Sometimes I like to play a game with my person when we’re out on my trails. I’m not sure if she really likes playing it with me. She doesn’t always act like she’s having much fun. I think it’s great though.
I call the game Follow the Leader, and of course I’m always the leader. My person tries to lead but I always run back in front of her.
The best way to play this game is to go around a tree and refuse to come back the way I went in. Since my person is attached to my leash she has to follow me.
She doesn’t seem to want to follow me most of the time. She keeps mumbling something about low branches. I’m not sure what she’s talking about. I fit right under them with no problem. If she would walk on four legs like I do she’d fit under them too.
She usually spoils the game at this point. I’m trying to go out the other side and she’s trying to pull me back the way I went in. We usually end up at a standstill.
She’s not going to win. She’s going to have to go under those branches.
What!? She tricked me. She unhooked my leash and pulled it around the tree. Come on, person. You’re supposed to crawl under those branches. What fun is this?

Bongo, she’s not following the rules… our rules – Lola
May 11, 2012 at 1:00 pm
Lola, my person is not very good at following rules. I keep having to get after her.
May 11, 2012 at 10:58 am
Ooh yu naughty dog Bongo – your person is not made to walk on all fours like you! Cut her some slack! (But I have to agree, it IS a good game – just not too often, OK?)
May 11, 2012 at 1:01 pm
Susan, I think my person would have a lot of fun if she decided to play the right way.
May 11, 2012 at 11:06 am
Awe, look at how Happy You look Bongo! Adorable!
May 11, 2012 at 1:02 pm
Jackie, I’m always happy when I can get out and play.
May 11, 2012 at 11:51 am
Hey Bongo, this Follow the Leader game sounds like fun. 😛 I should try it with Mommy sometime. 🙂 ❤
May 11, 2012 at 1:03 pm
Fluffy Popcorn, the game is great fun. I definitely recommend it.
May 11, 2012 at 12:58 pm
Bongo, I wanna play the game too! Jaz
May 11, 2012 at 1:03 pm
Jaz, come on over. I’ll play the game with you.
May 11, 2012 at 1:09 pm
Bongo, what’s your breed/background?
May 11, 2012 at 1:23 pm
Teresa, when my people got me at the Humane Society they were told I was a pointer mix. I think there’s some shepherd in me too, and who knows what else.

Wonderbutt’s person, you’re not supposed to tell my person that.
May 11, 2012 at 9:40 pm
Hey Bongo, Jet here.
Hey that’s a good one… I do the same thing around trees, telephone poles, street signs and the like. Even better is when JJ and I do this at the same time from opposite directions! Mom looks like a person on a Saturday cartoon.
Have a great day.
May 11, 2012 at 9:48 pm
Hey Jet, that must be loads of fun to do that at the same time with JJ. Sometimes it’s nice to be an only dog, but at other times it would be really nice to have a buddy.
May 12, 2012 at 4:04 am
JJ had a sleepover at Dr. Shaffer’s last night, so I had an only dog day/night with Mom… and yes, it’s fun to be an only dog and yes, I do enjoy having a pal.
May 11, 2012 at 9:45 pm
Ha-ha! The go around the tree trick gets them every time! Nice job Bongo!
May 11, 2012 at 9:51 pm
Thanks Brown Newfies. I probably should have saved that for my Monday Mischief post, but I just couldn’t wait.
May 11, 2012 at 11:45 pm
\its a bit of a dog’s life when your person won’t go down on all fours in amongst the sticks, stones ans brambles….put in a complaint to Action for Dogs and get a new law passed… xxxx
May 12, 2012 at 12:10 am
Patreciau, I’ll have to do that right away. Action for Dogs, Action for Dogs. My person will be following me in no time.
May 12, 2012 at 12:02 am
O, Bongo, you don’t making it a predominant game, are you? 🙂
May 12, 2012 at 12:11 am
Angels Whisper, I don’t do it all the time. I have other games I like to play too.
May 12, 2012 at 12:28 am
And I ask you Bongo: what kind of a leader would you be if your person was also standing on 4 feet… I seriously doubt you’d want that! Leadership has its little problems!
May 12, 2012 at 11:42 am
Marina, I guess you’re right. It would be harder to drag my person around because her “feet” wouldn’t be as good as mine.
May 12, 2012 at 7:15 am
It sounds interesting game, Bongo! On our walk, I’m always the leader too like you, Bongo!!! 🙂
May 12, 2012 at 11:43 am
Kevin, at least we’re getting our people somewhat trained.
May 12, 2012 at 7:39 am
Bongo, I think we became disconnected on WordPress as I have not been seeing your posts on blog reader. I will unfollow and follow again to see if that solves the problem.
May 12, 2012 at 11:45 am
Bassa, I was wondering if that happened. I stopped seeing your posts too, but am still getting the emails. My person has just been very busy lately and hasn’t had much time to read posts. She says she has finished some of her projects now and might have a little more time soon.
May 12, 2012 at 9:10 am
Stoppin’ to say “hello” and wish you and yours a Happy Mother’s Day tomorrow.
And Bongo, don’t play that game with your person this weekend. Okay?
Have a wonderful weekend!
Y’all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
May 12, 2012 at 11:47 am
Hawk, I’ll try to refrain from playing that game this weekend. After all, it is Mother’s Day tomorrow. Happy Mother’s Day to you and yours too.
May 12, 2012 at 9:43 am
Jen does that when I try to walk her beneath the deck.
May 12, 2012 at 11:48 am
Rumpy, I think our people cheat. They should follow us wherever we go.
May 12, 2012 at 12:37 pm
That’s why we like our woods walks, they’re off leash. We always play follow the leader sometimes Lexie sometimes Mica but we each get to step where it’s the easiest. But sometimes we leaders have places its hard to go. Like over very big trees that are down. Our people get over but we have to find a way around. Its a fun game to play. Happy Mothers Day to your person:-)
May 12, 2012 at 1:13 pm
Lexie and Mica, It sounds like you have lots of fun playing follow the leader. I wish I could go off leash on my walks but my person says no way. Happy Mother’s Day to your mom too.
May 12, 2012 at 6:02 pm
LOL!!! Oh my….. Laddie use to love to do this to me on the trails. We would get close to a tree and at the last minute he would walk on the other side and there I am running right into the tree…Trevor would get mad.. snort and grumble as we straightened out the mess and then stomp off leading us on the trail again….I dont know if you ever saw the big bulldog on Looney Tunes cartoon or the Bulldog Butch on Tom and Jerry but his stomping walk was like that… LOL…. I’d give anything to take Trevor on one more walk… Great post, we laughed and it brought back dome great memories…
May 12, 2012 at 10:45 pm
Collies and Chuck, that must have been something straightening out multiple leashes. My person says she does remember that bulldog.
May 13, 2012 at 1:24 am
Wait a moment….. Bongo…those stones might be a new types of ” Stonehenge” and will be considered as one of the ” Seven Wonders of the World” !!! No… it’ll be 8th, so ” Eight Wonders of the World” !!!! Wow!!! Great discovery!!! You might get lots of interviews by medias from all over the world!
May 13, 2012 at 7:05 am
Oops, Bongo…I made a mistake where to leave a comment!!!! Sorry!!!
May 13, 2012 at 1:16 pm
That’s okay Kevin. I enjoy getting your comments every day – no matter where you leave them.
May 13, 2012 at 1:12 pm
