West Fork

14 May

Bongo with his nose out the car windowOver the weekend I got in the car with my people and we started going somewhere I’ve never been before. My people said it was a place called Oak Creek Canyon. All I know is that the smells there were a lot different than the smells on my trails.

I sure hope this isn’t a new route to the dog hotel.

The car stopped and when I got out I didn’t see a dog hotel anywhere in sight.

Whew! I can relax now.

We walked a little ways and then I found it. It’s a trail sign and it says West Fork.

Bongo and a trail sign

This is where I told my people to go. My friend Lola and her person Shary said it’s the best trail ever, and my people have never taken me here before. That’s okay, because now I can take them here.

Hey, check this out! It’s a bridge – and there’s water down there.

Bongo and his younger person walking across a bridge

Now I’ve got to figure out how to get to that water.

Bongo and his younger person walking on a trail

This trail is nice, but I’ve seen lots of little trails that lead to the water. How come we’re not taking one of them?

Bongo in a narrow stream of water

Finally! The water!

Hey, this is like a Slip N Slide.

Bongo going downstream

Here I go!

Bongo in the water

You want to do what?

I just got here and I’m not coming out.

***

My people finally convinced me that there were more trails and more water to swim in and they were right.

Red cliff among trees

Distant cliff

Red cliff hiding behind trees

Creek, red cliff, and trees

My person even found flowers to take pictures of.

White Flower

I think my person is a flower magnet.

***

Finally! I got to go swimming again.

Bongo all wet

I’m just getting out for a minute.

Bongo looking away from the creek

You want to go where?

I don’t think so. I’m not done swimming yet.

***

I was forced to leave the water and head back to the car, but I’ve got a plan.

Bongo with his leash tangled around the sign post

See if my people can get me to leave this place now.

Marina, they just untangled me and made me get in the car. My person says she was afraid I’d keep swimming until I was exhausted. I’m not sure what’s wrong with that. It was so much fun.

What a fun and awesome trail to visit. I think you may need to spin around that sign a few more times if you want to stay. Swimming looks like fun. I have never tried it, but I stepped in a puddle once. It scared me.

    Love and licks,

Cupcake, swimming is great fun. It’s one of my favorite things to do. But I think you’re right about spinning around that sign a few more times. My people untangled me before I had a chance to do that and made me get in the car.

What a brilliant plan, and it looked like you had SO much fun!! I wish the trails round me where as warm as the trails around you

      May 15, 2013 at 10:18 pm

Dalton, my trails are almost starting to get too hot, but the West Fork trail is covered in shade so the temperature was perfect.

Dalton, it’s a deal. We haven’t had rain here in a long time. I don’t think I want any snow though until next winter.

Okie dokey so what’s the plan?!? I bet it’s a good one! What a beautiful place! If that was anywhere near us we’d practically live there! Just stunning!!!

Max, it was such a great place but my plan didn’t work. I wrapped my leash around the sign post but my people worked together and got me undone. I’ll have to work faster next time.

How could you take that water home, to your trails? You are definitely a water dog with excellent swimming skills!

Kolytyi, I absolutely love swimming. It’s one of my favorite things to do. I’ve got to figure out how to fill my trails with swimming holes.

Phew!! I’m glad that it was NOT Dog Hotel where you got to, Bongo! 🙂
OMD! What a beautiful and breathtaking place that West Fork is!!! Not only me but also my mom would love to visit there!!! It looks like one of the healing places!
And the flower is amazing! How far from where you live, Bongo? Are there some tourists on the trails, too?

    • Bongo

      May 15, 2013 at 10:27 pm

Kevin, I’m sure glad it wasn’t the dog hotel too. West Fork is one of the better known trails in my area. It’s about a half hour drive from my house. There were lots of people and dogs on the trail and many of them were probably tourists. Lots of people from Flagstaff go there. It’s about halfway between Flagstaff and Sedona, and people drive up from Phoenix to visit there too. Some of the flowers and plants were different than the ones on my trails because it’s higher in elevation there.

Oh Bongo…You always make me smile 🙂 You should convince your people to give you a watery place to play in at home! That way you could have lots of fun whenever you want, and if they try and make you get out of the water, you just shake all that water on them and run back! Glad that you got to go play outside and that it wasn’t the Dog Hotel that they were taking you to 🙂 Lots of loves from Miss Xeva and I!

Love of a Dog, I’m trying to figure out how to turn my backyard into a swimming hole. But I sure had fun swimming at West Fork. And getting everybody wet when I shake myself off is always fun.
