You Call That Snow?

01 Mar

Bongo and a dusting of snowI have been waiting almost three months for some snow to play in. That’s how long it’s been since we had some. So I was really excited when my person told me the weather person said we should have snow overnight.

Yippee! Lots of fluffy, slippery white stuff to play in. I don’t even care if it’s cold. It’s so much fun. My favorite thing to do is drag my Frisbee around in it. It slides so much better in snow than it does in the dirt.

Well, this morning my person got up and let me outside, and what did I see? My yucca plants looked whiter. There was a little snow on the stairs. But on the ground – nothing, nada, kaput.

Somebody needs to talk to that weather person. How am I supposed to play in the snow if there’s none on the ground? This doesn’t even make sense. What good is snow if you can’t play in it? Why would it even bother coming if it’s not going to stick around and get deep?

Weather person, you’re just not doing your job. Next time you send snow you’ve got to send more of it. And if you don’t do that, I’m going to ask for a new weather person.

But Bongo, since you are such a clever dog, can’t you predict the weather yourself?

Sweet Kitten, I still get my hopes up when the weather person predicts snow – even if I don’t see it in the air.

ok, maybe your person won’t like this suggestion but, maybe your person could take you to a mountain with snow and let you play… It don’t need to be the Himalayas! You’d all have great fun then. [as long as your persons leg is ok with it!]

Marina, that’s a great idea. Now I just have to convince my person. We don’t even have to go far – only about an hour drive to Flagstaff and if their snow is gone it’s only a little further to go up the mountain. Hey person – let’s go! By the way, my person thanks you for her concern about her leg. She says it’s better now.

Snow? I think your person painted the garden white Bongo 🙂

Bassa, you mean I didn’t have any snow? And I thought I at least had a little. My person must be conspiring with the weather person – or maybe she is the weather person in disguise.

LOL..we love snow too Bongo, it is in short supply in a lot of places. 😦

Geraldine, we don’t get much snow here – but we usually get more than we’ve had this year.

Cee, my person’s brother lives near Portland. I wonder if he got any. Maybe I could go play in his snow.

    Bongo,

We hope you get some more snow. We wish you could come play in our Northeast yard because we got snow that you can really bury your paws in. Winter is not over yet. Hopefully, a big storm is on the way.

Bongo..you are truly wonderful..I love the idea of asking for a new weather person…I want one that says that the sun is going to shine.

You can have some of our snow for your garden..you would lose your frisbee in that..I will put some in a paper bag and send it to you

xxxxxx lots of love and to Scratchy as well

Patreciau, I’ll be waiting for that bag full of snow. I don’t think Scratchy will want to play with it so I won’t even have to share.

Cupcake, I guess that weather person never said how much snow, but I think that person needs to be trained better to tell us there will be lots of snow and then make it happen.

Poor Bongo. I think now that Spring has arrived there probably won’t be any major snow falls this season. He might have to find something else to do with that frisbee.

I don’t get along with the weather person either. They always tell me the wrong weather, and I’m always dressed incorrectly for the day! This is a big deal to people, because unlike cute doggies… we don’t have a coat of fur all the time!

    • Bongo

      March 1, 2012 at 9:48 pm

Viciously Sweet, I’m going to have a talk with that weather person for you and give that person what for. Weather people really have to be more considerate of us.

We had snow for a couple of days (maybe more coming?)…enough that our backyard is okay to play in, though not truly DEEP.

Which is why it’s a mystery to me how we lost our Kong frisbee in it tonight, just 10 minutes into play. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that Elka does not catch the Kong Flyer in the air, but rather waits for it to land, runs, and jumps on it with her front feet, skating it through the snow? ^^

    • Bongo

      March 1, 2012 at 11:05 pm

Jen, that’s my absolutely favorite thing to do in the snow – skate my Frisbee around. Elka and I would have fun playing in the snow together.

      • Jen

        March 1, 2012 at 11:07 pm

I think you would! Skating her Frisbee and running in big circles are Elka’s two favorite play things to do in the snow. Of course, running in big circles is always fun!

Never trust the weather person, Bongo, they’re mostly wrong. Maby they’re right, but you can’t do anything against nature 😉

Angels Whisper, you mean even if we got a new weather person the weather might be wrong? Oh no, what’s this world coming to?

Oops! I’m sorry Bongo…you look very disappointed on the pic. We have had much more snow than usual here because it is much colder this winter. You should have come with fthe risbee, Bongo! 🙂

      March 2, 2012 at 11:07 am

Kevin, I think the weather is all messed up this year. It’s been much milder than usual all over the States and much colder where you are. Guess I’ll have to bring my Frisbee and come play with you in your snow for awhile.

Awww, shucks, Bongo! They didn’t tell you?? The snow machine broke down right before you came outside so yah, it was the best the snow people could do under such unfortunate situation. I think they are going to get the super, new improved model for next year… 🙂

    • Bongo

      March 2, 2012 at 11:08 am

Sunshine, I can’t wait for that new super improved model of snow machine. But I have to wait all the way until next year?

