Nobody told me this would happen. Why am I so cold? Are you supposed to get cold after you go swimming? I’m shivering. And dripping.
Oh, let me shake this off. That was cool. Now I’m not dripping so much, but my people are.
How did you guys get wet? You didn’t go in the water. Are you shivering too?
Oh, no. What’s that funny sound? It sounds kind of like a woodpecker but it’s not coming from one of the trees. It sounds much closer than that. Very, very close. Is that sound coming from my teeth? They’re making a tune in rhythm to my shivering and I can’t stop them. What’s happening to me?
Whew! That’s better. Now that we’re back on the trail I’m not shivering any more. Person, why was I so cold? Why was my body shaking and my teeth making that funny noise?
What? Getting wet from swimming made me cold? But I can’t give up swimming. It’s too much fun. I know how we can fix it. Next time we come here, can you bring a blow dryer?

I guess you have learned a valuable lesson, Bongo 🙂 I hope you feel better now.

Sweet Kitten, I would shiver again any day if it meant I could go swimming. Once we started hiking back I was fine. It was actually a pretty warm day.

One of my favorite things about getting wet is getting toweled off afterwards. It warms you right up and feels great!

Lola, I’ll have to remind my people to bring a towel next time. I know that toweling off feels really good after I get a bath.

Dogdaz, doggie wetsuits sounds like a great idea. I think I’ll tell my person to check it out.

This adventure made me laugh. I loved it!!! Thanks. Do hair dryers have a battery?

Cee, I guess my people will have to carry a generator in their backpack.

Bassetmomma, the blow dryer works on my person’s hair. I’m sure it would be a great help at the swimming hole.

Rumpy, I like that cuddle close idea. Come on people, get with it. I’m cold and wet here.

Barb, I’ll make sure I add towel to my people’s checklist from now on.

Collies and Chuck, I wish you could share my adventures too. My person said it’s been perfect hiking weather – doesn’t that mean good swimming weather too? She says if we go there in the summer I probably won’t like the hike so much but I’ll really love the swim.

January 17, 2012 at 5:15 pm
Maybe you should leave the swimming until the air is a bit warmer.

Patricia – never! I’ll go swimming any chance I get. For January it was actually a very warm day.

Deanna, it was a great swimming hole. My person says spring will probably be perfect for hiking and swimming here. She says if we go then she can get some more pictures with leaves on the trees.

No body warned you about feeling cold when you’re wet? Well, Bongo, I wasn’t aware of that either, so thanks much for the heads up. Will be careful should the occasion arise. No sir, that’s not for me. I detest the cold!
Bongo
January 17, 2012 at 11:36 pm
Henry, I get wet a lot in the summer because I like to play in the spray of the garden hose. It feels good because it’s hot outside. It was warm outside when I went swimming, but not warm enough to be wet in. I’ll still go swimming any time though. I just have to get my person to put a large towel on her checklist of things to bring.

January 18, 2012 at 1:26 am
…I suppose that kind of answered my question about the water! Poor thing! The “after” shivering was what I was thinking of. But then, a few moments of shivering are nothing compared to the joy of swimming! And as already said above, a towel will help eliminate shivers and castanets, next time!
Bongo
January 18, 2012 at 10:49 am
Marina, I’ll definitely put up with the shivering for the fun of swimming – but I’ve told me person to put a towel on her checklist of things to bring next time. My person likes your castanets metaphor.

Happens to us too. Even when we are wearing our hunting vests. Our person never thought to bring a blow dryer along. We guess a blow dryer would scare off the ducks. 🙂

Next time let your people rub you warm with a towel, then you’ll be fine after the swimming. Too bad I haven’t seen your shivering teeth 😀

Angelswhisper, I’ve told my person to bring a towel with her next time. I should have had her take a video of my chattering teeth. She took some of me swimming.

January 18, 2012 at 6:19 am
somebody somewhere must have invented a wet suit for dogs..that is what you need. In this cold weather you must not go swimming in the water..it is too cold for your little ticker and although you are a fine fettle of a dog you can still catch cold…
So get your people to find out who makes wet suits and then get them to design one for you..that way you can swim without getting wet and without getting cold.
I am sending my love to keep you warm
Bongo
January 18, 2012 at 10:55 am
Patreciau, I’ll have my person get right on that wet suit thing. Maybe I could be a scuba diving dog.

Oh Bongo! Please be careful not to catch a cold because of the swimming! Yes, like misswhiplash said, a wet suit for dog would be very useful!!! 🙂

Bongo, I have no idea what that feels like because my fur is so thick but from your description of the symptoms it doesn’t sound nice! Wait until the weather warms up before you try that again.
Bongo
January 18, 2012 at 11:00 am
Bassa, it would be great to have thick fur like you – as long as I could lose it all in the summer. It gets very hot here then.

Yep I think a blow dryer would do the trick! Unless of course your people would like to install your very own heated swimming hole 😉

Misty, a heated swimming hole sounds really good. I’ll have to get after my person to do that.

Chancy and Mumsy, a dog’s gotta swim when a dog’s gotta swim. I guess I’m like those people who have to go swimming in January – just because. Except it’s a much warmer January here – especially this year.

Bongo I never thought about getting cold Lexie & Mica go in the water with snow all winter they don’t get cold with that thick coat. I’m the one who needs a towel or raincoat for when they shake off on me. I’m usually really cold! Sorry you were so cold when you got out, but it looks like a beautiful place to swim & you are a very good swimmer:)
Bongo
January 19, 2012 at 11:54 pm
Thanks Tylers. Swimming was so much fun that I didn’t mind getting cold. And once we got moving I was fine. I think I’d get really cold if it was a snow day though. The day was much warmer than that.

Bongo, maybe you should think about finding some fur extensions or perhaps there’s a doggie luxurious terry robe somewhere in those specialty pet catalogs. You could even get those doggy back packs and carry it up yourself so your people person could walk lighter. Hee-hee . . . 🙂

Sunshine, I like the idea of a doggie luxurious terry robe, but I think I’ll let my people carry it for me.
