, he’s got the angels protecting him.

I know sometimes it seems like it would be great to jump the fence (like when that pesky Squirrel is teasing me), but my Mum says it’s really not better on the other side and I think she might be right Dude….. so you may want to re-consider? 🙂

Why King Herod( grandson of old King Herod) arrested Peter and put him in prison? Because Peter was told what he should do by Jesus? King Herod got Peter instead of Jesus? I’m glad to hear that angel helped him to escape from the prison where it sounded scary place!
Bongo, I don’t think that where you are is not scary, so the angel might not come to you to open the gate for you!

Kevin, Peter was put in prison some time after Jesus had been crucified. The religious leaders in Jerusalem had started persecuting Christians and King Herod was going along with it. Some Christians had already been killed and they intended to kill Peter.
I guess my house is not nearly as scary as Peter’s prison cell – except maybe when Scratchy has his claws out. It’s just that I can’t run free and I love doing that. My person doesn’t like it when I do though.

When I adopted Nala one of the reasons for her previous family giving her up was because she kept jumping their fence (a four footer). For four feet Nala doesn’t even pause. (She seems to be part deer.) She also can climb over the seven foot wooden fence at day care.
Point being that this kind of thing can be SO frustrating because we want to give our furry friends some freedom but an inch can so easily become a mile (or ten miles). There’s a whole world out there and we are asking these guys to stay in such a small part of it!
However, I have found that the invisible fence my boyfriend has works wonders for Nala.

Kristin, I bet Nala and I would have a great time escaping and running off together. I jump to the top of my six foot fence and pull myself over. My person won’t let me stay out in the yard by myself any more. Don’t tell her about that invisible fence thing though. She’s already learned most of my tricks and I hardly ever get to escape any more.

Great Story Bongo!!! Can you imagine a Angel coming to release you from a prison? The old guy being the character he is would say “hell yeah!” and the Angel would of course just leave him there… LOL… thats our collie story and we are sticking it!

Collies, I know you’d miss the Old Guy if the angel left him in prison. But I bet you could start a Collie Brigade and get him out yourselves. Those prison guards wouldn’t stand a chance.
