My trails seem to be full of mysteries lately.
I’ve been checking for clues everywhere.
So while I was checking for clues on the last mystery, I discovered a new mystery.
A Detective Dog’s work is never done.
I might have to do some modeling and have my person take some new Detective Dog pics before I wear my hat out.
Besides, I always get extra treats when I model.
Okay, back to the mystery.
It’s a Manzanita mystery.
Because baby Manzanita berries always start out green.
And most of the new berries on my trails are coming out green.
They usually get some rosy color later, but when they first appear they’re green.
But I found some berries that just had to be different.
As a matter of fact, even their blossoms were different.
They had pink blossoms.
All the blossoms on the other bushes were white.
And when these berries popped out they weren’t green at all.
They were red.
So I started investigating to find out why these berries, and these only, were different than the rest.
And you know what I discovered when I looked around the other side of the berries?
The berries are red on one side – and green on the other.
These berries are not so different after all.
It’s all a front.

Ohhhh you look handsome in your hat Bongo, (panting) May be the berries are not ripe yet? I do not know unless I sniff something to know if it is edible, I eat almost anything as long as it is sweet.. Or those are just going to be those fluffy things that humans call flowers.. Lick kisses Bongo

Thanks Fredrieka. I’m blushing now. Good thing you can’t see that under all my hair. Those berries are brand new so they aren’t ripe yet, but they usually start out green and then eventually get some rosy color. And they never do get sweet – or soft. But last year my person picked some and made cider out of them.
March 28, 2014 at 11:25 am
Oh then I would eat them… I love apples and we make cider out of apples. yum
March 28, 2014 at 11:28 am
I love apples too, but they’re sweet. The berries aren’t, but they look like little apples. That’s why they’re called manzanita berries. Manzanita is Spanish for apple.

Great Detective Work yet again Bongo. Things are changing so quickly right now because Mother Nature can’t figure out what it wants to do.
/throws a treat for Bongo to catch.
March 28, 2014 at 11:25 am
Kimberly, I guess Mother Nature might be confused. Thanks for the treat. I caught it in my mouth. It was great!

Pigs, maybe those berries will help me with some of my investigations. I bet they see things happening on my trails when I’m not there.
March 28, 2014 at 11:41 am
Are they secretly your off-body eyes and ears?

If they’re not yet I think I’ll make them that.

Bongo I noticed a spot behind your ear.. is that a hotspot? If it is momwithoutpaws makes a paste from instant baby oatmeal.. It heals it and helps it not itch
March 28, 2014 at 4:58 pm
Fredrieka, those are old pictures of me – only the berries are new, but no hotspots. Thanks though.

Thanks Lily & Edward. My person really likes these berries when they start getting rosy. Oh no. That means she’ll be taking lots of pictures then.

Good solve. Those berries look sour. Did you ever taste them?
Love and licks,
March 28, 2014 at 5:00 pm
Cupcake, I’ve never tasted them but my person says they are sour berries.
March 28, 2014 at 5:55 pm
Looks like these berries have minds of their own – doesn’t it?!!! Ah, but I’m sure your figure this one out too! 🙂
March 28, 2014 at 11:20 pm
Marina, I think they might be mutant berries.
March 30, 2014 at 1:04 am
Probably those Manzanita berries are confused which color is much prritier….or they are tired of being green one, so want to some change as a new style! 🙂
March 30, 2014 at 1:12 pm
Kevin, I think that’s it. Those berries are making a fashion statement. I bet next year all the berries will be red.
March 30, 2014 at 2:36 pm
Good play on words there at the end Bongo! And I can’t wait to see more detective hat shots!
March 30, 2014 at 4:25 pm
FireBonnet, I was hoping people would notice the play on words. Thanks. And I’m going to have to get my Detective Dog hat back on and tell my person to get her camera out more more pics.
