Where Did it Come From?

06 Mar

Bongo's nose checking an objectHey person, look at this. I don’t think it belongs here. What is it?

It’s all mixed in with the rocks and dirt, but I think it’s made of metal. There’s not supposed to be metal on my trails. Where do you think it came from?

Do you think somebody’s jewelry fell apart and they lost this part of it here?

Oh, I know. It was one of those pack rats. They like shiny objects, don’t they? I bet a pack rat stole it and then dropped it here because it wasn’t shiny any more. See, it’s not very shiny. I thought metal was supposed to be shiny.

Do you think I should go find that pack rat and give this back to him? After all, this is littering. He shouldn’t have dropped this here.

Maybe if you shined it up person, that pack rat would want it again? Could you shine it up, person?

You will? And you know what it is? It’s a what?

It doesn’t look anything like a penny, person. I’ve seen pennies before. My younger person always leaves them lying on the counter. They’re round, person. Don’t you know anything?

It got what? Smashed in a machine?

Imprinted penny from Williams, AZ

Look at that, person. You shined it up and it says stuff. Hey, wait a minute. This penny says it’s from Williams. I don’t believe it! That pack rat brought this penny all the way from Williams. I’ll never be able to find him to give it back.

Elka brought me a penny once. It wasn’t a smashed one, though.

I have a hard time resisting those “smash a penny souvenir” machines!

    • Bongo

      March 6, 2012 at 10:25 pm

Jen, my person likes them too. She says it’s a great way to collect a souvenir without spending much money.

Marina, I guess because it’s oblong it must be special luck.

Bongo, your nose looks much shinier than the metal to me!!!! Cute!!! 🙂
Well…I never seen smashed coin in a machine…..does it change the shape after being smashed? Woof?

    • Bongo

      March 7, 2012 at 11:27 am

Kevin, those smashed coin machines are popular at tourist areas here. You put in a round penny and two quarters and you get the penny back in an oblong shape with an imprint on it from the place you’re at. My younger person used to collect these.

Nanina, a decorated collar. I like that idea.

Bongo, I never saw the point in pressing pennies as souvenirs. After all, once you have it what are you going to do with it? Frame it and display it? Plus, it cost more than a penny to press a penny and pennies, aka, money, doesn’t grow on trees!

    • Bongo

      March 7, 2012 at 9:25 pm

Monica, at least this pressed penny didn’t cost me anything. I wonder if that pack rat had to pay for it.
