Strange Neighbors

17 Mar

Bongo in front of neighbor's yardOne of my neighbors has a giraffe in his yard. He has an ostrich too. We don’t live in Africa so I’m trying to figure out how they got there. They aren’t even fenced in, but they never leave their own yard. I get all kinds of animals wandering into my yard – dogs, cats, javelinas, squirrels, lizards, and bunches of birds – but never a giraffe or an ostrich. I think I would like it if they came visiting.

I wonder what it would be like if they did. I’d have to be careful of that giraffe’s legs. They’re very long. I could probably run under the giraffe without him even noticing.

My person says I’d better be careful of the ostrich’s legs too because they can kick, and they can run very fast. If I made that ostrich mad I might be in deep trouble.

Well, my person says I have to tell you how that giraffe and ostrich got into my neighbor’s yard and why they don’t come over to my yard. In the town we live in there are a lot of artists and my neighbor is one of them. My person says he’s some kind of artist called a sculptor and he made the animals in his yard. And I thought only God made animals.

Giraffe and Ostrich

A brave dog like you is not afraid of big animals, or are you?

Sweet Kitten, I’m sure I could whip those big animals if they gave me any trouble – but I think my person must be afraid of them.

I’ve heard that giraffes kick as well! That’s a dangerous yard your neighbors have 😉

Jen, I think those animals must be afraid of me though, because they never leave their yard when I walk by.

Bongo, I have 3 llamas that live down the street & they’re real … they spit you know! One time my mom was in Australia in a park where they had all kinds of animals running around. Someone was taking her picture & she got punched in the back… yup, it was an ostrich & he looked her right in the eyes. I just have to deal with a cat in my house, but you know cats…. Lola
Bongo – I just look at your face & smile every time – Diane

Lola, I definitely know cats – at least one cat. Almost as mean as an ostrich, but at least they’re not as big. My person says she thinks llamas are cool, but she’s never had one spit on her. I think she might change her mind about them if one did.

Bongo, those are some giant animals in your neighbor’s yard!!! Do you think it’s strange they don’t seem to move at all? Or do they!? I guess you can never be too sure…

Deanna, I think they’re scared of me so they pretend like they’re frozen whenever I walk by.

That giraffe looks pretty realistic! I wonder if it would scare away the squirrels in our yard?

Wonderbutt’s person, maybe I should get a giraffe in my yard – if it’ll keep those pesky squirrels away.

Oh Dog! A happy St. Paddy’s Day to ya all! I checked out your neighbor’s website. Some cool stuff, but I gotta tell ya, I liked the self-portrait the best. It was happy. Like the outside sculptures.

Hey Bongo, Jet here. Wow, what a fascinating neighborhood you have, so creative! Mom likes giraffes, too. Mom’s grandfather was that thing called a sculptor too!

Jet, my person says one of the great things about living here is that there are so many creative people, and it’s cool having one of them be our neighbor. That’s cool that there was a sculptor in your family.

You have a pretty talented neighbor Bongo. Hey, maybe he can do a wood sculpture of you? That would be cool and you can have it in your front yard–like a guard dog on duty, 24/7!

Sunshine, that would be cool – having a Bongo statue in my yard.

Patreciau, it is pretty cool where I live – but I’m not sure you would want to be here today. We have bunches of snow.

Bongo, your neighbour is very talented, like your person and you are also very abstract talented. Are you all famous in the neighbourhood? He made some very beautiful sculptures, and I also saw some cats, but they looked a kind of strange…maby Scratchy was posing? (Sorry, Scratchy)
Wouldn’t it be nice to make a sculpture of you too, Bongo? 🙂

Angels Whisper, not all my neighbors are famous, but we do have a few famous people in Sedona where I live. It probably was Scratchy posing. He is kind of strange.

Cool. We’ve just got kids in our neighbours’ garden – booooooooring! It would be much more fun to have a giraffe.

Flo, we have another sculptor in town who does kids. They’re pretty cool, but it sure is great having a giraffe for a neighbor.

Wow! Your neighbour is great artist!!! I checked his website that surprised and impressed me a lot! Those sculptures are pawsome!!! I think he should make a doggy sculpture in his yard, so that you can visit him/her sometimes!!! 🙂

Kevin, that would be great to have a dog in my neighbor’s yard. We watched Hachi last night about an akita dog from Japan. Is that what kind of dog you are?

HOw cool!!!! Your neighbor is very talented! Ginger wanted me to point out that if you were to rip off the Giraffe’s leg you would have the biggest bone ever!!! nom, nom, nom….. You certainly live in a wonderful place Bongo!

    Your envious friends,
    the collies and chuck 🙂

    • Bongo

      March 19, 2012 at 12:53 pm

Collies and Chuck, that would be a big bone, but I would feel bad if that giraffe had to lean over because I ate his leg. Ginger, you’d better get Chuck to bring you home a bone from work.

What a talented neighbor you’ve got there, Bongo! My puppies would have been insanely curious about such big creatures and probably a little scared too. You’re such a brave boy not being a scaredy cat around them!

    • Bongo

      March 19, 2012 at 1:07 pm

Anastasia, as long as those creatures stay in their yard I don’t have to worry about them. If they came over to my house I might be a bit concerned.
