There’s a little valley on my trails that goes down, and then it goes right back up. At the bottom, if it’s been raining there’s a little tiny stream that flows into a wash. If there’s water there its fun to get my feet wet, but my person usually steps over it. She just doesn’t know how to have fun.
What I really like to do is run down that trail building up speed, and then run right back up the other side. I should be able to get all the way to the top that way without any effort at all.
There’s a problem though. A really serious problem. And it’s called My Person. She won’t run. She just keeps plugging along at her same old usual pace. So what happens to me?
I’m running up that hill and I hit the wall. Except the wall is behind me. It’s called “the end of my leash.” All that wasted energy. I’ve still got to go the rest of the way up the hill and all I can do is plod along at my person’s speed. All because she won’t step up the pace and run along with me.
Maybe I should put her on a leash and see how she likes it.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to haul my person up a hill. I wish she would learn that it’s easier if you go fast.

Lola, I’m so with you on that hill thing. Sometimes our people just don’t get it. Wait, wait – my person just said she lets me pull her up the hill on purpose. What’s with that?

I think your person has to do the same thing as me: do more physical exercise, like running 🙂
Bongo
January 11, 2012 at 10:48 am
Sweet Kitten, I’ll pass that on to my person. Maybe if she knows you said it she’ll start running more.

I hear you, Bongo. The end of the leash is the worst. In obedience school, I learned there must be SLACK IN THE LEASH. Aargh. I barely remember the end of my leash anymore.
Love & obedience,

Cupcake, I kind of learned to avoid that end of the leash thing most of the time, but sometimes I just gotta run.

Well maybe you just need a longer leash 😉
Bongo
January 11, 2012 at 5:02 pm
Misty, that’s a great idea. It wouldn’t need to be too much longer for me to reach the top of that hill. Of course no leash would be the best.

Hi Bongo!
LOL… yes our old guy does the same thing but sometimes he does run with us. But, not as much as he used too.. I think it is because he is old.. about 350 in dog years!!! We expect to see him crumble like dust sometimes for he is so old… LOL… It sounds like your person likes to see the scenery and not rush through it. 🙂 Perhaps if you playfully bark at her and bounce forward she will run with you?
Lots of Collie Hugs!

Collies, my person keeps saying something about loose rocks and not so firm footing. I’m not sure what she’s talking about. I don’t have any trouble. I think she might be getting old like your old guy.

Thanks Vanilla Bean. I’m glad I’m not the only one with a slow person. I wonder if it would help if we got behind and gave them a push.

We absolutely agree that leashes are no fun – our person makes us even where these silly harnesses so we stay close. Ah to run free….. – Lulu Belle & Sofie Bear of DogDaz

Lulu Belle and Sofie Bear, running free is so much fun. The only time I get to do it is when I escape, and my person had caught on to my tricks so I hardly ever get past her any more.

Those leashes do spoil all of the fun and especially if there is a person attached. 😉

Brown Dawgs, you’re right – it’s that person attached that always seems to mess things up.

Oh, Bongo, you are such a good dog! We people are tiresome at times! It took many years for Madam Lasagna to walk up hills at my pace. I was just so dense and never caught on. Now we are both arthritic and just take short strolls. If Madam didn’t still chase the Brown Truck, we wouldn’t need a leash at all! 🙂
Bongo
January 11, 2012 at 7:29 pm
Nanina, Madam Lasagna must be like my neighbor dog Timmy. He strolls out a little ways on the trails and then turns around and heads back home. I can’t talk him into going any further with me.

Haha, Bongo, you are such a fun pup! My pups know what it’s like to hit the wall called “the end of their leashes”, too! Scarlett is so fast that when she skateboards with Dom, sometimes she runs too fast for him to put his foot down. It is crazy 🙂
I’m glad you had a nice jog today, even if you didn’t get to go as fast as you wanted. My point with the story above is that I think no matter how fast us people go, it will never be fast enough for you quick pups!!!
Thanks for the post yesterday about Chelsea and for all your support. We couldn’t find her photos when we googled either but we find her when we google you. Chelsea must be famous by association only 🙂

Deanna, I guess we dogs do have an advantage since we have twice as many legs as you people. There’s one person I see on my trails who rides a bicycle and his dog runs along with him. Maybe I should get my person a bicycle – but I bet she’d still be too slow.
In my book, Chelsea is famous in her own right. Praying that her surgery goes well and she heals quickly.

Rumpy, one of my friends reminded me today that the person is attached to the leash too. I think we should take advantage of that.

Bongo, you need to take a walk with Dimples. She loves to run with Wonderbutt on the leash – and she wears him out!

I have similar problems, old chap. I get very excited when Cook or my valet escort me to the park. I start to trot (a dog of my station can’t be seen recklessly running) and pretty soon the same happens to me. That darn leash! The life of a royal can be taxing.

Oh, Bongo! I know how frustrating this is, but your person knows better! However, I’m sure that new patents will be invented soon to solve this. Something like cable cars where every “Bongo” will have his own aerial cable… No?!

Marinakanavaki, that cable car thing sounds interesting. My younger person is pretty inventive. I’ll have to put him on that idea.

My mom always makes lots of efforts not to let me realize that I am on a leash. For example, she walks as fast as I do and if I run, she runs as possible as she can. Although I’ve already known that I’m on the leash because she isn’t fast enough, I pretend not to notice of it! I have to be very patient for mom! BOL! 🙂
Bongo
January 12, 2012 at 10:52 am
Kevin, you are very nice to your mom. Sometimes my patience just runs out.
By the way, yesterday I did a search for Rumpy Dog like I did for Bongo Dog because Rumpy was afraid he’d find June Buggie. I wanted to find out. Besides Rumpy, guess who I found. You! I was so excited because it linked to an interview Rumpy did with you before I knew Rumpy and now I know what you look like.

Sandra, I’ve had that long leash since I came to live with me people. It lets me wander a little.
