Thunder Ride

03 Jul

Bongo looking scared in the carToday was a good and bad day.

It was bad because thunder season has officially begun and I am deathly afraid of thunder. It’s not good. It’s evil. I’m sure it’s some kind of monster coming out of the sky to get me.

So I was cowering in the hallway while the thunder was going on, but at least my person was in the house with me and nothing bad has ever happened with the thunder while she’s been here.

Still, it’s scary.

But then my person tried to go out the front door.

I thought I had her trained not to do that. When I’m left alone in thunder I try to escape it by any means possible.

I guess I was right. I do have her trained.

Because my person got my leash and took me out to the car.

Through the thunder.

It was pretty awful, but at least my person was with me.

So we rode in the car for awhile until it stopped and I had to get out.

In the thunder.

Person, you know I’m really brave doing this for you. We could have just stayed home.

But you know where we went to?

My person took me to church.

Bongo in church

And there were all kinds of books full of stories.

No wonder my person never runs out of stories to tell me.

I’m going to have to get her to take me to church more often.

Wait! On second thought, I’d better check first and make sure it doesn’t thunder at church all the time.

My grandmother told me that thunder was angels bowling. Maybe you should ask them at church if that’s what happens? 😀

Jen, I wonder if the church could put a word in to those angels to bowl more quietly.

It was great for Mom to take you with her instead of leaving you alone with that thunder. We will not even get in the car during thunder !!

Lexie and Mica, I won’t let my person leave the house without me during thunder. But she’s also afraid of what I might do to the house if I’m left alone during thunder.

Lexie tries to get out and hurts herself if left alone during thunder. Are you very close to the fire?

The fire is about 100 miles from us. We got a little rain yesterday so hopefully we won’t get any fires starting around here.

Emily, I’m glad someone else understands me. The thunder monster is horrible!

Bongo, I’m happy you weren’t alone during the thunder. Have you purrayed in church for rain?

      July 3, 2013 at 11:39 pm

Little Binky, I was purraying almost the whole time I was in church. And you know what? It started raining about the time we had to leave the church.

You are a lucky dog going to church. It looks very peaceful in that place. I hope the thunder goes away quickly and some rain comes quietly instead.

Cupcake, we got some rain yesterday and then it stopped so my person and I went out for a walk. Then when we got out a ways on the trail it started raining and thundering. At least today there wasn’t much thunder.

Oh, you do have her well trained! I’ll try to have a word with mr thunder, see if he can soften his sounds a bit. Maybe if we promised him some fish, he’d listen! At least take comfort from the fact that rain helps with those awful fires! Be brave! 🙂

Marina, I sure would appreciate it if you’d talk with Mr. Thunder. I don’t know why he has to be so loud. I think he might need more than fish though. Maybe we could stuff one of those big clouds in his mouth.

Mollie and Alfie, at least the fireworks aren’t close enough for me to hear them here, but the thunder goes everywhere around here.

My heart goes out to you, our lab, AJ, was terrified of storms and would shake violently. If he was alone, he wreak destruction on everything. Have you tried the Thunder Shirt? I’ve heard good things about it. AJ died before we could try it on him. Good luck to you.

Susan, AJ and I are a lot the same when it comes to thunder. My person puts an Anxiety Vest on me, which is the same idea as the Thunder Shirt. It helps calm me some, but not enough.

Dalton, I guess there’s some advantages to that horrible thunder. I get to go places I might not otherwise go.

You should go to church more, typists dad used to preach and he did a brilliant sermon about how dogs behave and we should behave in the same way, and as it was aimed at kids he brought in her cairn! He got to go and meet everyone and run riot whilst he preached!

Dalton, that sounds like a great idea. I’m going to push for my person to preach a sermon on dogs and bring me. She teaches kids so that would be the best. All those kids to give me loves.

We’ve had a lot of thunder here too Bongo & I’m with you – thunder’s scary & bad & did I say scary? Now Diane tells me that we’re going to have something that sounds like thunder tonight but it’s not really thunder! Don’t people do the craziest things Bongo – making thunder at night when you don’t have real thunder? And not only that but all the different towns are making thunder on different nights! Crazy Bongo – crazy…Lola.

Lola, I can never figure people out. Why would they make thunder on purpose. I’m lucky that the thunder they make isn’t close enough to our house for me to hear it. And it’s so dry here that nobody is supposed to make their own thunder.

Kolytyi, I think I may get to go lots of extra places in the next couple of months. I’m not sure if it’s worth it though – having to put up with all that thunder.

Misty Shores, it was really fun going to church. I just wish it didn’t have to thunder for me to get to go there.

How cool! You got to go to church! You know some of us collies are afraid of thunder too. But, dad told us a story about the Thunder. He said that in the old days the Indians claimed it was the Thunderbirds and they brought the lightning and struck down evil ppl with it and the thunder was their warning to tell everyone to be good or God would send them again…. so, you are a good guy Bongo you have nothing to worry about. Now, if I Ginger can get those T-Birds on mys side….

Ginger, my person said sometimes the Thunderbirds appear as big jets and all you have to do is get the leader on your side and the rest will follow. She also says I’d better be good all the time.
