National Dress Up Your Pet Day

14 Jan

Scratchy in a T-shirtToday is a really special holiday. At least I think it’s a special holiday.

It’s National Dress Up Your Pet Day.

I got all excited until I realized – I don’t have any pets.

So I did the next best thing.

I decided that Scratchy would be my pet for the day.

That way I could dress him up any way I wanted.

But then I had another problem.

My people are way bigger than Scratchy.

How am I ever going to find something to dress him in?

Then I had an idea.

My younger person doesn’t clean out his closet very often.

So I snuck in there – don’t you dare tell him – I would get in real trouble – I’m not supposed to even be in his room. I don’t know why he has a problem with my hair.

He has hair.

So anyway, I went through his closet and I found it.

A very small shirt that he had decorated when he was little.

And I put it on Scratchy.

Scratchy started to step right out of that shirt.

And the decorations didn’t even show.

So I decorated him with a bow.

And then you know what Scratchy did?

I’m telling too.

Because he went right into my younger person’s closet.

And then he dressed me up as a Cub Scout.

I couldn’t stop him. He threatened me with his claws.

I would be scared of Scratchy claws too. To be fair though, you are one cute cub scout!

Thanks Kimberly. I wonder if the other Cub Scouts will give me loves. Oh, and Scratchy’s claws are nasty.

Awwww. You both look like slaves to fashion. So fancy! I don’t have any pets either since Leave-the-Turtle-Alone moved away, but I predict Mom will dress me up to celebrate when she gets home.

    Love and licks,

Bongo, Bailey says you did a great job with Scratchy’s outfit, that was really funny. All cats should were bows at all times LOL

Bailey, I agree with you about cats and bows but I can’t seem to get Scratchy to keep his head still.

Only the USA could think of something like National Dress up Your Pet Day..funny lot! However I thought Scratchy looked rather sweet with a silver bow in his hair and you looked quite suave as scout…but if your younger person ever finds out, he would certainly give you what for

Good thinking sweet Bongo and you are looking mighty sharp dressed up in your younger person’s shirt. Scratchy was a real trooper and looks cute, there is no way any of the cats here would sit still to be dressed. Hugs and nose kisses

Chancy and Mumsy, I’m not sure how I got Scratchy to sit still. I guess he was in one of his favorite spots and he wasn’t moving for anything.

The weekly writing assignment for my students is National Dress up you Pet Day from your pet’s point of view. The kids can take a picture of their dressed up pet or if parents are really brave, bring them in. It’s one of my favorite writing assignments. Can’t say the same for the pets!

Glenda, I’m sure glad you give those pets a chance to say how they feel. It sounds like a fun assignment.

Dalton, I’ll have to tell Scratchy he needs to keep that bow on.

Little Binky, I can’t imagine who would want to marry Scratchy. He can be downright mean at times.

You make a terrific scout Bongo but I have to say that Scratchy doesn’t look too happy about this special event. That’s ok, Moe doesn’t like that stuff either.
