When my people leave the house I have a regular routine. First, I jump up on the couch so I can look out the window and watch my people leave.
Once I’m sure they’re gone I check to see if my person left the cat food on the counter. If it’s still there I reach to the back of the counter, pull Scratchy’s dish forward and have a feast treat. There’s usually not much left in there.
Next it’s the litter box.
Then I go check out my person’s bed. Nice and comfy. Especially up near the pillows. I’m still not sure how my person knows I’ve been on it, but she always does.
But here comes the biggest challenge. I can’t do this one every day. It all depends on what my person left in the sink. Sometimes she leaves things in there with flavored water inside. The trick is to get something out of the sink without spilling the water. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t, but I can only do it if I can find something that doesn’t weigh too much – like a small plastic bowl.
My proudest moment was when I got a jelly jar out of the sink and brought it to the next room without spilling anything. I left it that way until my people got home because I wanted to make sure they saw what I did. I mean, it’s not every dog that can do something like that.

Bongo – You are very talented. If the cats do not leave us any food, we like to chew the plastic bowls up to show them that they really need to share better. Can you teach us how not to spill things? We tend to make a very large mess when we get into food things. Thanks. We enjoy your blog. – Lulu Belle & Sofie Bear of DogDaz

Lulu Belle and Sofie Bear, I may have to give lessons in how not to spill things. But you have to keep it quiet. It’s just between us dogs. I don’t want our people to know.

Ok, Bongo! 1. I’ve got to let you in on a little secret: you leave traces on the sheets and pillows, so we know!, 2. As a kid I used to do the same when my parents left, well, slightly different naughty things, but there you have it! and 3. It takes a very crafty dog to move that jar without spilling the …jelly!

Thanks Jelly. About the bed thing, my person says I’m always messing it up. I’m not sure what she’s talking about. It looks the same to me.

You’re just so smart Bongo! there should be a getting-a-water-filled-bottl-out-of-the-sink-without-spilling award. You are sure to win it!
Bongo
January 26, 2012 at 6:30 pm
Yashikibuta, I could use one of those awards. Maybe I should make one and give it to other dogs who do the same thing.

Some dogs walk upright on their hind legs while carrying an object between their teeth, some push cars, some know how to skateboard. You outdo them all!
(PS – My dogs would be thrilled if you would teach a seminar on how to get those jars full of flavored water out of the sink! If you decide to book a conference room to teach your classes, please let me [them] know.)

Mom, I’m thinking of teaching a seminar for other dogs. But they have to agree not to let any people know how they do it.

Actually I think my main achievement has been raiding the rubbish bin so you are well up on me. Although I do try and get out of the door when Misery comes back because she has forgotten something – and I think I may get out to escape and find that pesky Sooty cat.

Yeah, that sink thing is a routine of mine too. Yesterday I broke a bowl though and got fussed at *sigh*

Rumpy, I’ve broken a couple bowls too but most of the breakable ones are too heavy for me to get out of the sink.

Hi Bongo!
What talent!!! Wait… the litterbox? You don’t eat the “crunchies” out of there do you? Amazing how you didn’t spill a drop! 🙂
God Bless You our friend!

LOL! You’re a very clever dog. I’m so glad Bundy and Max haven’t figured out the sink thing although Bundy has managed to take off with a bottle of olive oil and a bottle of beer at different times, his grip wasn’t too good so I don’t know how much he was able to consume.
Bongo
January 26, 2012 at 6:37 pm
Two Black Doggies, I’ve never gotten a taste of olive oil or beer. My person usually leave that kind of stuff out where I can reach it. I wish she would. My person wants to know if Bundy left an olive oil mess.

What a feat! You got the jelly jar out of the sink and in the other room without spilling the water AND you left it there, and didn’t knock it over til your person came home. Don’t know how you did it. Such determination and self-control.
Bongo
January 26, 2012 at 6:39 pm
Patricia, it’s a secret that I’ll only share with other dogs. I hope my person never gets wise and puts a video camera on me.

Bongo. Just one thing.
You need to go to Hollywood Dude! Someone’s gotta fill in after Lassie and I nominate you with talent like this, you can’t let it go to waste. Sleep on it and tell your persons to sign you with a movie agent! 🙂

Scrappy, I’m not sure what would get me into more trouble – using the litter box or mining it for treats. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Bongo, old chap, you are one clever dog! The jelly jar was quite a feat. You should turn it into a magic act and call yourself, Bongo the Magnificent!

Bongo, I read this on my way to work this morning and I laughed out loud on the bus. I just read it again and it made me laugh again. I love it! I often wonder what Bella and Beary are up to when I’m at work. Maybe I’ll have to install a puppy-cam? Thanks for making me smile.

Kevin, I would be glad to give you lessons, but you can’t show your people how you do it. Dogs only. I do have to admit that litter box has some tasty treats in it and I think Rumpy agrees with me on this.
