Secretary Dog

22 May

Bongo the SecretaryWhat do you think I am, a secretary?

My person and I were walking along my trails today and all of a sudden she started mumbling. She started talking about the things she needed to remember to do when she got back home.

Hasn’t she learned anything from me yet? She’d be much better off if she would enjoy the moment – like dogs do. All that stuff she has to do at home – that can wait until she gets home. She shouldn’t even be thinking about it when we’re out on my trails.

She started saying something about remembering to do the laundry, and then you know what she did? She asked me to help her remember to do the laundry. Me, of all dogs!

Do you think I care if she does the laundry? I actually think she shouldn’t do the laundry. Her clothes smell better after she’s worn them– and then she washes them and takes all that good smell away.

What’s even worse is when she washes one of my toys. She practically ruins it and it takes me a long time to get the right smell back in it.

Maybe I should help her forget to do the laundry. Or maybe I can knock over the laundry detergent so she can’t do the laundry.

Or better yet, I’ll take her on a very long walk on my trails. It’ll be dark when we get back and you can’t do the laundry in the dark – can you?

Doesn’t your person know that you are Super Dog?

Sweet Kitten, I guess my person thinks that since I am Super Dog I can do anything. Oh no, she’d better not wash my Super Dog cape! I’m shutting down that washing machine right now.

O, Bongo, I wish I was a dog, than I never have to do the laundry anymore and I would still smell good. You are so right, Bongo: never bring your laundry on the trails, but enjoy that special moment 🙂

Bongo, you are so right. My person needs to learn to fully experience our walks, too. She often gets distracted by her To Do list instead of enjoying the sights, smells and sounds of our neighborhood. They have so much to learn!

Lola, I’ve been working on my person for a long time. I think us dogs need to get together and start an intensive training school for our people.

I am sure your person has learned lots of things being with you, Bongo. Maybe not about laundry and the reason not to do it. But about loyalty and friendliness and curiosity and loving unconditionally…those kind of things. Good boy!

    Hey Bongo, Jet here.
I can’t agree more about removing the smell by that laundering activity. Although I do like the scent of Mom’s products.

We have to keep Mom in the moment too. We usually tangle her up in leashes and that snaps her back!

Hey Jet, I like your idea of tangling leashes. It’s harder when there’s only one of me, but sometimes I do manage to get my leash all twisted up.

Bongo, I think you can help her remember. At least, tell her you’ll help her so she can then relax and enjoy the trails. Once you get home, you can forget and not say a word. Who’ll know the difference? It’s a dog’s life, isn’t it?

Monica, that’s a great idea. If we both forget my person won’t remember I forgot – and if she remembers it won’t matter that I didn’t tell her.

It’s asking too much of any dog to expect them to remember to remind their person about laundry. I do hope that you managed to make her forget!

So right, Bongo! Laundry Day stinks, or actually takes away the stink – not in a good way. I hate it. When Mom fills the laundry basket, I climb right in there and sit on top of the dirty clothes. Undeterred, she either chases me or bribes me out and gets on with it. Ugh. It’s a no-win for us.

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

Cupcake, I hadn’t thought of sitting on the dirty clothes. I bet they’re comfy too. As a matter of fact, sitting on the clean clothes might help put some good smells back into them.
