I’m Not Shy

06 Apr

Plane with BannerWhen I take my person takes me for walks she never lets me run up and greet people. I’m not sure why. People always love me and I just love to give them lots of slobbery kisses. When we’re on my trails and people come toward us she pulls me aside until they pass. She only lets me greet them if they ask first.

Today we were on the trails and two people came toward us. My person pulled me off to the side and for a moment my head turned the way she was pulling me – toward the side of the trail and away from the people.

The lady must have seen my head turn and she said something about me being shy. I had no idea what that word meant and I had to ask my person.

Are you serious? It means that? I’m not shy.

Hey lady, you must be confused. I tried to run after that lady and set her straight – and maybe give her lots of slobbery kisses to prove it – but my person wouldn’t let me.

How am I going to let that lady know? Maybe I could rent an airplane. You know, the kind with the words hanging out the back? I could have a big banner flying behind the airplane that says “Bongo’s Not Shy!!!” Then to really prove it, I could jump out of the airplane with a parachute.

On second thought, I think I’ll just keep walking along the trails with my person.

My person says that some people don’t like dogs. Can you imagine? I guess maybe your person just wants to make sure people aren’t afraid before you meet them.

Lola, I can’t imagine anyone being afraid of me – or you – but I guess some people don’t make sense at all.

Jaz, my younger person’s grandpa has an airplane. Maybe he would fly a banner for me. I don’t think I’ll jump out of it though.

If we met you on a path, Dimples would beg me for permission to ask your person if she could pet you. When she sees a dog, that is the one time Dimples is not shy!

I wish Dimples would come on my trails. I would love to give her lots of slobbery kisses and get loves from her.

Better they think you’re shy than think you’re dangerous!

Rumpy, I guess you’re right. I wouldn’t want anyone to be afraid of me – well, maybe a few dogs.

My dad jumped out of an airplane when he was 75 – and he wasn’t shy, either. No, you’re not shy, but friendly and some people are nervous about happy, friendly dogs, go figure. Enjoy your walks and have a happy Easter!

Bobbie Rae, I guess I’ll just have to put on my charm so those people don’t get nervous. Happy Easter to you too.

Bongo, I think you should use this to your advantage. Letting people think you’re shy will gain you even more attention and affection, believe me!

Marina, I might try that – but it will be really hard for me to pretend I’m shy.

Bongo, I get nervous when dogs rush up to me cos I can’t see one side. But I am sure you mean well. I am jealous of your trails, I live in concrete land. Give your human a slobbery kiss from me lol

Susan, maybe that’s why my person won’t let me rush up to people – maybe some of the people on my trails get nervous too. I’ll be happy to give my person a slobbery kiss and I’ll save one for you too.

Maybe you could get some business cards that say “I’m friendly!” that your person could hand out to people. That should clear things up!

Meg, I like that idea. If they can’t read me they can read my card.

Kevin, I think I should get one of those pilot helmets and fly around in one of those old open biplanes. That might be fun.

Sweet Bongo, we know you are not shy. You just keep enjoying those nice walks and don’t let what people think bother you. Hugs and nose kisses

Chancy and Mumsy, maybe I’m too sensitive. I guess what other people say shouldn’t matter. Hugs and nose kisses back to you.

Are you sure, Bongo, the lady said you are shy? Maybe you didn’t hear it right and did she mean that she is too shy to get all those charm and slobbery kisses from you 😀

    • Bongo

      April 9, 2012 at 12:58 pm

Angels Whisper, that must be it. It’s that lady who is shy – not me. Maybe I can find her again and let her know she doesn’t have to be shy around me.

The German: “Bongo, trails are so cool. Have you noticed the nicest dogs and people are on trails? Trail dogs never bark or growl at me and we can have a waggle-tail chat and visit. Most of the people pause and ask before they try to pet me – even the little kids. Trails are my favorite place!”

German, there are lots of nice people and dogs on my trails too. I’ve had a couple run ins with other dogs though. My person says sometimes I start it. I think she’s wrong. She can’t tell what those other dogs are thinking.

We know your not shy Bongo and that you are very nice, but maybe the lady just doesn’t understand dogs. I think staying on the ground and walking your trail is a much better idea than jumping from an airplane where you could get hurt. We like your trails much better anyway 🙂

Lexie and Mica, I decided an airplane might not be the best thing. I like my trails too much.
