What’s that Smell?

07 Jun

Bongo in front of a Brownfoot plantI don’t get it! I just don’t get it.

People are so strange sometimes.

One of the best things on my walks are the great smells I find. I look forward to checking my messages and finding out what my dog buddies are up to.

But my person is so impatient. She’s always yanking on my leash and making me leave a great smell before I’ve finished with it.

I don’t know how many times she’s done that.

It’s so frustrating!

But I put up with it because I’m such a good dog. If my person wants to walk instead of sniff stuff, I can go along with it – as long as I at least get a little sniffing in.

But here’s the funny part.

We walked past this bush.

Brownfoot plant

It didn’t have any kind of special smells on it – no messages from my friends or anything.

So I walked on by.

And you know what happened?

My person stopped and she wanted to smell this thing.

Brownfoot flower

She’s never stopped to smell anything ever before.

Why now? Why these flowers?

I’m going to have to give my person some lessons in what to smell.

Brownfoot flower

I think she’s really confused.

And if she doesn’t get it…

Bongo in front of a brownfoot plant

I might have to yank on the leash and pull her down the trail.

Bongo, humans don’t have sensitive noses. We only smell the really strong stuff. You’ll have to just understand this and let her stop when she can actually smell something. Sometimes we sacrifice for those we love.

FleaByte, I’m just not sure what my person was smelling. She says it smelled good, but I couldn’t smell anything good. I don’t get it.

Moms have no patience for our smells, B. My mom says the word, “Let’s go.” a million times on our walks. Those flowers must’ve been pretty special to get your person sniffing!

Cupcake, my person says it’s the best smell she’s found on my trails but I couldn’t smell anything good at all.

Benny & Lily, that’s got to be it. I wish my person would get down and smell. I like knocking her over.

Maybe your person is jealous because she can’t leave messages on the trail like you can.

Patricia, that’s got to be it. She probably only pretended she liked that smell.

My mom, too…she always yanks on my leash whenever I sniff messages, besides if I lick them, she shout at me!!!
Those flowers are so pretty and intersting especially if we look at them closely.
I’ve never seen them here. I’m wodering what types of smell the flower is!!!

Kevin, my person says they smell like a really sweet perfume. I guess I don’t like the smell of perfume. She found a picture of them online and found out the name of the flower is brownfoot. She says it doesn’t seem like the name fits the smell, but it has to do with the old leaves that turn brown and the new plant coming up from the foot of them or something.

Little Binky, I guess the tops of those flowers are kind of high for me – but wait a minute, if they’re that high then none of my friends can leave messages there.

Oh Bongo, you should not forget that humans have strongly reduced senses. Your person might have been able to notice the smell of those nice little flowers because she also got some visual aid (namely, their beauty) from them.

Kolytyi, people are so unlucky that they have trouble smelling all the great things on my trails. I’m not sure about those flowers though.
