Hanging Out

01 Oct

Staying in the YardI’ve got my person trained pretty well. She won’t leave me alone in the yard by myself. It’s kind of a bummer on nice days. Sometimes I’d like to hang out outside, but my person is afraid I’ll jump the fence. I don’t know why. It’s not like I do it all the time. Besides, it’s a lot of work to get over that fence. I think I deserve to run free after all that work.

Anyway, back to training my person – since she won’t leave me in the yard by myself she has to have a way to get me back into the house. Most of the time I’m nice to her and I go back in on my own. Sometimes though, I really don’t feel like going in. Sometimes I want to run around the yard, sometimes I want to eat a few weeds, and sometimes I want a treat.

When I wouldn’t come in my person started coaxing me in with treats. Whoopie! I love treats. I’m never coming in again until I hear the sound of that treat ringing in my bowl. This worked for a day or two and then my person got smart. Now I get treats when I come in on my own, but if she has to make me come in I don’t get a treat. I guess I’d better head on in that door.

Bongo, being outside unsupervised is probably as much about predator humans as it is about you. I just read a post about a husky that was stolen from her yard. The incident was caught on video. But it’s sad that that family is missing their beloved dog.

Wow Rumpy – I would hate for someone to steal me. A long time ago (before I learned I could jump the fence) a neighbor took me out of my yard because I was barking too much, but she gave me back.

Your person is right, its just not safe outside unsupervised. We are never outside alone either

Kate, thanks for stopping by my blog. I guess I should appreciate my person more for watching out for me – but I sure like jumping the fence and running off.

Wonderbutt cannot be out alone because he proceeds to eat everything in sight. And I mean EVERY THING. He thinks the world is his dinner bowl. His stomach can’t handle the normal stuff he ingests, much less sticks, rocks, and moldy plants.

Wonderbutt, you rock. I’ve never tried to eat rocks before. It might be the new doggie delight.

People are very tricky Bongo. As soon as you get used to one thing they will “move the goal posts” so you must keep doing the same! 🙂

Bassa, I think you’re right. It seems like I have to keep changing what I’m doing to get a treat.

I love to be outside, but I don’t get to stay out there alone for very long. I’m not sure why. Maybe because I’ve been sprayed by a skunk four times?

I get treats when I come inside, too.

Lola, my person says skunks smell bad but what do you think? Some smells that I like my person thinks are bad. We have skunks that live near here but they hardly ever come near my house so I’ve never been sprayed.
