Loudmouth

14 May

Bongo in front of the bush with berriesThere are a lot of quail living on my trails, but I don’t see them all that often.

Most of the time they’re hiding in the bushes.

If I didn’t smell them I wouldn’t even know they were there, except that they give themselves away.

When my person and I come anywhere near where they’re hiding they scurry off.

If they’d stayed where they were we’d never see them, but we usually get a glimpse of them before they’ve hidden themselves in some more bushes.

.

.

.

But this time of year there are some lonely male quails who hang out in plain sight and make lots of noise so everybody knows they’re there.

Quail on a fence with pink flowers nearby

This fence is near the beginning of my trails, before the houses end and the wild things begin.

I guess that quail thought it was a good place to look for a girlfriend.

Quail on fence

Posing will get you everywhere.

Believe me, I know.

I hope those girls come by and notice soon.

If that guy finds a girlfriend maybe things will quiet down on my trails.

Quail in a tree

Hey, wait a minute!

That quail decided I was right about my trails being too noisy…

So he moved into the tree in my front yard?

No Mr. Quail, that’s not what I meant.

Does anybody have any earplugs?

What sort of noise do they make.? I think that they must be very stupid birds to sit on a branch of a tree in your garden when there are two cats living there. Maybe he thinjs that you like him and will protect him until he finds a mate,. He is a very fine looking fellow..if I was a lady quail I might give him a whirl!

Patrecia, quail make all kinds of sounds, but when those boy quails are looking for a mate it’s a loud crying kind of sound. But I think that bird knows he doesn’t have to worry about my cats because my person won’t let them go outside. There are a couple neighbor cats who come by, but if I see them I’ll chase them away – just for the fun of it.

Those quail birds are pretty colorful. Plus they look a little like unicorns! Noisy unicorns…

Cupcake, noisy unicorns for sure. The females aren’t as colorful, but they’re still pretty.

Mr. Quail got the wrong message! Now you have to go looking for a girlfriend for him… clever guy! 😉

Marina, I’m not sure if that quail would be interested in any of my girlfriends. Besides, I’m not sure I’d want to share.

Beautiful bird…let’s hope the guy gets a gal and they move somewhere (meanwhile guard your water bowl?)

Karen, if that guy gets a girl he’ll shut up. Most of the quail around here live on my trails, but they do hang around the neighborhood too this time of year.

Fredrieka, they run from bush to bush around here and get under places that I might get stuck.

Bongo, you have lots of girlfriends, so you can teach the male quail how to find gorgeous girlfriend!!! Then he might stop making the noise! 🙂

Kevin, I wonder if girlfriend quails like the same things that girlfriend dogs do.

I hope their love songs are not ear-splitting when they already have found each other but they know also lyrical melodies!

Kolytyi, the quail make all kinds of sounds and after they find each other they quiet down.

Collies, I can’t believe you have to put up with a loudmouth bird right in your house. I guess I shouldn’t complain. But at least cats are good for something.
