Trail Sleeper

07 May

Bongo checking out a sleeping bagSomebody’s been sleeping on my trails. I don’t know who it is, but I was walking along and saw something blue off under a tree. So I immediately had to put on my Detective Dog hat and go check it out. What’s a sleeping bag doing on my trails?

Coyotes and bunnies sleep around here, but people don’t sleep here. Until now, at least. So why would someone sleep here when there are houses so close by. Even I sleep in a house – on a nice comfy bed.

Or if the sleeping bag owner likes camping, then wouldn’t it make sense to go further away from the houses? I don’t get it.

Notice I’m checking this thing out in pointer stance – after all, I am part pointer – and there were some really serious smells clues going on. I barked at that thing – and I don’t bark unless it’s important – hoping some more clues would be released, or someone would crawl out, but no luck.

Since I’m not getting anywhere here, I think I’ll head on down the trail, and keep my eyes open for a sleepwalker. I may have to guide that sleepwalking person back to bed – but not until I’ve done some interrogating and found out the rest of the story.

    Hey bongo, jet here.
Hmm. I think you are following a logical detecting trajectory. (vocab builder). Can’t wait to learn what you discover.

Hey Jet, this one’s a real mystery. I had to get my person to explain those words to me – so now I know some bigger words.

Hey Bongo… sounds like a perplexing (another vocab builder) situation for sure… Mom’s Papa, (grandfather), was a big believer on vocab building in the family, so… she wants me to have the same exposure!

Hey Jet, I’m still having trouble with most of those big words. I’m getting better though. I usually have to ask my person what they mean.

That’s how you improve Bongo… I ask Mom all the time… actually, sometimes I ask her to do this thingie called google the definition!

Jet, my person does that Google thing too.

Bongo this is a true mystery. We hope you find that person who left their sleeping bag on your trail. You like very official in pointer stance. We didn’t know you were part pointer. What are your other parts?

Bella and DiDi, I think I have some shepherd in me too – but I’m a rescue dog so I’m not sure what all I’m made up of. The Humane Society told my person I was a pointer mix.

Always follow your nose. Sorry I know that was bad dog humor. I’m sure you get that a lot. I’ll do better next time.

Andrew, I probably could have found the sleeping bag owner that way, but I was taking my person for a walk and I couldn’t get her to go everywhere I wanted to go. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I checked out your blog. My person laughed a lot while we were reading it.

Impressed with the pointer pose – you’ve been holding out on us, Bongo!

Karen, I only pose like that on special occasions and I don’t usually hold it long enough for my person to get her camera out.

Oh Dog! I hope somebody didn’t lose their tent….. or their home. 😦

    • Bongo

      May 7, 2012 at 4:31 pm

Rumpy, awhile ago I found an empty tent bag on my trails. Maybe I’ll find the tent next. I’m waiting to find the kitchen though.

Maybe sombody was out on a nature study/walk and became lost and tired, so they decided to sleep by that bush. I hope that person finds his way home…Woof…Woof!!

Penny, I sure hope that person didn’t wander off sleepwalking and get really lost. I haven’t seen anybody looking totally confused on my trails though, so maybe that person did go home.

Who would want to sleep where coyotes sleep?? Yikes. That could turn really ugly really fast! Be careful, Bongo. Coyotes – YIKES!

      May 7, 2012 at 6:52 pm

Cupcake, my person won’t let me near the coyotes. Maybe that’s why somebody left that sleeping bag. The coyotes came to cuddle up.

I hope you solve this one, Bongo. It is kinda intriguing.

      May 7, 2012 at 6:55 pm

Patricia, I’m not sure what’s going on. I was just out on my trails again and someone put that sleeping bag in the Trail Lost and Found. I hope the sleeping bag owner is not still sleepwalking somewhere.

Bongo, I hope you get to the bottom of this. If not, ask Henry for help. Or should I say, Sherlock Henry. 😉

      May 7, 2012 at 11:54 pm

Monica, I may need Sherlock Henry because that sleeping bag showed up in the Trail Lost and Found. Henry and I would make a great team.

        That would be awesome Monica.

Hmm, Bongo. Mysterious things appear in your trails. That Sherlock hat seems quite necessary after all!

      May 8, 2012 at 2:35 pm

Marina, I’ve really got to talk my person into getting me one of those hats.

    May 8, 2012 at 1:27 am

Hmmmm, that doesn’t look like a comfortable spot to sleep in. Maybe your mysterious camper just threw that out there.

    • Bongo

      May 8, 2012 at 2:36 pm

Nel, do you think someone’s using my trails as a garbage dump? That would be horrible. When I find that person I’m going to give them what for.

Maybe the trail sleeper left the sleeping-bag for you, Bongo, to rest for a few minutes, before you continue your way 🙂

    • Bongo

      May 8, 2012 at 2:37 pm

Angels Whisper, that sleeping bag would make a comfy bed.

Was there only a sleeping bag? It looks like having something in it on the photo….Very weird, Bongo….and a bit scary….you have to find out who left it there, Bongo.

    • Bongo

      May 8, 2012 at 2:38 pm

Kevin, that’s all there was – just a sleeping bag. No tent or cooking stuff or anything. Most campers bring food with them. That’s what I want to find.

I walk early with my person and sometimes it’s still dark. Once we almost stepped on a person who was sleeping in the path. He startled me so much that I wouldn’t walk by him and we had to turn around and go back the way we came.

    • Bongo

      May 8, 2012 at 2:40 pm

Lola, that would be really strange. I hope I never find someone actually sleeping on my trails. You should have given that person what for – or else a big slobbery kiss. That would wake them up for sure.

Yikes Bongo… you find the most interesting things on your trails – all I ever find are empty beer bottles although once I did score a pizza box.

      May 8, 2012 at 2:41 pm

Diane, I guess I have pretty good trails and good people and dogs that use them. People rarely litter on my trails, but sometimes things get left behind.

What a mystery Bongo! The Collies think you should have left a message on the sleeping bag…
    Your friends,
the naughty collies and chuck 🙂

    • Bongo

      May 8, 2012 at 2:51 pm

Collies and Chuck, that’s not a bad idea. But whatever message I left, I think the sleeping bag owner would read it as “Don’t pick up the bag.”

Another mystery to investigate! You’ll be busy with this one!

    • Bongo

      May 10, 2012 at 10:13 pm

Bassetmomma, I haven’t got to the bottom of it yet – and no one seems to be claiming that sleeping bag.

Sunshine, somebody moved that sleeping bag to the Trail Lost and Found days ago and nobody is claiming it. I hope the person didn’t sleepwalk away.

Sunshine, I’m always wide awake on my trails. There’s plenty of time to sleep at home.

    Sleeping bags can be quite convenient if you go out on a camping trip. ;

Tommy, I don’t think anyone was supposed to be camping there. Maybe they were chased off and left their sleeping bag behind.
