I saw a dead mouse on my walk today. I tried to get my person to take a picture of it, but she wouldn’t do it. She said nobody would want to see a picture of a dead mouse. I don’t know why. I thought it was pretty interesting.
I’ve never seen a dead mouse before, or any kind of dead animal for that matter. My person says that they don’t stick around that way for long because somebody eats them. I wouldn’t have minded checking it out, but once my person saw it she made me leave.
I wonder why it hadn’t been eaten yet. Maybe a coyote caught it but a bear chased the coyote and the coyote dropped it. Maybe it was trampled by a herd of javelina. Maybe a hawk caught it, but an eagle tried to get it from the hawk and the hawk dropped it. Maybe it died of old age and nobody had discovered the new meat market yet.
I guess I’ll never know why that mouse was still there. I bet I know one thing though. I won’t find it there tomorrow.

We are glad you didn’t eat that mouse sweet Bongo. It could have died from poison and it would not be good for any four-legged to eat it if that is the case. We like the drawing of the mouse, did your person draw it? Hugs and nose kisses

Mumsy – Wow, I didn’t even think of poison. That would be really bad to eat, wouldn’t it. I made my person draw that picture of the mouse since she wouldn’t take a real picture. Hugs and nose kisses back to you.

I’m sure Bongo will check to see if he can find it when we go on our walk today.

We have mice and rats and gophers in our yard. Sometimes they are running and I go after them. I’m pretty fast, so I catch a lot. I don’t ever want to eat them, so I’m not sure why I chase them. It’s just something I have to do.

Lola, chasing things is just so much fun. I like to chase cats especially, but I don’t know what I’d do if I caught one. I’d never hurt them. Usually my person only lets me get to the end of my leash though. Scratchy’s no fun because he won’t run for me.

we haven’t yet come across a mouse, but we came across a dead rabbit one day – and it was pretty much the size of Nala!

Nala, sounds like you guys found a real treasure. My person doesn’t even like me finding live rabbits. She’s afraid I’ll yank her arm off if I try to chase them.

Mumsy is right Bongo – keep clear of dead animals in case they have been poisoned. I saw a dead toad today. It had been squashed flat by a car 😦

Bassa, my person told me a story about a friend of hers who rescues snakes from people’s yards. He said a couple of the snakes he rescued died because they’d eaten poisoned mice. I guess I’d better watch what I eat.

Bongo, you have the best imagination! And I bet from now on, you will be checking that spot out to see if there’s something dead and yummy there. You dogs have the best memories. I’m like your mom with dead things and rabbits too. My Boxer girl (she says hi and would love to play!) has to sit her cute little butt down when a rabbit crosses our path. 🙂 She doesn’t think that’s fun either. And my kitty would love for you to chase him. It’s his favorite game. 🙂

Katie, nothing but sand was in that spot yesterday. I would love to chase your kitty – he really likes it? – and play with your boxer. I love making blogging animal friends.

Hi Bongo,
I’m glad you didn’t eat that mouse, either. Hope it wasn’t poisoned because it would make a wonderful meal for an owl or cat.
Thanks for visiting and commenting on my Drive-By Photos blog. Sounds like we may have passed through your area – just didn’t realize it at the time. =) Sure is pretty there.

Lindy, the mouse had teeth or claw marks so it probably wasn’t poisoned and someone got a good meal. I checked, it wasn’t there the next day. It is really pretty here. My person sometimes takes lots of pictures and posts them on my blog. I make sure she puts me in some of the pictures.

We have a cat that seems to find great pleasure in bringing rodent carcasses to our back porch. They are fresh, revealing she most likely did them in. But once the hunt is over she shows no inclination to want to eat them. I guess she’s just showing off her hunting prowess.

Richard, my person says she once had a cat that brought a live mouse in the house. I guess she wanted to toy with it for awhile. I wish I’d been here then. That would have been exciting.
