To the Dogs

Jezabel and Ahab Meeting Elijah in Naboth's Vi...

My person told me that not all the people in the Bible were good. I didn’t believe her so she started telling me a story about an evil queen named Jezebel. Before I sat down ready to listen I asked her if there were any animals in the story. She said there were – dogs actually – but she said I probably didn’t want to hear about it. She said it was very sad.

I said I’d listen and decide for myself so my person started telling me the story. She said Jezebel was married to King Ahab, the king of Israel, and they were both very bad. Jezebel worshiped Baal instead of the one true God and she got King Ahab to worship Baal too.

I wasn’t sure if worshipping Baal was important, but then my person said Jezebel killed all the prophets of God that she could find. That was pretty bad.

Well one day King Ahab became upset because he wanted to buy a vineyard and the man who owned it wouldn’t sell it to him. Jezebel knew how to take care of that. She had that vineyard owner killed and then told King Ahab to go get the vineyard – it belonged to him now.

I guess it was sad about that vineyard owner, but I started getting really angry at that mean old Queen Jezebel. I told my person maybe she should stop because I felt some growls about to erupt.

My person said there was just a little bit more because when King Ahab went to that vineyard Elijah showed up. Ahab and Elijah didn’t get along very well but Jezebel really hated Elijah and wanted to kill him. It sounds like she wanted to kill everybody. Elijah was a prophet of the Lord and he told King Ahab Jezebel would get her fair share. He said that dogs would devour her.

My person said that that is what eventually happened. I am so bummed. Not about Jezebel. She deserved it and my growls are calming down now. But those poor dogs. They must have been really hungry. Didn’t they have any good pet stores in those days? Someone could have made a lot of money by opening up a pet store so people could buy their dogs some good food and tasty treats.

Bongo, I just love the way you and your person tell these Bible stories. Can we hear about David and Bathsheba? It would be a good lead in for your bath.

Thanks Sandra. I mostly like to listen to the Bible stories with animals in them, but my person said there is a lamb connected with that story.

    Bongo,
I love the Bible stories and those dogs who chewed her up were truly doing their humans a favor! It is nice to see other dogs on the net, who like my collies, like Bible stories. God Bless You Bongo, your family and may you never have to eat a Jezebel for I think those dogs probably got a upset stomach for she was so bad! LOL Great story, keep up the great work!!! 🙂

How come we had to be the bad guys? Can’t humans deal with their own bad people?

Rumpy, my person said she left out part of the story. It was humans who threw Jezebel out the window in the first place. Us dogs just did the clean up.

Bongo I think your a very smart fellow. Maybe the humans were feeding good quality fresh foods to their faithful dogs. As for Jezebel, well, “she had it com’in”

Bark’n About, you might be right about the fresh foods. I bet those dogs that got Jezebel were strays. I don’t think they had safe houses for homeless dogs back then.

Hi Bongo – thanks for sharing this story. All doggies need a good all round education and I have decided that you are now my Bible story teacher, much better than chewing that big book on my own 🙂

Thanks Nancy – Bongo has been sharing a different Bible story every Sunday, although I have to find stories with animals in them or he won’t listen. If you click on the Dogology tab you can find all the Bible stories he’s shared.

Hey bongo, I like how you write and even though I come from a different faith (Islam) I am always interested in knowing what the Bible says. I tried reading the Bible once, but I couldnt make head or tail of it.. bec it was written in a way that wasnt too user friendly. I am looking forward to reading more of your stories. Much love. You are so cute.

Samaahmad, I’m glad you enjoyed the Bible story. There are stories about a lot of the same people in both the Bible and the Quran. My person loves teaching people about the Bible and says she would be glad to answer any questions you have. You made me blush when you said I’m cute. Love to you.

yeah, the Bible and Quran have similar stories. And the beliefs are similar too. I feel what really matters at the end of the day is the person you are… and I think we would be judged on the basis of how we treated others. Could you tell me more animal stories from the Bible?

Samaahmad, I’m working on another animal Bible story for tomorrow. I’m trying to post one every Sunday. By the time it’s posted it’s probably the very end of your Sunday.
