Rain on the Roof

01 Sep

Small cloud raining on one spot on a houseI like water – a lot. Even when it’s raining on me. I don’t mind getting wet. In fact, it’s kind of cool.

But one thing I don’t like is the sound of rain pounding down on the roof when I’m inside the house. It’s a creepy, scary kind of sound – second only to thunder. And we get a lot of it this time of year.

Lately, we’ve had a new kind of rain on the roof. It sounds way different than the usual rain. It makes more of a pitter patter sound.

And this new rain doesn’t rain all over the roof at the same time. I hear it in one spot and then it moves along the roof going pitter patter, pitter patter. It’s not as scary as the usual rain. I actually don’t mind it much at all.

I’ve never seen this strange rain do what it does when I’m outside. You’d think with all my walks I’d catch that pitter pattery rain in action.

My person took her camera outside when it was happening and tried to take a picture of it. Except by the time she got outside it had stopped. She said the only thing she saw was a squirrel in a tree.

…so what, you mean that it was the squirrel doing that noise and not a little playful cloud?!!! I love your sketch Bongo!

Thanks Sweet Kitten. My person had to help me with that. It’s hard to hold pens in your paws.

Thanks Marina. My person is trying to tell me it was the squirrel. I’m not sure I believe her – but those squirrels are pretty pesky.

Oh, squirrels! They can be a real nuisance on the roof…in the ceiling…in your attic 😦

Elka doesn’t like going out in the rain. She seems to think she’ll melt!

Jen, fortunately our squirrels only manage to get on top of our roof. I think I’ll stick with rain though. I’d rather have it raining water than raining squirrels.

Oh, sweet Bongo we have those kinds of noises on our roof too. When those squirrels go pitter pattering across the top of the house I always look up at the ceiling but I never see anything. Mumsy tells me it just those pesky squirrels taking a short cut from one oak tree to the other. Hugs and nose kisses

Chancy, I think we should get together and do something about those pesky squirrels. Of all the nerve – making rain sounds on our roofs. Hugs and nose kisses back to you.

Whenever I hear noise over my head, it’s usually the people upstairs. I’m pretty sure they’re people, but OMG – maybe they’re squirrels, too! Giant mutant squirrels.

    Love and licks,

Cupcake, you might really be in trouble. Those little pesky squirrels are bad enough. I can’t imagine Giant Mutant Squirrels taking over the place. You might need to have your mom get you a giant squirrel trap.

Misty Shores, I wouldn’t want one of those pesky squirrels for a pet. They like to give me a bad time.

I’m envious of you Bongo because you have squirrels around your house! ( well… On the roof, too in fact? ) We wish we had them in our neighbourhood….We haven’t seen squirrels here except we go to zoo… Mom says when she went to NY and visited Central park, she saw wild squirrels while she was having muffins on the bench! She says the squirrel was so cute and showed me the picture!
P.S. the sketch is lovely! Easy to imagine the scene what had been happening on the roof, Bongo! 🙂

Thanks Kevin. I think most places in this country have those pesky squirrels. They’re cute but they like to harass us dogs. They get up somewhere high and taunt us because they know we can’t get to them.

The squirrels are so naughty! What do they do when it’s raining, Bongo, splashing water all over the roof 🙂 Btw Nice drawing, Bongo.

Thanks Angels Whisper. Those pesky squirrels are always doing something that could get them into trouble. They know they can get away with it because no one can catch them.

I wonder! Have you ever noticed that when you hear the pitter-patter on the roof that it is not actually raining outside of your house? I think it is a little squirrel running backwards and forwards. Now Squirrel would be a nice friend for you….xxxxx

Patreciau, those pesky squirrels are up to no good. I don’t think they’d make very good friends because they hang out way up high in the trees and laugh at me.

ooo… the collies’ blood is boiling now… they are still chasing the squirrel here. Unsporting chap who stays in a branch 10 ffet off the ground laying on the branch chattering at them wiggling its tail. Ginger tried a slingshot and almost got him….. she wants to put sticky fly tape in the trees so when it goes through it gets it stuck in its fur.. hehehehe perhaps scratchy would like a try at him?

Collies, I really like Ginger’s idea. Get that squirrel stuck in the tree. Then I could tell Scratchy which branches are safe to step on and send him up after that squirrel.

Ginger says then once scratchy kill squirrel you can have her step on unsafe branches coming down and get rid of both of them at once.. muwahahahah here comes dad so I am sending it quick as I can before he stops me… 🙂

Ginger, either that or I can direct Scratchy to a sticky branch after he gets the squirrel. Then they’ll both be stuck in the tree.

I don’t mind rain, either. We normally only get it in winter, but we had a little shower this morning. Just enough to wet the pavement before the sun came up. I would be very mad if there were a squirrel on my roof, though. If only I could figure out how to get up there and chase him off.

    That’s such a cute Squirrel!
I don’t mind rain, in fact, I don’t mind rain pounding on my roof. Thing is Bongo, I live in an apartment complex, so I have someone living above me. 😉 So I won’t hear the rain pounding on my roof!

Dianda, my younger person just moved into an apartment with someone above him so he doesn’t hear rain on his roof anymore. He says I can’t move in with him though because they only allow little dogs there. The rain gets really loud on my roof sometimes.

Dianda, my younger person can have dogs in his apartment, but they have to weigh 25 pounds or less and I don’t qualify. Maybe I could make myself look smaller.
