Normally when I go out on my trails I hear lots of birds chirping or making whatever birdie sound they feel like making. And if I look up into the trees I can usually see birds flitting around in there.
But not today. The birds were quiet, but it certainly wasn’t quiet on my trails.
There was howling, and whistling, and blowing, and my ears got pressed down tight to my head. The clouds overhead were moving so fast I’m surprised there were any left in the sky.
I finally heard one bird overhead, but it went by so fast that I think the wind had grabbed it and was taking it wherever it is that wind goes.
It must have taken all the other birds already.
I was determined that the wind wasn’t going to take me away, so I led my person down into the wash where the wind had trouble getting to us.
And guess what. Some of the birds had the same idea. At least the ones that the wind hadn’t grabbed and taken away yet.
Birds were chirping down in that wash, and a raven was even toughing it out overhead.
Guess I know where I’m heading if I ever want to go bird hunting on a windy day.

Hope those birds hold on tight. Wind sounds pretty strong.

Karen, the wind has calmed down now. I think a few birds escaped its clutches.

You’re a smart dog Bongo 🙂

Thanks Jaz. There are lots of quail in that wash. Usually they run from me, but some windy day…

I have a feeling your leash had to be held extra tight when you saw all those birds hanging out at ground level.
February 15, 2013 at 4:49 pm
Will and Eko, I keep trying to get my person to let go of my leash but I haven’t been able to convince her.

Those birds probably got blown elsewhere for the time being. We scream at the wind cause it moves things and scares us

Benny & Lily, wind can be pretty scary. At least it doesn’t pick us up and blow us away.

Wind can be scary. It’s lucky you found a safe place, where you could walk, and the birds could hang out. Sometimes in the wind, my ears fly around like kites.
Love and licks,

Cupcake, wind sure does strange things sometimes. At least it’s died down here now.

Bongo! Chasing birds is great fun. I love watching them fly…. especially all the geese when they migrate. I am working on a ack-ack gun so I can make hunting easier! -Ginger 🙂

Great idea Ginger. We don’t have any geese here, but there sure are lots of quail. They always start running before I even get close to them.

Them’s some pretty smart birds! I bet they followed you!
February 15, 2013 at 8:40 pm
Rumpy, I’m surprised some of those birds didn’t grab on to me – to keep from blowin’ in the wind.
February 16, 2013 at 2:24 am
Oh, winds… we’ve had so many strong winds and rains this year, I’m amazed we’re still holding!
Oh, well… You be careful – maybe wear some weights to keep you grounded [although I know you’re a very strong dog!]
Did I hear you say something about “bird hunting”? You probably meant, playing huh?!!!
I hope the winds have calmed…
February 16, 2013 at 1:06 pm
Marina, of course that’s what I meant. I’d only play with those birds. Really. Our winds have calmed down. We have really nice weather today. I hope you’re having good weather too.
February 17, 2013 at 2:45 am
…still raining! Your friend is in her thundershirt, hiding somewhere! Maybe if you united forces you could give those thunders what for, once and for all!!!
February 17, 2013 at 1:10 pm
Marina, anything that will give thunder what for I’m up for.
February 16, 2013 at 6:14 am
Today, it’s so windy here too, so we didn’t hear any birds chattering either. You sounds lucky to find the wash to hide from the wind, Bongo! I hope you could “PLAY” with those birds next time the wind is strong! 🙂
February 16, 2013 at 1:07 pm
Kevin, I’m trying to figure out how to get those birds to play with me. Every time I show up they leave. I don’t think they like me.

Good thinking Bongo!

Bark and Chatter, that wash is always a great place to go. Lots of good smells and lots of birds. I might just head back there again today – even though the wind is gone now.

Bongo, were they all blown away?
February 17, 2013 at 1:12 pm
Angel’s Whisper and Little Binky, those birds came back when the wind stopped so they must have not gotten blown too far away.
