Dog Proof No More

02 Jul

Bongo surrounded by garbageMy people are going to be so proud of me. I learned a new trick.

I used to only be able to empty the garbage can for them when the lid didn’t go down all the way.

I waited until my people left the house so if I pulled out the wrong thing and they got mad at me I could always blame it on Scratchy. Scratchy’s a cat and cats are always up to no good.

I would pull everything I could out of the garbage can until the lid went flat again. Who wants a garbage lid to be sticking up letting all those good smells get loose? I figure my people are saving those smells for something special.

I kind of like having those special aromas around the house though, and I finally figured out how to do it.

It’s kind of tricky. If I step on this thing near the floor the lid on the garbage can pops up.

But here comes the hard part. I have to keep stepping on that little thing at the same time I’m reaching in to grab the garbage. If I’m not careful the lid comes plop down right on my head.

But it’s all worth it because I usually manage to get some good garbage out, just waiting for me to chew it up and waft in those wonderful aromas. (Did I say that?)

And when my people get home – and they look at me with that stern look – I only have one thing to say.

Scratchy did it!

Sweet Bongo we know you didn’t make that mess in the floor and blame it on Scratchy, we just know you didn’t. Hugs and nose kisses

Chancy and Mumsy, I’m always a good dog. It’s Scratchy that gets into mischief every time.

Of course the cat did it! My poor Dalmation used to empty the trash around the entire garden if I got home late and there was no cat to blame it on. You stick with your story

    • Bongo

      July 2, 2012 at 3:10 pm

Susan, I guess that’s one advantage of living with a cat. I never have to take the blame.

You are too clever by half Bongo lad! Fancy blaming it onto poor Scratchy.
I have the same problem except my bin has a swing lid and my dog Guido knows how to push it so that he can get out ‘those good smells’.
However now I have got it sorted as I put the rubbish bin where he cannot reach!

    • Bongo

      July 2, 2012 at 3:11 pm

Patreciau, give Guido a chance. It’s no fun if he can’t reach for all those good smelling things.

Bongo, you lucky dog, you are a genius! I always wondered what that garbage stepper thing was for. Of course, this knowledge doesn’t help me much, because I’m not heavy enough to make it work, and even if I somehow managed to open the garbage pail, I’m too little to reach the top of it. I guess I’ll just enjoy the occasional smells around here. I can always eat goose poop when I go outside.

      July 2, 2012 at 3:12 pm

Cupcake, tell your mom to get a smaller trash can. Then you can have good smells and goose poop. I wish we had geese around here.

Wow! Now that Bongo is just pure talent! You get the garbage can open, steal a few things and then blame it on the cat! That is awesome!

    • Bongo

      July 2, 2012 at 3:13 pm

Brown Newfies, it’s so much fun to get into mischief and let Scratchy take the blame.

Oooooh Bongo, looks like you got some plastic stuff. It must have had some good smells on it like that styrofoam meat tray I ate last week. I didn’t feel so good after a while though. People should keep all the “good” food in a separate trash can don’t you think? Lola w/a little belly ache.

    • Bongo

      July 2, 2012 at 5:19 pm

Lola, there’s definitely something wrong with things that smell so good and feel so bad when we eat them. I didn’t eat the plastic – at least not enough to make me sick – but it sure was fun tearing it up.

    Hey Bongo,

That’s some pretty impressive, technical Mischief buddy – and you even manage to frame Scratchy for it!! Way to go Dude!! Tee Hee

    Wags to all

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

Thanks Snoopy. I learn from the best.

If you want your people to believe it was Scratchy that got into the garbage you should work on not looking so proud of yourself. The look on your face just shouts “Yay, look at what I did.”

    • Bongo

      July 2, 2012 at 5:20 pm

Patricia, is that why my people wouldn’t believe me when I said Scratchy did it?

That’s some great mischief Bongo! You are becoming a master! 🙂

Oh no! We have that exact same garbage can! I hope Wonderbutt doesn’t read this!

