What’s That Chattering?

31 Oct

Squirrel up on a wireWe were finishing up our trail walk and heading back to the street – but not at the normal place where we usually hit the street. I heard somebody chattering at me. I looked everywhere and couldn’t figure out where that chattering was coming from. Until I finally figured there was nowhere else to look. And the chattering came again.

With the corner of my eye I caught some movement above me – and there he was. Looking at me. That pesky squirrel.

.

Squirrel looking down from the wire

Come on down here squirrel! You think you’re so brave way up there on that wire. Come on down and face me on the ground.

You know what that squirrel did? He turned and started running down the wire – away from me.

Squirrel running along the wire

I knew that pesky squirrel wasn’t brave enough. He ran down the wire and never did come back. I bet he went looking for another dog to harass.

He was probably afraid to go messing with me. Afraid I might fly right up to that wire and go after him.

Super Dog

After all, I am Super Dog.

There’s been a story doing the rounds here advising people to put vaseline on the poles of their bird feeders and bird tables so that the squirrels slide down and can’t get the bird food.

That also might give ME chance to catch one of them. One day.

    Love and licks, Winnie

Winnie, that sounds like a great idea. I think I’ll start putting vaseline on the trees in my yard right now. Squirrels, watch out. Here I come!

Squirrels talk a lot of trash in trees, but I’m sure they always bolt when they see you on the ground!

Will and Eko, I think I might have to send Scratchy, my cat, up after those squirrels. That would teach them not to talk trash.

He must have thought: Chirp chirp, not Bongo, the Super Dog! I’m not messing with him! No way!!! I better hit the road. Run my little feet, RUN!!!!!!” I think he is still running!

Marina, I haven’t seen that squirrel since. He’s probably all the way to the Pacific Ocean by now.

Misaki, squirrels think they own the world when they’re up high. I told that one off though. I hope he doesn’t come back.

Well, hello there Super Dog. How funny, having a squirrel chatting to you. Maybe the phrase should be scaredy squirrel not scaredy cat?

Susan, I totally agree. Squirrels only act brave when they’re way up high. Put them within reach and they run.

Hey Super Dog! Happy Howl-o-ween! My dogs love squirrels. They shake ’em like little squirrel dolls. We moved to a house without trees and took away all their fun, which works for me.

FleaByte, I’m jealous that your dogs can catch those pesky squirrels. I hardly ever see them except up in trees and on wires.

How could that rotten squirrel tease you so badly by running back and forth on the Hi wire where you couldn’t reach him. Then he ran down and disappeared, so when you finally find him on your trail you need to tell him what for!!

Lexie and Mica, I will for sure give that squirrel what for the first time I get a chance. I think he knows it though, because he never comes down when I’m around.

Too often those squirrels get away with bad behavior. Good thing Super Dog was on the job. 😀

    Hey Bongo, Jet here.

Yeah, those blustery from afar squirrels, they fear us manly man K9s!

      November 3, 2012 at 12:54 pm

Hey Jet, they think they’re so big when they’re up on something high – but they won’t dare come face us dog to squirrel.

Angels Whisper, as soon as I get hold of that pesky squirrel I’m going to let him know who’s boss.
