How to Walk in Snow

20 Mar

Bongo with a Frisbee in the SnowI don’t believe it! My person let me outside Sunday morning and there was snow everywhere. And not just a little bit of that white stuff. There was bunches. Perfect for dragging my Frisbee through. It slides really well in snow. This new Frisbee I have slides so well that sometimes it slips away from me and I have to find it.

Bongo in the Snow

If you look really close you can see my Frisbee flying behind me.

After I’d had enough of the Frisbee games, I decided it was time to take my person for a walk. I’m not sure taking my person for a walk in the snow was such a good idea though.

She kept making me stop so she could take pictures, and even when she wasn’t taking pictures she wouldn’t go fast enough.

Bongo in the trail in the snow

Hurry up, person.

Cactus in Snow

Cactus Covered in Snow

Snow on the Trails

Prickly Pear in Snow

Frozen Pricklers

I kept finding all kinds of really great smells in the bushes and every time I tried to go find where the smell came from my person yanked me back to the trails. Besides, every time she took a step her feet made such a loud crunching sound in the snow that all the critters probably heard her coming and ran for it.

Bongo Sniffing in Snow

Bongo at the Stream

I didn't know there was a stream here.

Then, guess what? I found a dead mouse sitting right on top of the snow. I picked it up and started to chomp on it. And you know what my person did. She made me drop it. I tried to ignore her but she wouldn’t give up. I figured if I dropped it for a minute she’d be happy and I could go pick it up again. But no. She wouldn’t let me get back near it. I can’t figure out why she would want to waste a good tasty morsel like that.

Bongo and Mouse in the Snow

I’d had about enough after that. I took my person home. And if she keeps spoiling my fun in the snow I’m leaving her home next time.

Cool! So much snow, Bongo! Here, we can finally see the first signs of spring!

Sweet Kitten, I think our seasons are reversed this year. We’ve been having springlike weather most of the winter.

Bongo we’re so happy you finally got some snow! We live in Massachusetts and haven’t gotten a lot of snow in a while. Our humans said it is now Spring so there won’t be anymore snow this year. This makes us a bit sad. We love rolling around in the snow. It clumps on our fur and looks like we are wearing snow jewels.

We enjoyed the photos of you playing in the snow! What fun!

Bella and DiDi, I’m so happy to finally get some snow this year. My person was surprised because we rarely get any amount of snow this late in the year.

The snow is beautiful. I thought you jumped around in snow instead of walking in it.

Sandra, jump, walk, run – I like doing all kinds of things in the snow. My person only wants to walk though.

Hard to believe! We got rid of the last of our snow about a week ago & have been in some kind of record breaking March heat wave in the Boston area. Thursday is supposed to be 85! It’s time to find Lola another little swimming pool (unfortunately we somehow go through a couple/year)

Diane, we’ve had springlike weather all winter – so we’re finally getting our winter. The weather has been strange this year.

we had a snowstorm last night, woohoo! I’m glad I read your advice here Bongo. I thought spring was here a couple of days ago but not yet eh? 🙂

    Ched sends a headbonk!

Geraldine, maybe Ched and I could play in the snow together. Scratchy doesn’t want to come out with me.

Too bad you cound’nt have that mouse…was probably stale anyway…LOL.
We also had a mild winter here on Long Island NY, only had snow once and then it melted in 2 days.
I do have to say…I LOVE reading about your daily adventures in Arizona.
you have the BEST doggy blog around.

Thanks Penny. I love playing in the snow. We had springlike weather all winter, so now that it’s spring we get our winter weather. Next time I find a mouse though, I’m going to have to figure a way to sneak it so my person doesn’t notice.

Bassetmomma, the snow is great. So was the mousicle – until my person made me drop it. I like that name for it.

Dead mouse! Is it as yummy (NOT) as it sounds? I never tried one. I’m sticking to the yumminess of goose poop. M-m-m-m.

You are SO lucky taking a snow walk. That’s the best!

