I might not be the pickiest of eaters. I’m still getting rid of those dried beans I ate yesterday. But I’m a lot pickier than some of those coyotes that live in my neighborhood. Most people think they just eat things like rabbits and mice – you know, those little creatures that go scurrying around. Well, they do eat those things. My person would get really upset if I ate one of those cute little animals, so I don’t. Besides, it’s really hard to catch those furry little things when she’s got me on a leash.
But those coyotes eat something that is really strange. It’s so strange that I don’t consider it food at all. We have them all over my front yard and I don’t so much as give them a sniff. But those coyotes do. They eat them by the bushel. Tons and tons of them. Little tiny, round, blue, hard as marbles juniper berries.
Why those coyotes eat them I have no idea. My person sweeps piles of them up from our driveway. A coyote feast full, or a slip-sliding disaster.
Come on coyotes. Come over to my house for a slip ‘n slide. When you get tired of that you can eat those juniper roly things and my person won’t have to leave me alone in the house while she goes out there with a broom.
And while you’re at it, you can have some of the beans that I left along the trail for you too.

Wonderbutt’s person, my person says the juniper berries here aren’t much good for eating (except by coyotes) but she’s heard they use them to make gin.

Jennifer, my person makes me stay on a leash outside because she knows I like to run after coyotes when I see them. Usually we just hear them though and rarely see them.

Deanna, I’m pretty good at scaring those coyotes away, but then I want to keep running after them. My person says that’s not a good idea – something about them ganging up on me. She keeps me on a leash so that won’t happen.

Hi Bongo!
We had to laugh when you mentioned the coyotes eating your used beans! LOL…. Your human is right about them ganging up on you. We heard of a German Shepherd that recently was killed and eaten by Coyotes as they ganged up on him. Be careful. But, you may want to leave your beans along the trails for them when you go on a walk… 🙂

Collies and Chuck, my person has a cousin who lost a big dog to coyotes. I still want to chase them when I see them. My person says it’s good that they rarely show themselves when we’re out. I’m running out of beans for the coyotes. I wonder if my person has any more in her cupboards.

Funny, the foxes seem to like them too. The seem to have tons of berries and seeds in their scat. We used to have many bunnies to chase but now they are all gone since the Red Fox have moved into town. Stay away from those Coyotes! Stay safe and eat healthy. – LOL – DogDaz

I never seen real “coyotes” in my life and Me and mom checked how it looked like on web. Wow, they are very scary! Besides they eat those pretty rabbits and mice???( well…mice are not prettier than rabbits though…) Oh no…poor little creatures….* sniff sniff* I know that ” food chain” in nature and we can’t help it…. anyway Bongo, please be careful of those coyotes!!!

Hey Bongo, I saw a coyote carry off a whole cantaloupe one time. Guess it was going to eat it…maybe the berries are high in Vit C. Interesting.

How nice for you to invite the coyotes over, Bongo. 🙂 We see Coyotes in downtown Santa Fe and they follow me and my dog some. I’ve heard stories about them fighting other domestic dogs, so I’m not going to encourage them to come my way. 🙂
And I think Juniper berries are good for upset stomachs and other things, so maybe those coyotes are really smart. 🙂
