Prickly Pear FruitHey person, what are you doing with those prickly pear fruits on my blog?

You’re what!? You’re making bread with them. Since when is this a cooking blog?

Cut Prickly Pear Fruit

Person, this is going a little too far. I can see if you were making dog treats maybe. That could go on my blog. But prickly pear bread? Those prickly pear fruits don’t even smell appetizing.

Throw those prickly pears in the garbage and start making me some dog treats.

Wait a minute. What’s that pink stuff you’ve got there? Did Scratchy do that? Let me have a look.

Pink Bread Dough

You’re putting that in the oven? What about the dog treats?

***

Hey, that stuff is starting to smell good.

Pink Prickly Pear Bread

You mean I get to eat some of this?

Bongo Getting Bread

Bongo being handed a piece of bread

Hey person, you’ve got some more prickly pear fruits left. What are you going to make next?

Sweet Kitten, food is good. As long as I get to eat some of it I don’t mind if it goes on my blog.

Never heard of making break with prickly pears. Interesting. Does it taste good? Is it a sweet tasting bread? Very curious here.

Susan, the bread is good but the recipe my person used only has a little honey and isn’t very sweet. My person says if she does something with prickly pears again she probably won’t make bread. It uses the chunks and most other recipes she found use the juice. The fruit has tons of seeds. They’re very little and hard and it’s almost impossible to get every one of them out of the chunks of fruit. She’s afraid someone might break a tooth on one.

Alex and Penny, that bread is good, but my person says she would have like it sweeter. Next time she’ll know.

Karen, my person says she can buy prickly pear candy and jelly at the tourist shops around here, so she tried something else. I’m still waiting for the dog cookies though.

Those pears look very strange I wouldn’t have know you could eat them. The bread looked great, did it taste good??

      September 14, 2012 at 12:04 am

Lexie and Mica, you’ve got to make sure you get all the pricklers off those pears before you eat them, but they made some good bread.

*drools drools* The prickly pear bread looks very yummy! and the fruit itself seems to be delicious, too! Does it taste like what? a little bit sour? or sweet? How does it smell before baking and after?
Prickly pear looks like dragon fruit except the color of pulp as dragon fruit’s is white.
very curious about the taste! 🙂
*whisper* How did sorbe taste, Bongo? Woof?

    • Bongo

      September 14, 2012 at 11:47 am

Kevin, all that prickly pear stuff was really good, but the prickly pears themselves don’t seem to have a lot of flavor. I could taste the other stuff – orange juice in the bread and peaches and honey in the sorbet – more.

This is wonderful news, Bongo, and love your mug face doing the taste test! I bet you would be a great food reviewer…:)

How does prickly pear tastes? 😮

    • Bongo

      September 14, 2012 at 11:49 am

Dianda, the prickly pear fruit doesn’t have a lot of flavor by itself. I could taste the other things in the bread more.

Zen and Genki, I guess there is an advantage to letting my person put her baking stuff on my blog. Otherwise I’d probably never get a sample. And it was good.
