Church Dog

16 Jul

Bongo Looking InnocentI got into so much mischief on Saturday that my person had to take me to church. She made me sit quietly when there were all kinds of people to get loves from. I didn’t like it one bit.

My person left the house early on Saturday morning. She does that sometimes. Then my younger person got out of bed and he left the house too. Now it was just me and Scratchy. Scratchy never wants to play so I decided to take a nap.

Everything was going along fine until I heard it. Rain pounding down on the roof and then the most horrible of sounds. The loud clap of thunder right nearby.

I tried hiding in my person’s closet but it didn’t feel safe enough so I tried to get into the closet at the end of the hallway. I tried really hard, but I couldn’t get the door open. I decorated it though. It has a really pretty pattern on it now.

Patterned Damaged Door

Finally, I heard my person’s car pull up. I went to the door and put on my innocent face. I hoped she wouldn’t look in the hallway. She had a couple friends with her so I figured I was safe.

Oops, she looked. I’m in trouble now.

My person put on my leash and everyone got in the car. Me too. When we got out again my person said we were at the church she hangs out at a lot. I’ve never been there before so I made her take my picture with her friends, to prove I was a church dog now.

Bongo and Friends

But then she did it. This was the most horrible punishment for getting in trouble. Having to sit quietly by my person with all those people I could have gotten loves from.

I don’t want to be a church dog anymore.

Oh, no Bongo! Could it be that your person doesn’t appreciate your art? I think the decoration was wonderful! Well, at least you got to be with company during rain…

Marina, I thought that art was pretty cool but my person doesn’t. I don’t know why.

Just an idea, but maybe your person could mount pieces of foam board [or any scratch sensitive material!] on doors to let you do your art and then she could frame them to create the Bongo collection!!!! How ’bout that?!

        July 18, 2012 at 9:08 pm

Marina, I like that idea. Maybe I could get rich selling my art. I would charge lots of loves for each piece.

OMGoodness, Bongo. From the looks of that closet door, even the innocent, sad face wouldn’t be enough! You really did a job on it. Being quiet and sitting alone is rough, but at least you were safe from the dreaded thunder.

    Love and licks,

Cupcake, I guess that’s true. Thunder isn’t nearly as bad when someone is with me.

Geez Bongo, I don’t understand why you get punished for the awful thing Scratchy did to that door…let me look again…yup, cat claws did that!

Diane and Lola, you’re right – Scratchy did do that. I don’t know why my person never believes me when I tell her that.

Shame Bongo – I fully understand re-decorating the door, having been left alone with a thunder storm. You poor thing. However, I would do the church thing again, if I were you. Surely you get some good loving afterwards?

Susan, I’ll have to see if my person will take me on Sunday next time. She says there’s another dog that goes every Sunday so I think I should go too.

We think you did a good job decorating the closet door sweet Bongo. Since you were so good and obeyed at church maybe the next time your mama takes you there she will allow you to get some loves. We understand the door decorating we have some floor decorations here from when those boomers came awhile back. hugs and nose kisses

Chancy and Mumsy, floor decorations are good too. Did you get to go to church afterwards? If you didn’t you might try the door next time.

Nope they won’t let me go to church…they have had kittens there before though and I don’t think that is fair. I guess I better get busy on that door.

Wow, you’re allowed in church? My grandparents’ pastor has a labby dog (not sure what kind of mix she is) but even she isn’t allowed IN the church!

    Hope your thunder goes away.

      July 17, 2012 at 9:51 pm

Jen, we weren’t in the sanctuary. It was a meeting in the kitchen. My person wasn’t going to take me in but her pastor said it was okay.

well, Bongo, look at this way – now you know where to hide when you REALLY get into trouble!!! Just kidding… Bongo – you are a lucky dog to be allowed in church, you know!!!

    🙂

BuddhaKat, I guess I am lucky. Now I just have to figure out how that other dog gets to go on Sundays. Hey person, what does “service dog” mean? Can I be one of those?

    Hey Bongo,

And you couldn’t have blamed Scratchy? Tee Hee – At least you got an outing, I’m sure next time your Mum won’t be as strict and you can socialize? Maybe you can tell her you’re being a Therapy Dog and they need your love? That’s what I did at Blogpaws when I was going around getting pets during the sessions – Tee Hee

I hope you don’t get anymore scary thunder buddy – You can come and hide out with me if you do, cos we really don’t get much at all, maybe like once a year!

