Save the Weeds

28 Mar

Bongo Eating WeedsPerfect conditions! Warm spring weather and we just had lots of snow that melted and soaked the ground. Guess what that means. Weeds! Bunches of them. And I really like munching on weeds.

My person took me out for an extra walk today because she wanted to get some pictures, and I took advantage of it to get some weed munching in. My person kept telling me to quit, but she was too busy with her camera to do anything about it, and I kept munching away.

What am I saying here? Somebody’s going to think I’m turning into a sheep. I still like meat and dog treats and stuff, but an occasional weed for dessert is nice. And I’ll chase the sheep before I turn into one myself.

Where was I going with this? Oh yeah. I got a taste of the weeds on my trails and I really looked forward to trying out the weeds in my yard. But you know what my person did? She went out in the yard and started pulling those weeds out of the ground. She put them in a big black bag and threw that in the garbage can.

I think I could have convinced her to save some of those weeds, but she wouldn’t even let me go out in the yard with her. She said it wasn’t even to keep me from eating weeds. Something about getting bored and jumping the fence when she was out pulling weeds before.

Hey person, that was way last summer. I won’t do that again. I’ll just stay in the yard and graze. Really.

Bongo your person should let you graze and eat the weeds and then she won’t have to pull them and put them into a black bag.

Bassetmomma, maybe I could butt my person out the door and follow her so I can eat the weeds.

I am glad it is not just Rosie who does this. She also tries to drink any standing water she can find including some putrid looking stuff in a nearby pond. Just got back from the vet and $261 later I now know she has a urinary tract infection. Just glad it is something we can treat. Be careful out there Bongo!

Winsomebella, whenever I get into the puddle on my trails my person yanks me out of it and says not to drink it. Especially the last few days – she says it looks like stuff is growing in it. Personally I think that would make the water taste even better. I hope Rosie is better soon.

What can I say Bongo sometimes is hard for Humans to forget when we do something we shouldn’t have. I’m sure you would have been good but Mom just didn’t want to take the chance:( Glad you got to munch on the new weeds on the trail 🙂

Diane, I think my person and I have a different opinion on that. If they taste good they shouldn’t be weeds, but I can’t even get my person to try them.

“Hi Bongo” – the German here – “I don’t get it. My person actually plants grass in pots for RC to nibble – but I get yelled at for grabbing a green leaf or 6 in the backyard? And they grab all those green lumps of stuck together grass that the lawn mower leaves behind. You see, Bongo, another way cats get what they want and dogs are denied! Unfair!”

Please be careful of those weeds, particularly if there is foxtail.

Lindy, we do have lots of foxtail. I’ve never had a problem with them – probably because my person keeps me away from them. She says she used to have a dog who once got one stuck up his nose and it wasn’t pretty.

Bongo, when my dog was still alive, she jumped the fence lots of times, and serveral times she was brought to the shelter by the police, once she was hit by a car, and a few times somebody took her home until they found her person. I know you guys only want to play or feel free for a moment, but it can be very dangerous, so it’s better to stay in your yard and keep on chewing 🙂

Wow, lots of stuff happened to your dog Angels Whisper. I guess I’ve been lucky. Sometimes people find me when I run off and they call my person because her phone number is on a tag attached to my collar. I’ve never had bad stuff happen though.

Hmmn, maybe you have, ahem, intestinal guests (IG) living inside you Bongo. I don’t know. One time our vet told Chuckles (farm dog) he had those guests because he kept eating, ahem, weeds. He got IG meds to evict them outta there! Haha! 🙂