      • Sunshine

        March 2, 2012 at 11:24 pm

Yep, Bongo. I think Spring is coming in real soon. Hey, maybe they have an egg machine that hides eggs! Maybe they can bring it out earlier to test it before Easter. You can be the taste tester . . . hehe!

      • Bongo

        March 2, 2012 at 11:30 pm

Sunshine, my person would love that egg hiding machine since she has to hide the eggs for her church’s Easter egg hunt. And I would love to check it out for her. She says one year they had the egg hunt at a property where the owners had four golden retrievers. They hid the eggs early and left for awhile. When the kids came for the egg hunt there was nothing left inside the eggs. Wish I had been there with those golden retrievers.

Yay snow! We actually got some finally – and sorry to say, got lots more than you did. Maybe you’ll have better luck next year because, really, it’s time for spring now, isn’t it? 🙂

Hey, just for fun, you’ve been “tagged”. If you want to play, swing by http://www.bringingupbella.com/2012/03/tag-im-it.html for the details. 🙂

Hey Bongo, Jet here. As I share a great deal, I’m confused about that white stuff. I’m sorry you don’t have enough to play in, though… I’m a little scared of Frisbees, since a human hit me in the head with one really hard (by accident.)

    • Bongo

      March 2, 2012 at 8:23 pm

Jet, that would be scary being hit in the head with a Frisbee. Nothing like that has ever happened to me. I guess you don’t get any snow where you live. You’ll have to stop by and play in mine sometime – if I ever get any.

      • heyitsjethere

        March 2, 2012 at 9:04 pm

Hey Bongo, Jet here. See this human was rotating his arm back to gain power to throw the frisbee and my head was right there… he didn’t see me…

Nope, is that what they call the white stuff? I live in South Florida, the tropics, which can tax a guy like me with a black fur coat.

      • Bongo

        March 2, 2012 at 10:45 pm

Jet, I bet that guy was sure startled when your head got in the way of his frisbee.

I bet it is hard with a black fur coat in South Florida. It gets pretty hot here in Northern Arizona in the summer, but everybody says it’s a dry heat. I guess that means it doesn’t feel so hot, but in the summer my person doesn’t usually take me for a walk until the sun is almost down and everything is in shadow.

    Hey Bongo!
My name is Fenris and I was happy to find your blog now that I started my own too! 🙂 I’m from Sweden and am no stranger to playing in the snow, so I am sorry you didn’t get any to play in.
My mom tells me though that we’re moving to Arizona next week, wherever that is (but apparently very far), so I was happy to see that you live there too! She also tells me it’s very hot over there. Maybe you can give me some tips on how to cope with those hot summers? 🙂

    • Bongo

      March 3, 2012 at 11:04 am

Fenris, nice to meet you. I’ll stop by your blog in awhile. You’ll have quite a climate change from Sweden to Arizona although parts of Arizona do get a lot of snow in the winter – except for this winter – it’s been dry. Do you know where in Arizona you’re moving? We live in Sedona. In the summer my person waits until the sun is almost down before she takes me out for walks. In the winter it’s nice any time of day.

        March 8, 2012 at 10:20 pm

My mom says it’s going to be very hot here in Phoenix during the summer. It feels like summer now, if you ask me, so this isn’t so bad. You don’t get walks during the whole day? Oh boy, that sounds boring. My mom has talked about shoes to protect my paws from the hot ground during the summer. Do you have those? I hate wearing things – except the collar. But I prefer having that off too.
I think I won’t be getting walks during the day either, in the summertime. I’m not looking forward to that. Luckily I have the pool to keep me sane 🙂

      • Bongo

        March 8, 2012 at 11:16 pm

Fenris, my paws are okay in the summer, but my trails are dirt and I just have to cross one small street to get there. At least you have your pool in the summer. Most people – and dogs- where you are spend their time in the summer either in air conditioned buildings or cars, or in a pool. The rest of the year is really nice though.

        March 9, 2012 at 12:56 pm

My mom was thinking about buying a treadmill for me and herself if we go nuts from being inside all the time. But I think there is no such thing as being in a pool too much so I will probably stay in it all day long 🙂

      • Bongo

        March 9, 2012 at 1:44 pm

Fenris, I’m so jealous that you have a pool. You can use it most of the year and it’s only in the summer that it’s too hot to do anything else outside.

Bongo, your right that much snow is useless, we can’t run and slide and dig in that. The ground still looks like mud and when we dig in mud and come in we get in trouble. We had a little snow like that recently. Mom took a picture just to prove it was there because it was GONE by noon. That is really no good at all!!!

    • Bongo

      March 5, 2012 at 4:20 pm

I’m glad you understand my plight. It would be better to have no snow at all than to have such a small amount that it’s useless.
