What’s a Deer?

24 Aug

Bongo pawing the groundWhat’s a deer?

My person and I met someone coming off my trails, and she said she’d seen a deer.

I’ve never ever seen a deer. Never in my life.

Deer don’t hang out on my trails.

If they did I’m sure I would have found one.

So what was that deer doing here?

I’ve got to go find that deer.

But how would I recognize it if I saw it?

Maybe by the smell – because it would be the only new smell on my trails.

So let’s go person. That deer’s got to be around here somewhere.

                                                 ***

I looked all over for that deer.

I pawed the ground and everything, but nothing would bring that deer around.

And then you know what happened?

My person and my younger person left the house and drove away.

Without me, mind you.

It was dark when they came back home, and you know what they told me?

They drove right by that deer. It was right by the side of the road.

And I’ve still never seen a deer.

But from what I’ve heard about what a deer looks like…

Bongo with antlers

I imagine it might look kind of like this.

    mmmmm! something like that!
A deer is a large animal(bigger than a dog) …with a lovely smooth coat (just like you)…. with tender loving eyes( just like you)…. who uses his nose for smells( just like you)….who is gentle( just like you), and kind ( just like you).
But he will not play ball! ( just like your young visitor)

    I think you look smashing!!!!

Thanks Patrecia. But if a deer won’t play ball, I guess it doesn’t matter if I see one or not.

Oh, Bongo!!! 😆 That photo, those antlers… which reminds me, it’s been some time since I saw you munching an antler! Maybe a good reward after leaving you home alone?! 🙂

Marina, I’m sending my person to the pet store right now. My last antler got small and then it disappeared. I think Scratchy must have shoved it under the couch.

Oh, sweet Bongo with those antlers and those gorgeous eyes one might mistake you for a deer. You are adorable in the antlers. Hugs and nose kisses

I think you’ve got the right look, B. That’s pretty much what a deer looks like. I’ve never seen one either, but in the winter, Mom makes me wear a fleece jacket that looks like a deer. Embarrassing.

    Love and licks,

Cupcake, I guess we could both pretend to be deer together. Maybe a real one will show up and we’ll both see what they look like.

Deer are very beautiful but also very shy so they won’t play with you or stick around for friendly sniffs.

Patricia, I guess that’s why I’ve never seen a deer. They don’t stick around long enough.

You look great with those antlers, Bongo! My mom has a hair band shaped antlers made with felt and sometimes tries to put it on me….because she says our faces, deer and dog, are very similar except those antlers, so she teases me with them…*sigh*
Wow, a deer on your trails! Maybe someday, you might come across him/she, Bongo! So cool! 🙂

Kevin, I sure hope I find that deer someday. My person says deer are not usually on my trails because there is no water there. They usually hang out closer to the creek and I hardly ever get to go there. My person was threatening to put some of those deer antlers on me, except I lucked out because she doesn’t have any.

Penny, I really have to put up with a lot around here. But I’ll make my people pay for it.

We have them on our trails and streets all the time. We just look at each other then continue our walk. There are so many we see them all the time so it’s nothing unusual. We will half to try to take a picture of one for you . They do not really like pictures:(

Lexie and Mica, I’m glad to know they really exist. I was beginning to wonder. You can’t always trust people to tell you the truth.

Little Binky, maybe a girl deer will come after me, thinking I’m a boy deer. Woo woo! I might get a deer girlfriend too.

Ginger, if you send me a picture I’ll give you some antlers. Come to think of it – I need another antler to chew on. Mine’s all gone.
