Almost Up the Chimney

15 Oct

My person totally confused me today. Normally when we go for a walk we make a big loop – going out on one trail and back home on another. Today we got to the place where we usually turn around and go back – but we didn’t go back. My person took me on a trail I’ve never been on before and we kept walking further away from our house. I wasn’t sure what to think, but it was fun finding new smells. My person likes to drag me along when I’ve stopped for a good smell, but this time I kept trying to drag her more than she was dragging me. She kept stopping and getting her camera out. I’d be walking along and suddenly come to the end of my leash.

My person took me to a rock called Chimney Rock. You can probably figure out why it’s called that.

Chimney Rock

To get there we had to walk through some dry washes. They only have water in them when it rains.

Bongo in a Dry Wash

When we got around the side of Chimney Rock it looked different. Instead of one big rock it looked like three.

Chimney Rock from the Side

We got to the top of the trail and it went back down the other side, so we stopped and rested before coming back the way we’d gone up. Someone was nice enough to leave a stick up there for me. I tried to get my person to throw it so I could go after it, but she said I might fall down the steep hill. I couldn’t convince her otherwise.

My person kept stalling on the way home – getting her camera out for more pictures.

It’s a good thing they had the trail marked. I could find it by the smell, but I think my person might have gotten lost.

I guess It was good my person took her time, or we wouldn’t have seen this.

That looks like a really great trail. New places are always very exciting for me, too. My person says to tell your person that she loved the beautiful pictures and can’t wait to visit Sedona again.

Thanks Lola. Maybe we can hit the trails together next time you’re in Sedona.

Rumpy, I agree. My person tries to copy God’s work in her watercolors sometimes, but she’s no match for God.

Love that last photo. What a stunning view and what luck that you were there to catch it in the right light.

Thanks – for some reason the gorgeous sunsets have been rare this year – so I was lucky to have my camera with me for this one.

Deannamelanie – it was a very fun day. It gets dark so quickly here that it’s easy to get different lighting effects in a short time.

Your person is so much like my tall person. He is always stopping to photograph something interesting! Beautiful photos. You are so lucky to live in such a beautiful area.

Bassa, I guess we have to have patience when our people stop for pictures. At least it gives us more time to smell things. My person says thanks for the comment about the photos. It is beautiful here, but not nearly as interesting as where you live.

Wow! It looks like the scenery in the old western films that my dad watches sometimes. It certainly makes my fields look a bit dull. You’re so lucky!

Bones, tell your dad that they used to make lots of westerns in Sedona where I live. It is a pretty place.

I think I might actually enjoy getting up each morning if I had that view!

The view does make it easier to get up. What’s really special is the way it changes with different lighting and weather.

Mumsy, thanks – you make me blush. At least no one can see it through my hair. We had a fun hike.

I knew I recognized that! Sedona! You’re in the next state over, Bongo! What a gorgeous place you live in. So pretty and thank your mommy for the great photos. Sorry she made you stop so much, but for us on the Internet, it’s nice to see such a pretty place. Glad you found the stick!

Katie, My person says thanks, and it’s her pleasure to share the photos. It was really strange when she kept making me stop. Usually she drags me but it was the other way around this time. Yeah, that stick was really great. Best part of the hike for me.

hi Bongo…wow great pictures and it looks like you have fun exploring the trails of Chimney Rock…you’re like my pet Princess; she gives me that please-focus-on-the-walk look and drags me when I take snapshots too long… glad to find you via Saturday Pet Blogger Hop…

Princess seems like a very smart dog. Walks are for us so our people should only stop when we want to stop. Thanks for stopping by my blog.