    Love and licks,

Cupcake, I really am lucky to get to walk in the snow. I didn’t get to taste that mouse much though – but it smelled good. I’ve never tried goose poop. The geese don’t come around here.

Snoopy, we don’t get much snow here but I sure love it when we do. I found a little snowman that somebody else built.

Nothing like a roll in the snow, according to my Rosie. Love the pics, especially the snow-covered cactus 🙂

      March 20, 2012 at 8:49 pm

Thanks Winsomebella. I usually don’t roll in the snow, but I sure love playing in it. My person says it just seems ironic to have cactus covered in snow.

The snow looks really fun! I’ve never seen snow but reminds me of the beach. My frisbee slides into the sand and I have to dig it out! And what’s with the Mom’s! My Mom doesn’t let me run amuck on my walks either…even if there are really good smells and crabs to chase.

      March 21, 2012 at 12:08 am

Willow, I’ve never been to a sandy beach. It sounds like as much fun as snow – and even better if you get to go swimming.

Angels Whisper, it really is special here when it snows. About that mouse – if it wasn’t dead before, it sure was when I got through with it.

OMD! Snow in March!!! What a surprise! Besides, I’ve never seen you wearing a jacket, Bongo! So cute! Is it for keeping you warm? I love seeing the contrast of cactus and snow! 🙂

Kevin, that jacket is my Anxiety Vest. We had thunder the first night that it snowed, so my person put it on me.

    I love the photos! It’s so wintery…

Bongo, I hope whe you say you’re leaving your person behind if she doesn’t behave herself that you don’t mean you’re going to go back to your old escape artist self??!

    • Bongo

      March 21, 2012 at 11:11 am

Flo, I keep thinking of escaping and running off to play, but my person knows all my tricks so I have a really hard time doing it any more.

Bongo, Is it unusual where you live to get that much snow? I’m glad your person didn’t allow you to eat that mouse. Might be tasty, but it also might not sit well with you later. Great photos!

    • Bongo

      March 21, 2012 at 11:15 am

Thanks Monica. My person says that when she first moved here over 30 years ago it was normal to get about one snow like that each winter and a few lesser snowfalls – but for the past 20 or so years there hasn’t been much snow at all. It’s really rare to get this much snow this late in the year. My person told me the same thing about that mouse. I just don’t get it.

But you should never eat a mouse that is just lying around… it’s just not right.

Bongo, it looks like you got to walk through some of the snow clouds, too. Wow, that is just so beautiful up there. You think that little mouse froze to death? I’m glad your person kept you from eating it. She has better food for you at home. There’s an owl somewhere that could probably benefit from having the mouse for its meal.

    • Bongo

      March 21, 2012 at 10:30 pm

Lindy, I think that mouse probably did freeze. I hope an owl found a tasty meal since I didn’t get to.

We are finally back home and got some sleep. Wow Bongo look at all that snow in the middle of March, that looks like a lot o makes up for some you didn’t get. It looks so really beautiful we have never seen snow on the trails or mountains before. Humans are never fast enough in the snow, but you are so lucky to get some to play in. Hope you enjoy and that’s its still here tomorow 🙂

Lexie and Mica, I’m glad you got some sleep. I sleep for about three days after I’ve been at the dog hotel. I think we got all of our snow for the winter in one day.

Hey Bongo, Jet here. Wow, that white stuff looks cool, I don’t really understand what it is because I live in the tropics. You know persons, they LOVE their cameras! Your trail looks beautiful in the snow according to Mom. She said Yuk about the mouse, I’m with you.

Hey Jet, we don’t get snow very often here, but it’s sure fun when we do have it. I just wish my person would put her camera down and enjoy it more.

Bongo, you should leave your person behind next time. My mom also walks way too slow when it’s snow. I mean, who “walks” in snow when you can run! 😀
I am jealous about all the snow. We only had rain 😦

Fenris, I think I’d have more fun if I left my person behind, but she knows all my escaping tricks and I have a hard time getting out the door without her.