    Wags to all

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

      July 17, 2012 at 9:56 pm

Snoopy, for some reason my person doesn’t believe Scratchy did it. But I like that Therapy Dog idea. I think I’ll be one of those. And I may be over to your place. My person says we could keep having thunder through the first part of September. Yikes!

Oh, Bongo – do be careful of the splinters. Doors of cozy spots should be hung by swinging hinges at the top in case of emergencies so a nervous dog can shoulder into safety…or so I’ve been told be several large dogs..
    Hate rehanging doors.
On the less thundering side, Bongo you might have a future on a TV remodeling / redecorating show?

    • Bongo

Karen, I’ll have to look for an agent for that TV show. I like that idea.

Hi Bongo….That was some storm you guys had there….You were probably shaking like a leaf…:-(
Thunder and Lightning are sooo Scary. However, it was sure nice of your person to bring you to church….Did you learn anything???

Penny, I really do shake when it thunders. But I think I’m ready with some more Bible stories after being at church.

  14. Lola

    July 16, 2012 at 3:26 pm

Storms make me crazy, too. Even the suggestion of a storm is enough. I know it’s hard to sit still and be quiet when there are people around, but it’s better than being left at home alone. I have a pal who learned how to be a service dog. She didn’t pass the test, so she’s a family dog instead of a working dog, but one of the hardest jobs she learned was “go in,” which means she has to lie down and wait for instructions. It isn’t easy, but I bet you can learn to do it.

    • Bongo

      July 17, 2012 at 9:59 pm

Lola, I have a really hard time staying still when there’s people around who should be giving me loves or playing with me. But I’ll do anything to avoid being left alone when there’s thunder.

Maybe since you were so good at church you can go back–like when the kids are there.

Patricia, that would be the best to get to go to church when the kids are there.

Bongo, distracting yourself with interior decoration during a thunderstorm is probably not a good idea! Wonderful photo of you at the end of the post!

      July 17, 2012 at 10:02 pm

Thanks Bassa. My person doesn’t seem to like my interior decorating either. I’m not sure why.

Nice decorating but I can see where your person may not have appreciated it! I blame those pesky storms. I love the photo of you with your persons friends, and don’t give up on church maybe your person will take you again and let you get all the lovins you want 🙂

    • Bongo

      July 17, 2012 at 10:03 pm

Misty Shores, I do hope I get to go get more loves at church – but at least I got lots of loves on my trails tonight.

Dalton, I guess if my person was really upset with me she wouldn’t have taken me to church.

I got stuck in the bathroom once and made a very pretty pattern on the door. Luckily my daddy didn’t make me go to church! You poor thing!

    • Bongo

      July 17, 2012 at 10:11 pm

Misaki, getting stuck in the bathroom must be about as bad as thunder. I wouldn’t have minded church so much if I could have gotten more loves.

  23. eripanwkevin

    July 17, 2012 at 2:53 am

Wow…..you did make the pattern all by yourself? Hmmmm….very artistic….I used to make several patterns in everywhere in our house that made mom and the other humans so angry….but in your case, it was not your fault, Bongo! It was thunder’s fault!!!! 🙂

    • Bongo

      July 17, 2012 at 10:11 pm

Kevin, that really was the thunder’s fault, wasn’t it?

    July 17, 2012 at 8:36 am

Oh Bongo! Did you really do that to the door? That’s a pretty determined effort. I’m glad your person came home and got you, even if it did mean you had to sit quietly. I’m sorry you find thunderstorms so scary. 😦

    • Bongo

      July 17, 2012 at 10:13 pm

Flo, my person says she came home as soon as she heard thunder but I had already decorated the door. She says she didn’t expect us to get a storm so early in the day.

Well, Bongo, there are some positive things in this story; at least you’re not hurt, and you’ve been to church which you’d never expected, and you know now that you don’t like just to sit in church quietly… but I think you’ve got lots of love at the end 😉

    • Bongo

      July 18, 2012 at 9:15 pm

Angels Whisper, my younger person doesn’t like to sit in church quietly either but he doesn’t like all the loves – so I guess I’ll take his too.
