To the Vet

17 Feb

Bongo at the VetI got to go to the vet. Yeah I know, some of you who are my dog friends don’t like the vet and your people even have to spell it out. Believe me, I didn’t used to like going. The first time my person took me I even spit out the dog treat they gave me – and if you know me, dog treats are my favorite.

I think I didn’t like the vet then because they’d taken some things away from me. When my people first brought me home I had some missing parts.

But now I love the vet.

First, I get to go find lots of new smells. I always check to see if I recognize any smells from my trails. Sometimes I find the same ones.

Then, I get treats. I used to only get treats when I was ready to go back home, but today I got lots of treats.

I didn’t really like all those things they stuck in me, but after that I got more treats – and loves, so it was okay.

Treats at the Vet

There’s a new vet working with my other vet and I got to meet her. I really like her. She gave me lots of loves – and that’s all she did – she kept giving me loves. I like her a lot.

What, person? She was examining me?

No, you’re wrong. She liked me so much that all she wanted to do was give me loves.

Loving the Vet

Viciously Sweet, you just have to find the right doctor – one who gives lots of loves.

I would be willing to take a beating if the treats were good. Hope they were tasty good ones.

Becomingcliche, I sure hope you can get good treats easier than that – and yes, the treats were good, but I’ll eat almost anything. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

I’m glad you changed your mind about your vet. [they look very nice and I’m sure too all she wanted to do was give you loves!] I only wish there was a way you could convince a certain someone who refuses to like them however many treats they give her!

Marina, the vet was very good at giving me loves. Scratchy has to go today. I think it will be a different story with him.

Thanks Sweet Kitten. It’s easy to be courageous when you get lots of loves and treats.

The German: ” Big woof for your new friend! I still try to hide behind people at the vet…it’s getting harder to look invisible…I was trained when young not to take treats from people – which disappoints those trying to be friends…my people try to explain – but I can see people are sad. Everyone looked really happy when the new tech gave the treat to my person and she gave it to me and said it was OK. This time I was brave and ate it. It was good! Do you think I can go back to those other people I refused the treat from – and say I will be glad to take it now? What do you think Bongo?”

      February 17, 2012 at 1:28 pm

German, I bet those other people would still give you treats if you asked. That was very smart of the new tech to give the treat to your person though. I bet that tech would give you loves too.

Bassetmomma, there are great people at my vet’s office. I’m looking forward to when I get to go back again. Treats and loves.

I get so scared at the vet. I try to climb my person to get away from those needles. Ouch! I don’t think I’ll ever get over that time they made me swallow charcoal when I was a pup. Nasty stuff.

    • Bongo

      February 17, 2012 at 1:30 pm

Lola, they made you swallow charcoal? Yuck! I might be scared at the vet too, if they made me do that.

      • Lola

        February 18, 2012 at 7:22 am

My person says I had something in my tummy that was bad for me. The charcoal kept it from hurting me, but I didn’t like it at all.

        February 18, 2012 at 10:17 am

Lola, I’m probably lucky the vet’s never given me charcoal, since I eat almost everything I can get hold of.

I’m sure your person is confused. All that touching and cuddling is SURELY love. Gulp. At least that’s what I always thought it was.

My cats don’t like the vet either. But I’m sure they know its all for the best. 😉

Dianda, my person just took Scratchy to the vet. He hated it.

        Poor Scratchy. 😦
Maybe he’ll like it too, when you give him treats?

  10. Flo

    February 17, 2012 at 4:06 pm

Ooooo. I hate it when they whip things off you when you’re not looking! Ouch. Still, I’m glad you got over it because it’s so important that you are well-behaved at the the v-e-t’s. Yes, we spell it. We don’t have to spell it for Flo, she’s dopey enough that everything’s an adventure. Fergus… meh, she’s fairly cool about most things but she’d prefer not to have to go – kind of understandable given recent events – but George, on the other hand… one whiff of any cat carrier action and he’s off into the most impossible places – I’ve had to phone people on more than one occasion and explain that he was hiding somewhere from which extracation was impossible, so we’d be there when we could… then we have the waiting stand-off. To date I’ve always won. But George and I both know that will change.

