Trail Trip Without Me

18 Mar

Saguaro cactusDo you know what my people did? You won’t believe it. I can’t believe it because what they did is really terrible.

While I was stuck at the dog hotel you know what they did? They went out looking for new trails.

Without me.

How could they do that?

I mean, I love trails. And I love adventure. And how can you find more adventure than on a new trail?

And they didn’t take me.

And look at all the things they found.

.

Saguaro cactus dwarfing Bongo's younger person

I’ve never seen cactus like this on my trails. It’s towering over my younger person. Look how small he looks. It makes me feel bigger just to look at that picture.

I can be Big Dog now. My younger person doesn’t look so big after all.

Hey wait a minute. Now wait just a minute.

Saguaro Lake

You found a lake on that new trail and you didn’t take me swimming?

This is totally not fair at all. I’m going on strike.

No walks for my people until they take me to that lake.

What, person? There is what on that new trail you found?

Jumping Cholla cactus

Attack cactus?

If you get too close that cactus jumps off and sticks to you?

That sounds like a secret weapon to me. If some bad guy comes I could convince him I want to take his picture next to that cactus. And then whap, whap! That cactus jumps off and attacks him. And I’ve got it all on film.

I sure wouldn’t want to kiss him after that.

What do you mean, that’s not very nice. I’d only do it to a bad guy.

You think I would get tangled up in that cactus?

I would never go near that attack cactus. I’m the perfectly behaved dog. I always do what you say.

Fine then. I wouldn’t want to go on that new trail anyway. Giant cactus and attack cactus and a lake that’s so far down the hill that I’d have to take a flying leap into it.

I’m all worn out from the dog hotel anyway. I had fun that you don’t know anything about.

Don’t even think about trying to take me on that new trail. I’ll be busy. Taking a nap.

This scenery seems familiar to me.. Bongo, did your people go to the Mesa/Phoenix area? Those mountains look like the same mountains I have pictures of from when I lived in Mesa, AZ. I was attacked by that same type of cactus when I was by the Apache Trail.

Jackie, my person says this is very close to Mesa. They were at Saguaro Lake.

Jackie, my person said she had a wonderful time there. If I wasn’t just wanting to sleep right now I’d make her take me there.

    Attack cactus??? No thank you!

BZ, it’s definitely good to stay away from this cactus. It’s called jumping cholla because pieces of it actually will jump off.

Oh, Bongo, you sure sound tired, poor thing!
On the other hand, you’re right, who needs a hostile cactus and a lake that doesn’t move closer!!!
    Happy sleeping, sweet!
    🙂

Marina, I found my spot and I’m staying in it until I catch up with all my sleep.

Attack cactus is scary. Once I thought my neighbor’s newspaper was an attack cactus. I lunged into the bushes to hide from it, before it tried to kill me. Why can’t that guy get up early and bring his attack cactus – I mean newspaper- inside? Ugh.

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

Cupcake, attack cactus is definitely something you don’t want to mess with.

Blueberry has gotten attacked by those attack cactus. Boy – that was not pleasant!

Your humans owe you lots of treats and extra trail hikes for not taking you with them. 😉

Bluberry’s human, as soon as I catch up on my sleep I think I’m going to take my person on an all day hike. Somewhere with no attack cactus. I’m glad we don’t have any here but you live right near where it grows. Yikes!

Oh Bongo! What a dirty trick on you!

      March 18, 2013 at 4:29 pm

Bark and Chatter, the worst part is that my people left me in the dog hotel and went on the hike. At least my person finally came and brought me home from the dog hotel.

Maybe being at the dog hotel was a blessing in disguise. Sounds like a horrible trail to me.

      March 18, 2013 at 6:03 pm

Patricia, you might be right. At least there wasn’t any attack cactus at the dog hotel.

Benny & Lily, maybe I could knock the camera out of my person’s hand next time I’m on my trails with her.

I can’t believe the went on trails without you Bongo, that is your favorite thing!! But I did enjoy seeing the new things they found. The really tall cactus and the beautiful lake that I know you would have loved. I think we would all skip the attacking cactus that sounds mean and painful! Don’t think it was fair to leave you at the dog hotel 😦

    • Bongo

      March 19, 2013 at 1:52 pm

Lexie and Mica, it totally wasn’t fair. I’m going to have to come up with an escape plan so if I’m left at the dog hotel again I can get out and join my people on the trails. Wouldn’t they be surprised if I suddenly showed up?

Wow! The new trail is so beautiful! It’s like a healing place! Oops……sorry Bongo!
I wonder if there is only one Giant cactus on the new trail? Those attack cacutus are cute! 🙂

    • Bongo

      March 19, 2013 at 1:56 pm

Kevin, my person says there were lots of giant cacti on that trail. They’re called saguaro – but the g is silent. They only grow in the Sonoran Desert, which is in Arizona and Sonora, Mexico. The attack cactus are called jumping cholla and the two l’s are pronounced like a y. They are kind of cute, but I sure wouldn’t want them attacking me.

I’ve had cactus spines in me and, trust me, you don’t want to experience that. You were much better off staying home. But don’t let your people get in the habit of leaving you behind too often.

    • Bongo

      March 19, 2013 at 1:57 pm

Lola, I’ve had a few cactus spines in me too, but at least the cactus around where I live doesn’t jump out and attack.

I don’t know whether human irresponsibility has its limits. Your persons went to such a dangerous place
without you! It is a huge luck that they survived the encounter with those Attack Cactus Monsters without being led by you on the leash!

    • Bongo

      March 19, 2013 at 2:00 pm

Kolytyi, my people must have been really lucky. Normally they would need me to protect them. They shouldn’t take chances like that.

I have a feeling you wouldn’t want to get in any contest with that giant cactus, never mind the attack one! But, gotta say, that lake surely does look inviting.

      March 19, 2013 at 2:02 pm

Diane, swimming is one of my very favorite things and I hardly ever get to go. Next time I’m hiding in the car so my person can’t go without me.

They went trailing without you – I hope you threw a strop!!

    • Bongo

      March 20, 2013 at 11:42 am

Dalton, I would have gotten really upset if I hadn’t been so worn out from the dog hotel. When I finish my long nap I’m going to make my person take me for a really long trail walk.

    Hey Bongo,

I can’t believe your humans went near the attack cactus and didn’t bring their trusty guard dog to protect them?! Humans are weird sometimes!!

    Big wags,

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

    • Bongo

      March 20, 2013 at 11:43 am

Snoopy, my people are really lucky that cactus didn’t attack them. They really should have had me to protect them.

A walk without you? Oh boy I Ginger have a plot for you!!! Muwahahahah When mom goes to sleep throw scratchy on her and blame it on the attack cactus…. that way Scratchy will not get in trouble either and you two can pull this plot off many times!!!! 🙂

    • Bongo

      March 20, 2013 at 7:03 pm

Great plan Ginger. Scratchy’s claws would be just as amazing as being attacked by one of those cacti.

Bongo, maybe those cactuses are playing tagged too… but anyway, be prepared when your persons ask you to come on a trip next time. It’s better you wear an armour 🙂

Angel’s Whisper and Little Binky, I will definitely put on my cactus armor.
