Today is May Day, and even though we didn’t get much in the way of April showers we still got May flowers. I told my person I would do a flower post special for her for May Day.
See, I’m nice to her sometimes.
We get these orange flowers almost every spring and summer here, but for some reason last year they didn’t show up. I think they didn’t like our unseasonably late April snow dump. All we saw were one or two little orange blossoms all summer.
But this year they’re back out again, and I think even more of them are coming out to make up for last year. They’re called Globe Mallow.
This is what the plants look like.
Here’s a sprig to put in your May Day basket.
But this next globe mallow really decided to outdo the others.
It became a hat for this prickly pear cactus.
Oh yeah, I just remembered. Isn’t there supposed to be a May Pole or something?
Guess I’ll just wind my leash around my person. I don’t see any other poles around here. She’ll have to do.

Benny & Lily, most of the flowers around here seem to do fine without the rain. I guess they’re special Arizona varieties.

Ooooohhh!!! I always wondered what those were called! I saw a few of them about 3 weeks ago! They are dead and dry now.
Good idea on making your human a living May Pole!

Blueberry’s human, the globe mallow usually bloom most of the summer around here. I guess because it’s not quite as hot as where you are. Guess I’d better go unwrap my person now.

Don’t forget Mother’s Day on Sunday Bongo. Be very good so Mom can have a special day. As usual our weather (beautiful now) will be in the 50’s with rain out day. Happens every year never can figure out how Mother Nature know its Mother’s Day but its ALWAYS lousy. So you have a great one for us 🙂

Lexie and Mica, you mean there’s another day I have to be nice to my person? Guess I’ll take her for a nice, long walk. If you have rain that day you can stay in and cuddle with your mom all day.

Thanks BZ. I’ll try to be careful when I wrap my leash around my person. I wouldn’t want to have to pull a bunch of pricklers out of her.

Kevin, I guess I really am lucky. My person says she used to have a big globe mallow plant in the back yard, but it was taken out when the fence was put in so they could get me. I guess that’s one reason I have to take my person on my trails now – so she can see these.