      I could give Wonderbutt lessons.

How could your people ever think you did that with a innocent face such as yours… definitely Scratchy!

    • Bongo

      July 2, 2012 at 9:29 pm

Misty Shores, I can’t figure out why my people always blame me.

  12. Wayside Artist

    July 2, 2012 at 6:44 pm

Brilliant Bongo! I think you look like you solved a mystery. Maybe leaving a catnip mouse near the scene might help your person understand how naughty Scratchy is.

    • Bongo

      July 2, 2012 at 9:30 pm

Nanina, what a great idea. Since I have so much trouble convincing my people it wasn’t me, I could leave a little extra evidence to convince them.

    That’s some trick!

    • Bongo

      July 2, 2012 at 9:30 pm

Thanks Jen. It took me awhile to figure it out.

  14. Colby

    Hi Bongo,

That’s a great trick you learned, but please don’t teach it to my dogs. 🙂

    Happy Monday!

    • Bongo

      July 2, 2012 at 9:32 pm

Colby, I think all dogs should know this trick. I could start a Bongo school for special blaming it on the cat tricks.

You look so proud of yourself in that photo Bongo. Lucky for Mumma, Bella and Beary aren’t reading this with me to learn your tricks!!

    • Bongo

      July 3, 2012 at 5:05 pm

Bumpy Road, I’m offering special dog lessons in how to do this. Just send Bella and Beary my way.

Lucky they’re not so keen on spending that many hours in a plane just to learn a new trick. 🙂

Bongo, Bongo, Bongo. Enough said. Now, go clean up that mess! Scratchy said YOU did it!

    • Bongo

      July 3, 2012 at 5:07 pm

Monica, you believe Scratchy!??? I would eat up all that mess, but the plastic was no good after I licked the flavor off. Oops, I mean – Scratchy did it!

  17. angelswhisper2011

    July 3, 2012 at 12:00 am

You sure do look happy in all that mess, Bongo 😀 lol

    • Bongo

Angels Whisper, it’s fun getting – I mean having Scratchy get all these good smelling things all over.

    Hey Bongo, Jet here.

Dude, good one… I’m proud of you. Very scientific in your analysis of the mechanism required. Totally with you on Scratchy, too…

Mom asked me to share… tsk, tsk, tsk.

    • Bongo

      July 3, 2012 at 5:16 pm

Thanks Jet. It took me awhile to figure that mechanism thingy out, but I figure if I can do it Scratchy can too. So he’s to blame.

        July 4, 2012 at 11:27 am

        Hey Bongo, Jet here.

Perseverance, a fine K9 quality my friend.

Oh for sure, blame Scratchy… Puffy used to get my golden sister, Koko, may she be frolicking over the Rainbow Bridge, in trouble all the time, and then put on that “Who me? I didn’t do anything face.

      • Bongo

        July 4, 2012 at 3:27 pm

Hey Jet, I still have trouble convincing my people that Scratchy did it. I’m not sure why.

  20. Dianda

    July 3, 2012 at 12:27 pm

    Stop blaming the cat! 😉

    • Bongo

      July 3, 2012 at 5:21 pm

Dianda, I’m really giving Scratchy a lot of credit by blaming him. It’s not every cat who could do something like this.

      • Dianda

        July 4, 2012 at 1:20 am

        You’re right, Bongo!

Thats right.. Scratchy did it and all the collies here will be witnesses to that effect!!! LOL…. bad scratchy..bad! 😛

      July 3, 2012 at 5:34 pm

Thanks Collies. I knew I could depend on you.

Woo hoo!!!! Great discovery of the garbage can! Yes, it’s very tricky, but so useful! Oh no…..poor Scratchy….

    • Bongo

      July 3, 2012 at 6:18 pm

Kevin, Scratchy deserves to get blamed. After all, I won a contest for him and he’s not sharing any of the treats he’s getting.
