There is a lot of prickly pear cactus on my trails.
Most of the time if you stay away from the cactus, it will stay away from you.
That’s how we get along, that cactus and I.
All winter that cactus sits around and doesn’t do much of anything – except maybe get eaten by javelina.
But in the spring the prickly pear has blossoms.
They’re not quite here yet.
.
.
And it will be bad when they do come out because my person will stop and take all kinds of pictures of them.
Hey wait a minute!
The prickly pear around here don’t have pink blossoms.
What’s going on?
If I were a pink flower I would not be growing there.
They must be stuck.
***
But back to the prickly pear.
In the fall they have fruit.
Big, red, juicy fruit.
Like pears with prickles.
But I found this one prickly pear that doesn’t seem to know what time of year it is.
Or maybe this prickly pear is trying to be my friend.
No flower pictures.
This one cut right to the fruit.

I still wouldn’t get too close to that cacti Bongo, it might be in a bad mood and spike you! But that is one confused, but friendly pear. 🙂

Epicaldragon, as long as that cactus doesn’t have flowers on it for my person to take pictures of, it’s alright in my book.

I believe it is trying to be your friend… but better keep your distance. You can exchange letters with it – much safer! 😉

Marina, good idea. I don’t even leave messages on those things.

Those prickly pears may have flowers and they may have fruit but sure as heck they definitely got big prickles. Now do yourself a favor and don, t try leaving messages to your friends on these pears.

Patrecia, my friends and I have a deal with those cacti. Nobody leaves messages there and they don’t stick us.

Very wise I would say, otherwise you could prickle your nose

Those things look wicked sharp, B. Don’t try licking the fruit unless your tongue has a really good aim….
Love and licks,

Cupcake, the fruit has pricklers too. I’m staying away from it all.

Good advice there Bongo – you keep your distance from that friend & he will be a good friend to you.

Diane, now I’ve just got to convince my person to keep her camera at a distance from them.

Poor cactus….because these days, the weather over the world is very strange…..so the prickly pear must have been not sure when he/she comes out…

Kevin, I think a lot of stuff around here is confused. While most of the world was getting extra winter this year, we weren’t getting any.
