Earlier today we had a bunch of thunder and some rain, but things had calmed down.
So my person and I decided to go for a walk.
Because of the rain everything smelled fresh and good, and the rain and clouds had cooled the air.
Rather than sweltering in the heat like we’ve been doing the last few days, it felt refreshing out in the cooler temperature.
This was turning into one of the best walks I’ve been on in a long time.
But then it happened.
First it was just a few drops of rain.
I can handle that.
But then I saw it.
A big flash of lightning.
And you know what comes after that.
I hate thunder. I’m deathly afraid of it.
Fortunately we were right at the beginning of a trail heading into the wash.
And it was the opposite direction of that thunder.
It’s a cool trail too, because you have to climb over big rocks when you get into the wash there.
But my person didn’t get it. She said we weren’t going that way.
But that thunder kept getting worse. And it came from the very direction we were headed.
My person says we have to go through this stuff to get home.
But I’m sure we can still get home if we head in another direction.

Out of jail…..whast uj worried about..you had your thunder jacket on to protect you and you had your person with you as well.thunder/lightening not too good but it rarely does harm…today we have had BIG storm. Rosie and Charlie were a bit worried but ok now..love and cuddles
July 12, 2013 at 4:24 pm
Patrecia, we’ve got a big storm going on right now with loud booms. I don’t like it one little bit.
July 6, 2013 at 11:13 am
You lost, Bongo, what a shame! But I bet you put up a good fight. 🙂
July 12, 2013 at 4:26 pm
Delft, it sure was good when we finally got back home. I don’t like going through that stuff at all.
July 6, 2013 at 12:09 pm
It sure is nice to walk in the cook air after a rain Bongo…Sorry that next storm came along so quick and messed with your fun
July 12, 2013 at 4:27 pm
Gizmo, I think I should get a summer place somewhere else where there isn’t any thunder. The rain is nice, but that thunder is sneaky and it shows up all the time.
July 6, 2013 at 1:04 pm
Too bad you couldn’t go to the trail you wanted…after all you even had your nifty thunder shirt on too. Penny has a similar shirt but in red, it matches her fur nicely.
We are glad that it rained….it helped keep the fire from spreading too far… 🙂
Hope you have a nice quiet evening with no thunder!!!
Alex, Trish and Penny
July 12, 2013 at 4:28 pm
Thanks Alex, Trish, and Penny. It sure would be great if we could get rain here without the thunder. We’ve got more thunder here today.
July 6, 2013 at 1:44 pm
Humans are weird aren’t they?! At least you did get to enjoy part of the trails. We’re also expecting rain here and the vest is ready for your friend! Courage, Bongo dear! 🙂
July 12, 2013 at 4:29 pm
Marina, I haven’t been able to figure out why my person doesn’t want to run away from the thunder too.
July 6, 2013 at 2:30 pm
Mom recognizes that stubborn posture. I am not afraid of thunder, but sometimes, if Mom wants to come inside, and I want to take a street nap, I look just like that!
Love and licks,
July 12, 2013 at 4:30 pm
Cupcake, sometimes I do the same thing if I want to take a longer walk. Every once in awhile it works, but usually not.
July 6, 2013 at 3:40 pm
Oh that is scary Bongo. I wish we’d get a little rain here & some cooler weather. Looks like you’re wearing your thunder vest though – does that help a little bit?
July 12, 2013 at 4:32 pm
Lola, my thunder vest helps calm me some, but thunder is still really scary to me. I think I need a force field around me that keeps thunder away.
July 13, 2013 at 11:28 am
Have you ever tried a tin foil hat? Diane put one on the cat once but I don’t think it had anything to do with thunder. I think she was just trying to keep the negative energy away from that cat!@
July 13, 2013 at 11:37 am
Lola, maybe I’ll try that next time. I think it helps keep aliens from reaching into your mind too.
July 15, 2013 at 6:01 am
I think there’s aliens already living in Moe’s brain.
July 6, 2013 at 6:59 pm
Well at least you got to enjoy some outside time!
Stop on by for a visit
July 12, 2013 at 4:33 pm
Kari, it is always great to be outside. I just wish the thunder didn’t want to be there too.
July 6, 2013 at 11:15 pm
Sorry to hear about the thunder Bongo 😦
July 12, 2013 at 4:33 pm
Thanks Bassa. I think I’m stuck with it for the next couple of months.
July 7, 2013 at 5:50 am
You show your person just how brave you can be Bongo, Im sure your person will reward you with some yummy treats. Walking after the rain is a lovely feeling.
July 12, 2013 at 4:35 pm
Susan, I love walking after the rain, as long as the thunder doesn’t have the same idea. But I’m working on the treats now.
July 7, 2013 at 8:04 am
I’m afraid Bongo that your person skipped her geography lessons at school. She should know that Earth is a huge ball – so, if you go steadily in the same direction, you will return to your starting point.
July 12, 2013 at 4:36 pm
Kolytyi, that is the best idea yet. That means I also get to go swimming before I get back home.
July 7, 2013 at 8:36 am
Oh poor Bongo….I’m very sorry that you had to suffer from the thunder…..I know how it scares you…..my mom also hates thunder, too so we need to get those thunder away to somewhere not in this earth together!
July 12, 2013 at 4:39 pm
Kevin, I bet if we team up we can figure out how to get rid of the thunder.
July 7, 2013 at 5:58 pm
So that’s where Molly learned the “sit down you’re going wrong approach”. I’ve been wondering.
We are expecting rain so have packed up all the outside toys and taken afternoon walk a little early since it is windy and cooler. We don’t have any big rocks so we can run home faster if necessary.
Hope it quiets down there, Bongo…but wish you’d get to keep the cooler weather>
July 12, 2013 at 4:44 pm
Karen, we got some rain today – but tons of thunder came with it. I’m glad I was able to teach Molly something though.
July 8, 2013 at 1:47 am
Paw you, I do hope you got home safe? Next time the thunder sounds and you don’t want to walk through it to home you are very welcome at mine!
July 12, 2013 at 4:46 pm
Dalton, I’ll remember that and head straight to your house. I think you live in the opposite direction of the thunder.
July 8, 2013 at 12:22 pm
Bongo, you better get up and follow your person. If you sit any longer, the thunder might getting worse and you get more scared, so it’s better you follow your person this time.
July 12, 2013 at 4:58 pm
Little Binky, I’ll follow my person as soon as she starts going away from that thunder.
July 8, 2013 at 11:37 pm
So sorry Bongo, sometimes home is through the thunder so we run really fast. Mom lets go cause she can’t keep up and knows we will go straight home!
July 12, 2013 at 5:04 pm
Lexie and Mica, my person is afraid I’ll run away from the thunder so she makes me stay with her. I just wish she’d go the way I want to go.
Misty Shores Chesapeakes
July 9, 2013 at 8:29 pm
Your person would never let anything happen to you Bongo.
July 12, 2013 at 5:23 pm
Misty Shores, I think that thunder is more powerful than my person. It sure makes more noise than she does.
July 14, 2013 at 6:26 am
Ginger says hand your human a metal rod to hold while you walk…. *no old guy I will not get off the computer*…. come any closer I will hit … send
July 14, 2013 at 3:54 pm
Ginger, it’s thundering again so I’m looking for one of those metal rod thingies. If my person tries to make me go outside she’s getting it.
July 14, 2013 at 3:59 pm
dont forget to take a picture… *evil grin*
