The No Sign

30 Mar

Bongo ignoring a No Trespassing signWhen I take my person through the dry wash on my trails we come to a place that has signs on the trees. That first word on the sign is “No” and I know what that means. I have no idea what the second word means. It’s one of those big words that people use that doesn’t make sense to me.

But I already know that I don’t like that word No. I hear that word too much at home when I’d rather hear Yes. Just once I’d like to hear, “Yes, you can eat the cat food that Scratchy left,” or “Yes, it’s okay to hang out on the couch,” but no, I never hear those things.

Since I don’t like the first word on that sign, the other word is probably bad too. So I’m ignoring it.

.

.

But my person says I’m not allowed to go past those signs. She says the other side of those trees is no longer my trails and it’s someone’s private property.

I don’t get it. It looks like my trails to me. There’s a house way up on a hill, but there’s nothing down here.

Don’t those people realize that these are my trails and they’re lucky that I don’t bring all my dog friends and have a party here?

But my person seems to think I should honor those signs. She, of all people should realize that these are my trails.

Since I can’t convince my person and she won’t let me go past those signs, I’ll just handle it another way.

See who gets the last word in now.

Bongo, it looks like humans don’t get you can’t really own land – just be stewards of it while it’s in your care?
(Still, maybe a really shy little dog lives in that house and visitors make it nervous…no need to cause anything to worry if you don’t have to)

Karen, maybe I need to encourage that shy little dog to come out and play. I bet any dog would love my wash – signs or not.

Love your response Bongo! Hoomins have such weird rules…I always used to visit the house next door and then we got new, mean neighbors who don’t like dogs (?!?) and they yelled when all I was doing was coming over to say Hello…I don’t go there anymore but I may have to stop by and respond the same way you did 😉

Gizmo, how could anyone not like dogs? I think you’re right. You should respond the way I did.

Goods for you Bongo, exactly the way to make a protest. Such a pity humans take over places that should be left for everyone. Now you have to get your human to find yet more trails for you lol

Susan, I keep trying to take my person on different trails and she keeps telling me we don’t have time. Maybe someday she’ll have more time and we can go exploring.

Oh, Bongo, I have the opposite problem. I understand the second word: “Trespassers” is short for Trespassers William, that is, for Piglet’s grandfather’s name (Piglet is the best friend of Winnie-the-Pooh, you surely know them). But what does NO mean here? Did he move away and lives no longer in that house?

Kolytyi, I had to get my person to tell me who Piglet and Winnie-the-Pooh are but she says she knows them. Maybe Trespassers William did move away. I’d better go looking for him.

Ah, you’ve handled that just right, Bongo!!!!
I must admit that the second word is even more incomprehensible that the “No” word to me too!
What can I say Bongo, people think they are owners …but you know better huh?!
    🙂
