Walking’s not an Option

23 Jul

Bongo looking at the viewLately I’ve been wanting to go on a different trail – it’s a little longer than the way we usually go on my trails.

But my person always says she’s too busy, or it’s too hot, or she comes up with any number of excuses.

Today it was cloudy and cooler, and my person didn’t have bunches of stuff to do, so we got to go on that trail.

We were having a great time – until I heard it.

Thunder!

Over there – and that way too!

We were surrounded!

Person, why did you want to go on this trail? We could have been almost home by now.

There was only one direction to go – and my person wouldn’t let me go that way.

Okay, fine. Then we’re not going at all.

Bongo refusing to move

It became a game of tug of war.

Until my collar came off.

Then my person did something really strange.

She walked to the end of my her leash, sat on the ground, and started taking pictures of me.

Bongo reluctantly walking

I like the sound her camera makes. Eventually I walked to where she sat.

Then she moved back to the end of her leash, and made me walk to her again.

Then she did it all over again.

My person thinks I’m afraid of this thunder, but I’ve been thinking. Sometimes I complain too much when she stops all the time to take pictures. I think I’ll be nice to her today and let her take all the pictures she wants.

And just to prove I was doing it to be nice to her, when we got past the part with all the best scenery, I started walking with her again.

Awwwwww, Bongo, what a sweet doggy you are!!!! I bet your person got lots of slobbery kisses, didn’t she? She deserved it for taking such beautiful pictures of you and your surroundings.

Thanks Marina. I didn’t give my person any kisses though, ’cause I don’t give kisses when it’s thundering. But I got real close to her.

Would not want to be caught on the trails in a storm. You make a pretty picture, but you in a storm would not! Glad you guys made it out.

Will and Eko, we got lucky this time and the storm didn’t get close to us. There’s been a few times the rain has soaked us, but we were usually not far from home.

Benny & Lily, you’ll have to come hiking with me in the fall. There’s no thunder and the weather is perfect.

Thanks Little Binky. Too bad you can’t come pose in the pictures with me because tomorrow I’m showing some pictures of a cat who tried to take my person over when I wasn’t looking. I know you wouldn’t do that.

Ooooh Bongo, I was just having a nice dinner of kibble with chunks of chicken on top & then the thunder snuck up on me. My dinner kind of came flying out & hit the wall but I just had to take cover under the desk. Diane says I’m really adding to the humidity.

Lola, thunder is so horrible, isn’t it? How rude of it to interrupt your dinner. My person left me today and there were some distant rumblies – so I tried to ignore them by keeping busy cleaning out my younger person’s room. I moved a bunch of his stuff into the hallway. I hope he likes how I rearranged his room.

Thunder! Again!? Poor B. You are braver than you think. Staying by your person is always the best plan.

Cupcake, we get thunder almost every day here in July and August. It’s my worst time of the year.

Thanks Alex, Trish, and Penny. I usually don’t like it when my person stops and takes too many pictures – but every once in awhile I guess I can be nice to her.

These pictures are awesome!!!! We can still see Century Plant in one of them! Thank you very much for letting your person taking all the pictures she wants Bongo!!! 🙂

Thanks Kevin. The century plants are done blooming, but many of them still have their seed pods. I guess I’ll have to be good to my person more often and let her take pictures. Today we played trail guide though because we found some lost hikers.

People are so slow to catch on sometimes. You are such a thoughtful dog
(hope the thunder crawls off and hides a while – you’ve had enough!)

Oh, Bongo, you are a fantastic guy! I hope your person grasps that you are the best possible photographic subject! I think this was an illuminating lesson for her!

Kolytyi, I think I learned something. Next time my person tries to drag me away from a good smell I’m going to hold my ground. She can get out her camera and take pictures. I wonder if they have cameras that record smells. That would be awesome!
