Scratchy is the weirdest cat I know. Well, he’s the only cat I know but he’s still weird. You know what he does? He’s in love with all the nice, soft blankets around here. The kind that my person likes to use to keep warm when she’s sitting on the couch.
Scratchy must think those blankets are his mama. He grabs them in his teeth, presses his paws into them, and makes a sound somewhat resembling a purr. It’s the only time he makes anything like a purring sound.
What really gets me is when Scratchy does that on my person’s bed. When she starts moving around in the morning he finds a soft blanket that’s been exposed and starts his thing. He goes right up next to my person and does this, but if she touches him – even if she accidentally brushes against him – he gets mad and bites her.
Person, I don’t think you should tolerate this behavior from Scratchy. I’ll take care of him for you. Just give me the word.

You are so right, Bongo, Scratchy deserves a good lesson! I am quite attached to my blankets too, by the way.

Sweet Kitten, I think my person likes her blankets too, but Scratchy keeps taking them over.

Biting is a deal breaker – even for a cat. Show Scratchy what’s what, Bongo!
Bongo

Cupcake, Scratchy keeps trying to convince everyone they’re love bites – but he gives a pretty mean love bite.

Does Scratchy carry around the blankets in his mouth & drag them onto the floor and have love time with it?? Mine does… it took a few weeks to figure out how the blankets kept ending up on the floor. Then I busted him. In the Act. LOL.
Bongo
January 31, 2012 at 12:10 pm
Jaxart4animals, Scratchy leaves the blankets where they are. I wish he’d put them on the floor. Then I could lay on them without getting into trouble.

That’s cute! My cat likes soft things too, then kneads whatever it is like he was making bread. lol
Bongo
January 31, 2012 at 12:11 pm
Amy, I wish I could get Scratchy to work on some real bread dough. Then maybe when he’s finished I could eat some.

One of my pugs actually does that kneading thing like cats. And of course our cats do to. Great blog!
Bongo
January 31, 2012 at 2:31 pm
Thanks Cee. My person says she’s had lots of cats that do the kneading thing, but never with the blanket in their mouth like Scratchy does. I didn’t know that some dogs do it too.

Haha Bongo! You make me laugh every time! Now you have my youngest son running over to read your posts! Maybe you should try what Scratchy does . . . might be like a soothing massage and get you all relaxed for another day of adventures! 🙂
Bongo
January 31, 2012 at 2:33 pm
Sunshine, I’m glad your son likes my posts too. Tell him Bongo says hi. Maybe I can get Scratchy to do a massage on me – if he can keep his claws to himself, that is.

Sophie, cats sure are fun to chase. Now if I could just get Scratchy to run.

LOL Bongo, at least cats are pretty funny! I mean, who does those kinds of things?! Certainly not a dog! The cat around here gets special treatment too…our pups feel your pain 🙂

Deanna, I really am having trouble figuring out cats. I’m glad Harley, Scarlett, and Chelsea have just as much trouble. It makes me feel not so alone.

Aww bongo! My kitty does the same thing- I have this huge furry blanket, and he sucks on it an kneads on it, however he doesn’t bite me- he knows better then to bite his momma 🙂
Bongo
January 31, 2012 at 6:11 pm
Kicked Bitten and Scratched, you mean there’s another cat who does what Scratchy does? I still think Scratchy’s weird.

Bassetmomma, don’t tell anybody. It’s better if people think I don’t like Scratchy at all.

Twinkle and Cassie, that must be it. Cats are so strange they must be from another planet.

It’s true cats can be strange–but then dogs bury bones and dig them up and chew on the dirty things. Just sayin we all have our foibles…

I think your offer of help is very kind Bongo, though your assistance is probably not required. Both Fergus and George do a lot of kneading – Fergus likes towels and George like bare flesh. Owch. Fergus also does this weird thing where she kneads and bites your scalp when you’ve got wet hair. Owch owch.

Flo, I guess I’d better stay away from Fergus when I get a bath or go swimming.

Bongo, Big Binky does the same on my pillow and therefore on my head… with claws 😦 I can here him enter the bedroom, he sounds like an helicopter, but it has some profits: we don’t need an alarmclock 😀 Maby you can teach Big Binky some lessons?

Angelswhisper, send Big Binky over here. I’ll put him in his place.

My Stumpy sleeps with me, well next to me, and sometimes he does that scratching to get the covers just right…but I thinks that he knows better than to try to bite me..naughty Scratchy….
You would be a BIG BRAVE Bongo to take on a cat..them thar claws can do great harm
Bongo
February 1, 2012 at 10:54 am
Patreciau, I’ve had contact with Scratchy’s claws before. I don’t let that stop me. My person says Scratchy should have been named Bitey though. He likes his head rubbed, but if you pet him anywhere else he bites.

I do not think I would like the biting. Nestle crawls under blankets to sleep. All the way under, even in summer. Sometimes I wonder how she can breath.
Bongo
February 1, 2012 at 10:55 am
Brown Dawgs, my person says she’s had cats that slept under the covers but Scratchy will only sleep at the end of the bed. He only comes up to get the blanket when my person is starting to wake up.

OMD! Scratchy is so funny! I can tell how he loves his blankies from those pics!!! My cat brofur likes blankets, too and often he bites mom’s hand! Me, too I have to take care of him for my mama!!! BOL! 🙂

My kitty’s do not sleep with me because I have the two big dogs in the bed but my old Kitty does bite me on occasion, I call them love nips 😉

Misty Shores, I think Scratchy intends most of his to be love nips, but my person says it hurts when he does it.

Hey Bongo,
I’m glad to hear you’re looking out for your Mum Dude – Scratchy does seem to be acting a little, let’s just say ‘unfriendly’…..
Have you tried giving Scratchy a blanket of his own, maybe your Mum could donate one she doesn’t want anymore and he’ll still think it’s hers?
Good luck buddy,
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
Bongo
February 1, 2012 at 11:00 am
Snoopy, Scratchy thinks all the blankets are his – and when he’s got one everybody had better stay away – or else.

Don’t tell your person -or anyone else for that matter- but you could have fun doing the same [well, biting excluded] along with Scratchy, especially when your person goes out[!]. Blankets are very interesting cuddly things! But -as I said- don’t tell your person about it. She probably won’t like the idea!
Bongo
February 2, 2012 at 6:16 pm
Marina, when my person leaves I go cuddle up with her pillows and blankets. Somehow she always knows when I’ve done it and I can’t figure out how she can tell. I thought I put the pillows back in the right place.

February 2, 2012 at 6:38 pm
Well it looks to us sweet Bongo that you have Scratchy under control. Maybe now you and your mom can enjoy some of those blankies. Hugs and nose kisses
Bongo
February 2, 2012 at 7:01 pm
Mumsy, Scratchy doesn’t stay under control for long, but he can’t use all the blankies at the same time. My person wants me to tell you that she had to rescue your comment from her Spam box. It’s a good thing she checked there for it. Hugs and nose kisses back to you.
