Ant Pottery

21 Jul

Ant hill shaped like a vaseSome of the ants on my trails must be bored because they are getting creative with their ant hills. Usually they make a little hill at the entrance, or sometimes the hill is reversed and the ants have a funnel entrance.

But this time the entrance looks like the top of a vase. I wonder if some of the ants went to pottery class and decided to put their new talents to work.

I wonder if they have a pottery class just for ants, or if the ants have to take the same class as people do. That might be kind of dangerous.

Just think of all the hazards that could befall the ants. (I might be falling if my person doesn’t stop telling me to use words I don’t understand.)

The ants could crawl into a big vase or pot that a person was making, and then before they could crawl out again the person might decide to start all over and smash the pot.

Or even if the ants did get out in time, if they hung around on the pot they might go with it into the kiln and turn into crispy critters.

And what if the ants were making an ant sized pot and a person didn’t see it and set his pot down on top of it – and on top of the ants.

All kinds of things could happen to those ants if they took a pottery class with people. But it looks like at least some of those ants survived. It’s too bad they waited so long to take the class though. If they’d done it in the spring they would have been able to find some flowers.

Thanks Patreciau. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I guess weird is one of my middle names – after mischief, of course.

What a lovely post Bongo! Seems to me that those ants are self taught artists, as YOU are too! Maybe you should all get together and teach us humans a few tricks!

Thanks Marina. If you will share your paints with me I bet I could show you how to make some pretty cool creations. I haven’t been able to get my person to let me use her paints.

Ants will never be as creative as you, Rumpy.
(Maybe some of the ants just got back from vacation at the beach and are trying to show what jellyfish look like? Or, no, that’s no possible. some couldn’t have been to Mars.)

Karen, maybe those ants were imitating what they saw from the aliens that landed here. There are always stories going around about aliens where I live, so maybe they saw some.

Those are some fancy-pants-ants! So is the person who photoshopped in the flowers! We love creativity!

Thanks Cupcake. Those ants were pretty creative, but they really did need some flowers to go with it.

Sage, I think those ants probably enjoyed the flowers a lot.

Jen, ants are pretty good as long as they stay out of the house – and out of my dog food.

I hope you didn’t dig up the anthill. If one of those ants bite you on the nose it can really hurt!

Delft, my person warned me about those ants – and if I don’t listen to her she yanks on my leash.

Ginger, I’m not sure I want to get close enough to water that anthill. I’ve heard that they have nasty bites.

That is the most artistic ant hill I’ve ever seen. My word Bongo, you really do find the most interesting things on your walks.

Susan, we live in an artistic community so I guess it rubbed off on the ants.

Dianda, those ants might still need a little help.

Interesting. I’ve never seen an ant hill like it. Very creative with the flowers!

Thanks Dawn. Most of the ants here are just normal, but we do have a few creative ones.

You have some very smart and talented ants on your trail sweet Bongo. The ants around here we suspect have never taken pottery classes. People and ants doing anything together don’t sound like a good idea to us. Hugs and nose kisses

      July 22, 2012 at 12:58 pm

Chancy and Mumsy, my person says people and ants often do picnics together. She says the ants think it’s a great idea but they haven’t been able to convince any people.

Bongo, you see beauty everywhere and your consideration for the ants is wonderful. I hope they enjoy the flowers :).

      July 22, 2012 at 1:02 pm

Bobbie Rae, I think those ants will only want flowers in their ant hole if they can eat them. Maybe they can crawl all over them instead.

Wow Bongo your ants are living such complicated lives out there, what if they for get where to go next, it sounds very hazardous. I don’ know what our ants are doing this year, it must be too hot for them to come out at all. We usually have them everywhere and this year there are very few. Surly their tunnel can’t make it all the way to Arizona??

Lexie and Mica, I think those ants were really happy that it rained. The hot weather hasn’t seemed to slow down our ants, but there seem to be even more ant holes since we’ve had some rain in the last few days.

Dalton, all the ants in my yard are just plain old ants. I have to go out on my trails to find the creative ones.

Paul Bowls, I guess you can accomplish a lot when you’re bored. I checked out your site and the ants have a long way to go to make pottery as beautiful as yours.

Monica, I think those ants must have found a class just for ants, because I’ve sure been seeing a lot of ants around lately.
