A few days ago I was walking on my trails minding my own business when I saw something that surprised me.
My puddle had come back!
Well, half my puddle anyway. But my puddle has been missing for months and months.
I don’t know where it disappears to, but it does that a lot.
It just gets up and leaves. And then it shows up again when it feels like it.
***
So the next day I was really curious.
Would my puddle still be there, or not?
I found the strangest thing when I got to the puddle spot.
My puddle was still there…
but it had been invaded.
Dozens of tiny tadpoles filled my puddle.
Swimming, wriggling, and darting all over the place.
I tried to stomp them out…
but there were far too many of them.
They filled every little bit of my puddle.
I went back the next day not knowing what to expect.
And you know what I found?
No puddle, no tadpoles, nothing.
My puddle had fled and taken the tadpoles with it.
I thought I might find one or two tadpoles wriggling around in the dirt, but there were none.
***
Then today when I went back I found the puddle again. Even bigger than before.
But the tadpoles were nowhere in sight.
I have enough trouble trying to figure out where my puddle goes when it leaves…
But where in the world would a puddle take tadpoles?

Bongo maybe the tadpoles took the puddle somewhere you can’t find them 🙂

Little Binky, I hadn’t thought of that. I’m so used to my puddle disappearing that I didn’t even think that the tadpoles might have taken it this time. I guess the puddle didn’t want to go wherever it was taken because it came back.

Do you think the tadpoles carried the puddle off?

Karen and Molly, I’m thinking those tadpoles did carry that puddle off but it didn’t really want to go. That’s why it showed up again the next day – without the tadpoles.

Do you think those tadpoles were holding your puddle hostage and it somehow managed to escape? I can tell you though that the way this puddle is growing, next time you’ll find fish in it!
🙂

Marina, we just had more rain – and thunder (yuck!). Maybe I’d better head out to my puddle and see if any fish dropped into it with the rain.

I wish the tadpoles came to my house. I would put them in my bed and lick them. They seem sweet.
Love and licks,

Cupcake, they were kind of tickly on my toes. This is the first time I’ve ever seen tadpoles on my trails and I’ve never even seen a frog there. Just lizards.

Alex, Trish, and Penny, it’s really great having my puddle back. I didn’t realize how much I’d missed it. And those tadpoles couldn’t even manage to take it away again.

*gasps* OMD! Now I’m very worried of those tadpoles who might be washed away to somewhere….
I hope they are fine in somewhere else…me and my mom are not fond of tadpoles though….
Anyway I’m glad your puddle has back!!! Mysterious puddles make them look more atractive, don’t they? 🙂

Kevin, it’s always exciting when my puddle decides to come back. I’m kind of glad those tadpoles didn’t come back with it though. They were tickling my feet.

I think those tadpoles are involved into some excavation process. During they work, sometimes they discover unrevealed underground lakes.

Kolytyi, maybe my puddle disappears into that underground lake sometimes – and then the lake gets tired of it and spits it back out. It must have liked the tadpoles though.

Dalton, I’m always confused by my puddle’s behavior, but now that the tadpoles have been added to the picture it truly is massively confusing.

Collies, what was even stranger was that the tadpoles showed up again a few days later – and now they’re little toadies.