    • Bongo

      February 17, 2012 at 4:23 pm

Flo probably likes going to the vet for the loves and treats like me – but I can understand why Fergus wouldn’t like it after having to spend so much time there. I would miss my people. That George though – Scratchy says he’s the smartest of all, but I say he’s missing out.

Oh Bongo, you are so great! I’m sorry you got pricked but lots of treats are great! Harley is just like you– he adores our veterinarian and perks up when we pull in the lot! Scarlett and Chelsea do not like it at all but once we get inside, they don’t seem to mind too much 🙂

    • Bongo

      February 17, 2012 at 8:09 pm

Deanna, it’s great when we have good vets that give us loves. Yours must be one too, since Harley likes going there. I met a dog on my trails today that looked kind of like Chelsea. This dog wasn’t on a leash and after my person and I passed them, Lucky ran off from his people to come and meet me.

Wonderbutt loves the vet, too, Bongo! I’m not sure why they love him, though. He pees all over the waiting room floor as soon as the receptionist tells him hi.

      February 17, 2012 at 8:11 pm

Wonderbutt is just trying to do all the other dogs a favor. One of the things I like about the vet is all the new smells. Wonderbutt just wants to make sure he leaves a really good smell.

Hey Bongo, Jet here. Bongo, you were really brave, dude. I like Dr. Schaffer bunches, too, so, I know what you mean. I do not like the stuff they do, however, I trot into the office like the manly man I am. Judy, Janie, Victor, Dr. Schaffer, and most other humans in the waiting room give me lots of attention and lovies.

Enjoy those treats and have a great day.

Hey Jet, it’s really great to have so many people loving us at the vet, isn’t it? It’s the best kind of adventure when you get loves and treats.

Brown Dawgs, Storm probably just needs more treats and loves when she goes to the vet. It sure made it worth it for me.

OMD! You look very pleased to see your vet, Bongo! Besides your vets seem to be very nice ladies!!! I hate visiting my vet ( my vet is not a lady…..*sniff sniff*) and whenever I go there, my 4legs are trembling!!! My cat brofur, too! He doesn’t stop me meowing and does pee and poo everywhere because of the fear…..You’re a brave dog, Bongo! and your vets are fabulous! 🙂

Kevin, you should come see my vets. I think they’re great, but Scratchy went yesterday and my person says he turned into a monster – scratching and biting. I guess he doesn’t like it there as much as I do.

    Hi Bongo,

Glad you had a fun time at the Vet, you’re new person there sounds like my Vet Rick, he gets on the floor and plays with me and cuddles me – Mum says he’s doing his job, what a great job, hey? Then he gives me treats!! 🙂

    Big wags,

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

Snoopy, my new vet is the first one that has gotten on the floor and cuddled me like that. I think your vet Rick and my vet are just extra special. Especially when they give us treats too.

Hey, hey Bongo! I almost fell off the edge of the world but I’m back and glad to hear you got your wellness check up. Good thing no blood work was part of your visit. Bleh and ouch!

    • Bongo

      February 19, 2012 at 10:36 pm

Sunshine, I heard that word blood work because I’d lost some weight but I think it’s all those walks on my trails that did it – and my people of course aren’t feeding me enough. The vet said I looked like I weighed the right amount though, so no worries.

        February 19, 2012 at 10:49 pm

Bongo, you better give some hints to your persons to make sure they get the highest protein dog food out there. It tastes better too and maybe they can get some gourmet dog recipes to cook for you. 🙂

        February 20, 2012 at 10:40 am

Sunshine, I’ll tell my person to check into that dog food and those recipes. Anything that tastes good sounds good to me.

Bongo, believe it or not Lexie & Mica love to go to the vet, They don’t even like the dog treats (not the ones the vet has). I take some special ones they like, but they really like all the petting and hugs and they think the vet just loves to see them. That’s really great because it make going much easier 🙂

I wish you could talk to Marley & convince him that going to the vet isn’t all that bad.. I have to Carry all 60lbs of him inside (as he’s wiggling to escape my arms). It’s kind of embarrassing. Ugh!

You are so fortunate. Mr. Sammo has to be muzzled whenever he sees the vet. That’s the only way to keep the Big Guy out of trouble.

    • Bongo

      February 21, 2012 at 6:43 pm

Sandra, I think Scratchy needs to be muzzled too – and mittens put on his paws. He’s the total opposite of me at the vet.
