Swimming Again

27 Feb

Bongo in the 4RunnerThis morning we got into the 4Runner and I wasn’t sure where we were going, but last time we got in it we had lots of fun, so I was excited. We drove for awhile and then we stopped. No long trip on bumpy roads. I guess we weren’t headed for that fun place we went to last time. We got out of the 4Runner and guess who I found there. My little friend who was at my house the other day. Maybe I can go on the trails with him again. And my little friend’s parents were there too. We were in a parking lot, but that was okay because I was with friends. But then my person walked away. Was she deserting me? Oh man, I was worried. Oh here she comes. No problem person. I knew you were coming back.

We got back in the 4Runner and went for a ways on some bumpy roads. And then we got out again. Hey, I know this place. My swimming hole is down there. Let’s go.

Bongo Wrapped Around a Post

I got so excited I wrapped myself around a post.

First Water on the Trail

There’s a swimming hole here. What do you mean that’s not the one?

Bongo Carrying a Log

I’ve got a stick. Could somebody throw it for me?

People Crossing the Creek

I’m not sure why you’re making such a big deal about crossing the creek.

Bongo Crossing the Creek

See, it’s easy.

Swimming Hole

Yay. We finally made it to my swimming hole.

Bongo Shaking Off

Just a little shake. Anybody else wet?

Bongo and Another Dog

I met a few dogs, but I didn’t really care. I’d gone after my younger person. He was cutting a new stick for me.

Bongo with a Stick in his Mouth

Come on person. Throw the stick for me.

Bongo Going After a Big Log

Everybody started eating lunch and they wouldn’t throw sticks for me anymore. I didn’t care about eating. I only wanted to fetch sticks. I guess I’ll have to get my own stick.

Little Friend, Bongo, and a Stick

My Little Friend couldn’t throw the sticks very far, but at least he tried.

Little Friend and Bongo on the Trail

I’m not ready to head back yet.

Bongo Getting One More Swim

Yippee! They let me go in for one last swim.

Bongo, this is my favorite post of yours – ever! I love it, from the picture of you sitting in the 4Runner, to the picture of you holding the stick and waiting for someone to throw it, to the picture of you in your swimming hole… pure joy!

I miss my dogs, but we’re going home in one week, so soon I’ll be able to throw sticks for them, too!

Thanks for making me smile today 🙂

Mom, glad you liked this post. It was a really fun day. And so happy for you – and your dogs – that you will get to throw sticks again for them soon.

What a great story. And what a pretty place to take dogs. I would love to have a swim there; especially on a day like today where its 34C (98F).

      February 28, 2012 at 10:46 am

Thanks Charlie. It was a perfect day – warm but not hot, but none of the people would go in the water. They complained it was still too cold. Today we have snow. It will be a few months before we have temperatures like yours. I’ll for sure have to get my people to take me there again then.

Susie, I don’t dig very often, but I sure think fetching sticks out of the water is fun – and I’ll take the bacon any day.

Thanks for sharing your adventure Bongo! You have a great swimming hole! Are there any snakes? Just wondering. Snakes, bleh! I’m sure you can take them out and wish you could take them out of this planet. Just the poisonous ones. 🙂

    • Bongo

      February 29, 2012 at 11:00 am

Sunshine, my person says she’s seen snakes there – when they camped further down the trail years ago – but I haven’t seen one. She says there are rattle snakes which are poisonous but they only bite in self defense – so unless someone accidentally steps on one or I start harassing one we’re pretty safe.

Oh, that looks like so much fun! My dog Maya would have loved to go with you Bongo. The nearest “decent” swimming hole we have where dogs can run off leash is 40 minutes away so we don’t get to go there very often.

    • Bongo

      February 29, 2012 at 11:03 am

Dawn, we have the same problem here. This swimming hole is an hour’s drive and a hike – but it sure is fun. Maya’s welcome to come any time.

      • Dawn

        February 29, 2012 at 11:14 am

I’d love to. But by the look of the landscape, I’d say you’re pretty far away. :0( We’re in Kansas. We have Clinton lake nearby but I don’t like the place for swimming where a dog can be off leash. It has some dangerous drops. Plus, they sometimes let the dam open which causes dangerous rushing water. When I want to take her swimming, I usually take her to the dog park in Shawnee Mission Park.

      • Bongo

        February 29, 2012 at 11:18 am

Dawn, that’s pretty cool having swimming in a dog park. We’re in Northern Arizona. The place we went is far enough from any towns that there are no leash laws and lots of people hike there with their dogs.

      • Dawn

        February 29, 2012 at 11:30 am

Yes, the dog park at Shawnee Mission is pretty awesome. If we could add agility equipment in the park it would be perfect! I would have the calmest Labrador in the world after she’s done with all that. :0)

Arizona is really beautiful. I had a dog named Smokey years ago and just him and I went to visit. There were places in Sedona where we had gone and he could be off leash. And there were lots of great swimming holes too. Maybe someday I can take Maya.

      • Bongo

        February 29, 2012 at 11:42 am

Dawn, Sedona is where we live. We have lots of posts from the trails near our house. There is a leash law now although many people don’t pay attention. My person makes me stay on a leash because she says I have a habit of running off. She doesn’t take me to the creek here because you have to pay to park at all the best swimming holes and we have our trails so close by.
