Something tells me it’s girlfriend looking season.
I haven’t seen any of my girlfriends in a long time.
I wonder if any of them are out here.
But I’m not the only one looking for a girlfriend.
At least we won’t be competing with each other.
I don’t think my kind of girls will care about that guy – and vice versa.
.
Normally the quail around here hang out on the ground hiding under the bushes.
But this time of year some of the male quails (did I just make a rhyme?) hang out in trees and make a loud calling sound.
I guess they think they’ll attract the girls that way.
I’m not sure what a girl would see in that, but to each her own.
Maybe they don’t get any girls because sometimes they’re hanging out in trees like this way into the summer.
But this one might be a little smarter than most.
He’s staying closer to the ground – unlike some who get in the top of a tall tree.
And now I know he’s figured it out.
He’s finally looking down at where the girls are hanging out.
Maybe I could learn something from him.
I’ve got to go figure out where my girlfriends have gone.

Hmmm, I think barking in a rich bass-baritone would be an irresistible sex appeal!

WOW nice quail pictures. It must be quail day or something – we heard one this morning. (and stuck a picture in today’s post, too) The German seems to have taught Molly to appreciate birds’ songs – she’ll sit and listen to them without charging them now.
MAybe the girl friends are out getting new collars for spring?

Karen, birds are hardly worth charging because they’re too hard to catch. I guess it really must be quail day though. We have lots of them on my trails but mostly they’re hiding in the bushes where you can’t take pictures of them.

Maybe you should climb the tree to have a better look for the girls. Or to chase the quail. Either way, it’s not a wasted trip up.

Cupcake, I’m still waiting for Scratchy to give me tree climbing lessons. He’s just so uncooperative.

Perhaps you could catch the quail, very gently mind, and bring it to a possible girlfriend? It would be like bringing her a songbird of her very own! Whee wouldn’t mind a little bird – big scary piggy-eating birds are a big no-no though!

You are so observant, Bongo! However, you don’t have to look for a girlfriend… one is on her way right now! She carries fish too!!!! 😆

I wonder if female quail has the same color as male quail on their feathers? You have many girl friends Bongo, so there will be a long queue to visit you soon! 🙂

Kevin, the females aren’t quite as colorful as the males. They’re mostly gray and brown. And I did find one of my girlfriends that I hadn’t seen for a long time. Woo woo!
