I can’t believe my person did it. She took me for a walk in the rain. She could have just stayed at home in the nice warm house and hung out on the computer helping me write my blog – but no, she took me for a walk.
Well, I’m game pretty much anytime but this time it wasn’t quite fair. After all, my person has a jacket with a hood on it and her hair stayed dry. I ended up a little on the damp side by the time our walk was over.
It was a pretty cool walk though. I found lots and lots of slippery, slimy, squishy mud – it kind of reminded me of my slobber – about the same consistency (did I say that word – consistency?) Okay person, stop interjecting with words that I don’t even know what they mean.
Our walk out in the mud and the rain was a little quieter than usual. I could hear the slurping sound of the mud every time I put one of my feet in it but something was missing. We didn’t see one other person or dog on the trail today. Not one. Just a few robins and that was it. I guess all those other people were home on their computers practicing their writing and hoping I’ll let them help me with my blog someday.
Yesterday I was interviewed on the Love of My Dogs blog. I put the link up late so I thought I’d add it again in case any of you missed it.

Hi Bongo, the German here. I had to get out in the rain too many times at work, so if they open the door and it’s drippy now – I pretend to be a sleeping for a very long time. Rainy weather always meant having to stand, get toweled and even had to get my paws checked to make sure there wan’t a a bunch of dirt clods stuck there. Too much fussing. Silly people: a few hard shakes gets you dry enough! Bounce on, Bongo!
Bongo
January 23, 2012 at 11:13 am
German, I agree that all it takes to get dry enough is a few hard shakes. That’s a good idea pretending to sleep if you don’t want to go out. I usually want to go out any time my person will take me – unless it’s thundering.

Winsomebella, it sounds like Rosie knows how to have fun – and has the smells to show it.

Bongo, I read your interview & I hope the anxiety vest helps you during the thunderstorms… Does it fit nicely & comfortable??
My Marley sure could’ve used one of those vests last night. January in the Chicago area & we had some pretty bad thunder storms with lots of lightning. Marley was so upset & even his fur on his ears were standing straight up! (I was told it was from all the electricity in the air – scary).

January 23, 2012 at 11:47 am
Jaxart4animals, I got to wear the Anxiety Vest during a couple storms and it seemed to help. One of the storms was really loud where my person was and I didn’t destroy anything – but I don’t remember how loud it was here. The real test will probably be next July and August when we get most of our thunderstorms here. It actually feels pretty good to wear, but my person sometimes struggles to get it on right. I think Marley would like one.

You’re probably right about that. I think I’ll get him an anxiety vest for his birthday! (along with some new toys of course)

Jaxart4animals, my person found the Anxiety Vest on Amazon.com if that helps. There were other brands too, but the customer reviews looked best on this one.

You wimp Bongo..worrying about getting wet..one good shake and all the wet has gone, also you have the fun of shaking all over a dry person.
Whilst you were out did you find your puddle?
Bongo
January 23, 2012 at 1:05 pm
Patreciau, it is fun shaking and getting my person wet – and yes, my puddle showed up again. I hope it sticks around this time.

I love walking in the rain. My person didn’t take me today, though. I guess I’ll just have to go out in the yard and get wet by myself.

Lola, it’s cold and threatening rain here. I think the weather came over from your house. I hope I can get my person to take me out anyway. We usually go out later in the day.

Walking in the rain is great though! It’s peaceful and it makes coming into the warm house that much better!

Patches, a warm house is awfully nice after being outside on a cold, rainy day. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Alfie, I agree – water is best for swimming. I hope my people will take me swimming again soon.

Hey Bongo,
I saw your interview – it was really cool buddy!!
Isn’t it fun in the rain?! I went today with Cosmo and my Mum, there’s no way I let Mum have a day off from running just because of a little rain!! Tee Hee
Have fun,
Your pal Snoopy 🙂

Hey Snoopy, thanks. I had fun doing that interview. I’m pretty much a water dog, which is kind of strange living in Arizona – but I love water any way I can get it.

We have rain here too. But we should be having snow. What happened to all of our snow. Do you think someone stole it?

Bongo

Brown Dawgs, I think those people in Seattle stole your snow. They’re having way more than they usually get. We had a couple flakes here today but we usually only get a little snow each winter.

Loved the interview, Bongo. Wonder what Wonderbutt would think of a walk in the rain?

Thanks Wonderbutt’s person. I think Wonderbutt would love the rain because he could roll in the mud and then roll around when he was back in the house.

Jennifer, I have to make sure my person goes out with me because she needs her exercise. My person Googled images of a German Shorthaired Pointer. We do look a lot alike except for my tail. It’s more like a shepherd’s tail.

The rain is pouring down here, flooding in some areas and our back yard looks like a swamp but I’m hoping to get out for a short walk when it eases off a little. Bundy isn’t keen on walking in the rain but he loves the towel down he gets when we get back home. Glad to hear you’re getting out and about in the wet, having a splash around in the puddles can be lots of fun 🙂

Oh Bongo, you walked in the rain? Did you wear rain coat? I always walk in the rain without a rain coat, so I easily get wet…..I don’t like it though…. Please don’t get cold, Bongo. *pawhugs*
Bt the way, I read your interview on the Love of My Dogs blog! It was wonderful! It reminds me you don’t like thunder!!!
Bongo
January 24, 2012 at 10:23 am
Kevin, I don’t wear a raincoat either. We usually don’t go out if it’s raining really hard because my person doesn’t like it when the trails get sloppy muddy. I’m glad you liked my interview. It was fun doing it. And I’m sure glad we hardly get any thunder here this time of year. It mostly comes in July and August.

Hi Bongo!
Some of our favorite walks have been out in the rain. It can be so beautiful and peaceful hearing the pitter patter of the rain on the leaves in the trees. 🙂 Great post and we are still in awe of where you get to walk… it is stunningly beautiful!
Your friends,
The Collies and Chuck 🙂
Bongo
January 24, 2012 at 10:25 am
Collies and Chuck, my person likes walking in the rain because we get lots of little waterfalls and streams that aren’t normally there. Me, I like the mud and the puddles.

Great interview Bongo, loved it. I may ask them if they will interview me. I have a raincoat – when we get sub-tropical downpours here it really gushes down and I would never get dry!! Master and Misery think I need cosseting in my old age 😉
Bongo
January 25, 2012 at 10:02 am
Pippa, I’m glad you enjoyed the interview. It was fun doing it. I bet they’d interview you if you asked. We get downpours like yours in the summer but they don’t last long. Most of the time our winter rain is not so intense so we can go out without getting too wet.

Ewww, Bongo slobbers . . . say it’s not true! I bet you’re still cute even when you slobber. 🙂
I would say your walk in the mud was like a top $ spa mud treatment. Check out how soft and smooth your paws are now Bongo . . . hehe 🙂

I used to love the feel of mud squishing between my toes. That’s why I moved to Panama City, FL after I “grew” up. Squishy sand feels almost as good as squishy mud. Hmmm think I’ll save my money and move back to the beach…
Bongo
February 3, 2012 at 12:52 pm
Sandra, I’ve never gotten to go to the beach. Squishy sand sounds good, but my person says it’s much too far away from here to take me.
